One recommendations through the DIS I've also enjoyed The Other Boleyn Girl, The Kite Runner, Water for Elephants, Secret Life of Bees (not my favorite) & many others.

Wally Lamb is a great author. One of my favorite books by him is I Know This Much Is True. I can't remember the name of the other book I read by home, but it was good also. I haven't seen a book written by him in years, however.
I agree - I loved all of these except Bees! The other Wally Lamb book is She's Come Undone (which is partially set in Montpelier Vermont - the same town I work in).

I am reading "Dreams from my father" by Barack Obama.

Oh, and I'm reading Life of Pi right now but I'm struggling through it. It's not hard to understand, it is just boring so far. My cousin really liked it and recommended it to me so I'm trying to get through it!

Just wait until you get to the ending!!!

Stephen Colbert's 'I Am America (And So Can You!)' :thumbsup2

"kitchen confidential" (updated, paperback version) by anthony bourdain

I'm currently reading Strangers In Death by Nora Roberts (writing as J.D. Robb). I've read every book in this series and LOVE them!

I'm also a huge Patricia Cornwell fan and my favorite book ever is My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Piccoult.

I need to figure out which books to take to WDW with me!

A Thousand Splendid Suns is definitely not a book to take to Disney! It was a good book, but a very emotional read. I still get upset thinking about it, and I read it two months ago.

The last book I read was Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. It's a little dense reading (again, not a vacation book) but it is an amazing story how one American, Mortenson, manages to navigate the political, religious and tribal cultures in Pakistan to build schools in the most poverty-stricken areas. I highly recommend it. :thumbsup2

Secret Life of Bees was not one of my favorites either, but it was entertaining. I'm glad I read it because I had heard so much about it.

I love this book and love love love Bourdain.

On topic: I rereading Anne Rice's first "Jesus" novel. The 2nd novel comes out next week and I wanted to remember the book better. Its surprisingly good about a young boy and his family.

I loved Secret Life of Bees but perhaps it was because it was right after my daughter was born and the whole mother/daughter thing was forefront in my life. The Mermaid Chair (by same author) is really interesting.

I am re-reading Bitter is the New Black. It is just as funny and snarky as the first time I read it. It is one of those books you can read a little, and then leave it alone for a while until you have time to get back to it-which I need now that the weather is getting better and I want to be OUTSIDE!!!

This is the best book I've read in quite a while. What else have people who liked this book read recently?
Am I the only person who read the first 5 pages of this book and never picked it up again? I just didn't get it, and I usually give book at least 50 pages before I give up on them.

Is it worth it to give it another try?

Just finished Life's A Beach by Claire Cook for a book club meeting this coming Tues night

For pleasure Im reading The Chocolate Lover's Club - Carole Matthews

Then I'll be reading (or listening to) Dream When You're Feeling Blue by Elizabeth Berg for a different book club

Yes.:thumbsup2
Pick it back up and give it a bit more time.

I just CANNOT get into a book lately. It's so odd and frustrating.:sad1:
I did pre-order the new Jodi Picoult, though.

I just finished reading Water for Elephants.
I thought it was good.

Now I'm reading Snow Falling on Cedars which I will be putting up because I just cannot get into it.

So next I'm going to read Beach of Promise by James Scott Bell.

Lindsay, we seem to have similiar taste in books from what I've seen on different threads.

I didn't like this book at all when I picked it up. Honestly, I thought the idea was pretty lame because it's not something that could happen in real life. I was also confused & had to go back to re-read some things many times.

I always give a book at least 100 pages & even after that I was still thinking that this book just isn't doing it for me, but figured I was that far in so I would finish.

Once I got past the "can't really happen" thing & focused on the characters & their personalities, etc. I started to enjoy it.

By the end I had really gotten into the characters & enjoyed them. After finishing it & thinking about the characters & what they went through & not the time traveling part I can say that I really enjoyed it.

I'd give it another try.

Which book are you talking about? I need to start a new one and not sure what I want to read. Karen

I agree, MELSMICE. I had to get over the whole Time Traveling thing, b/c honestly, that just confuses me..

Anywho...I got really engrossed in the characters and the true love between Clair and Henry. Heartwrenching stuff.

I know, I just hate that. I can not for the life of me get into Eat, Pray, Love. I got it b/c everyone raved about it, but I am just not feeling it yet. I will give it another try, though.
