I'm going to start something light and fun. I bought Quantum by Imogen Rose. It's the 3rd book in the Portal Chronicles. I read the first one and was hooked! I read the 2nd one Equilibrium over the summer.(this is exactly how I felt when I read Twilight.

Just finished Janet Evanovich's Sizzling 16 along with Joanne Fluke's Carrot Cake Murder (a culinary mystery with recipes).

Love Stephanie Plum mysteries & these culinary stories are nice simple easy- to-read & not too graphic. Diane Mott Davidson also writes culinary mystery stories in a similar manner. As I recall, her stories also include recipes.

I am readingg the latest Diary of a Whimpy Kid book. What can I say? I am student teaching, and I don't have time for much else! :)

:thumbsup2 i LOVE reading kids/teen/young adult books!! i especially loved it when i was student teaching because i got all these new recommendations from the kids :rotfl:

Just returned from a DCL cruise and read Shanghai Girls and LOVED it! Great vacation read. Also finished Every Last One by Anna Quinlan. Would not call it a vacation read but it definately stayed with me.

I Loved Shanghai Girls! Did you read Snow Flower and The Secret Fan, by the same author? Loved that as well!

trying to finish a series by VC Andrews that a friend lent me, read Unfinished Symphony yesterday, going to start Music in the Night tonight. Like V.C. Andrews but I am not in love with this series, only trying to finish for my friend :)

.If you're ready to take on a long novel, try Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. My recommendation is to use 2 bookmarks for this one. One keeps your place in the book and the other keeps your place in the end notes. It is a fantastic story of Anna's love triangle and Levin's desire for a wife and farm..

which version would you recommend? I am looking at the free version for Kindle rather than paying for the oprah version.

I read the one translated by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. It is the one with the beautiful cover with the purple flowers on the woman's lap. Unfortunately, this is the one that was used by Oprah.

FWIW, I picked the one that I did because it was on the libraries' shelf. If you find the free version horribly translated, you can always opt to buy the Oprah version. Or, try the free sample versions for the Kindle to find out which translation you like best.

I finished Life by Keith Richards. I have to say, I enjoyed it. It was a slow start and much of it, musically, went over my head. I think it's a great book for anyone who plays guitar and anyone who was really into music in the late 50s/early 60s (when Keith was developing is musical tastes). Whie I realize this is an autobiography, I think it gave great insight to the kind of person Keith Richards is and really good insight on how the Stones have their own "sound."

Thanks for the review! I am interested in the book. Keith Richards looks to be such a character. If the book is half as "colorful" as he is, it has to be good.

I'm reading Ceremony in Death by JD Robb.

Oh that was a good one! :)

I've been dying to get back to that series. I read some out of order (before I knew it was a series  ).

I just have to admit to myself I'm not going to get much reading done for awhile. I've been plodding along with the same book for so long. Catching a few stolen moments for reading.

It's all about the holidays right now. But I do have a list! :)

Plantation by Dorothea Benton Franks.

It took me a few tries to get into it but I'm enjoying it~

I finished "Strangers on a Train", and while I didn't really like it, it did pick up toward the ending. Now, being a glutton for punishment, I'm reading another book by the author, "The Talented Mr. Ripley". I do have to say, though, that it's much better so far. The plot is moving along faster, and the characters are more believable and likeable. I hope to finish this one soon. I've got a stack waiting for me at the library. Gotta try to run up there this afternoon. I need reading material for my trip this weekend!

Haha I do the exact same thing with Elin Hilderbrand. I have read probably 5 of her books and I haven't "loved" any of them but for some reason I keep reading them :confused3 I think I like the setting of her books more than any of the stories, maybe thats why I keep reading them :rotfl:

Well, I've got to put "The Talented Mr. Ripley" on the back burner. Just remembered that book club meets on December 2nd, and I need to read "A Christmas Carol" before then. Hopefully, I can get back to "Ripley" in a couple of days.

Snow Flower is on my library list - can't wait to get it. I grabbed Labor Day at Costco and am about to start that next.

I finally finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I enjoyed re-reading them all consecutively.

Now reading Joan Didion - The year of Magical Thinking.

I started the Forest of Hands and Teeth last night and its SO good! Its definitely terrifying and I'm only on page 60. Can't wait to finish it tonight and see how it ends, I'm sure I will be ordering the sequel asap :) Thanks to whoever recommended it on here :goodvibes

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm really excited about the third in the series. I think it comes out this spring! The second book is good too!

I read about it on Jen Lancaster's blog and then in a magazine. I never read zombie stories so I didn't really plan to read it. :confused3 I bought it completely on impulse!
