I'm about 1/2 way through, In Harm's Way, by Ridley Pearson. It's interesting so far. It's kept my attention. The book has gotten good reviews, so
time will tell!

I haven't read any books by him. New territory.

I am STRUGGLING with THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO!! People keep telling me to stay with it that once it "grabs" you - you are HOOKED.......

HELP!!!

I could NOT get hooked on it AT ALL, on an amazon.com discussion people were talking about how long to stay with a book

~some said 2-3 chapters
~some said 25% of book
My favorite was
"lifes too short to read a bad book" so if I dont want to pick it up or dread reading it, I DON'T!!!!

It never hooked me. I gave up after reading half of it. I found myself looking at the book and thinking about everything else I could be doing instead of reading it.

I finished "The Cinderella Pact", and found it light and enjoyable.

After that I read Harlen Coban's "The Woods". It was an intense mystery, and I really enjoyed it!

Then I picked up "Dream Factory". I read this as it was set in WDW, but it really wasn't my cup of tea. Too much teenage angst.

Now, I'm reading "The Mysterious Benedict Society". This is one that my daughter recommended to me, so I'm giving it a read. So far, it's imaginative and fun!

Hi book friends..............any thoughts on any of the E-readers. I'm considering asking for one for Christmas & I'm not sure what the pros & cons of each one are.

I've read about them online but wanted to get some insight from users on these boards before I decided.

I've read that you "check out" books from the library? How does this work & is that feature available on al the E-readers? I would want one that you can read both outside in the sun & at night when I'm in bed. Right now I use a booklight in bed.

Don't want anything too heavy but not so small that it's difficult to read.

TIA for your help.

I have a Kindle and I really love it. To be fair, I haven't checked out the alternates. I'm happy with what I have so I suppose that's a good thing. I haven't "checked out" books and I'm not sure you can with Kindle. Someone can correct me on this. You buy books from Amazon and they are yours. They stay on your Kindle as long as you want them. They always have free books so there is always something to read even if you don't have money!

You do need a booklight for Kindle in the dark. It is not back lit which I actually like. It's easier to read for long periods of time, plus it takes less battery power.

I'm sure you'll choose the right one!

I'm in the same boat. I am asking for one for Christmas. The Nook, by Barnes and Noble, is the only ereader that allows for checking books out of the library, but it's not every library. There is another thread here on the DIS that compares the Kindle and the Nook. You might want to search for it and check out both the pros and cons of both.

NOTHING (sadly). I'm in a reading slump. Can't seem to start anything & get into it. I cleared out some of my books last night that I just can't seem to enjoy & pass them on to a friend.
Looking back on the thread for some great suggestions~

Nothing. And I am going stircrazy!

I am waiting to receive the 4 Twilight series books in the mail. I ordered them a week or so ago, so they should be here soon.

I have never read the books, and am curious to do so.

:)

Just about anything - I usually alternate fiction and non-fiction. I just finished the Imagineer's Guide to Epcot, so, technically, it's time for fiction, but I'm open to either.
What did you decide on?

I'm reading The Alibi Man by Tami Hoag right now.

I'm reading Carolyn Haines Mississippi Delta Mystery series and really enjoying her. :) The books involve a southern belle who really isn't and is becoming a private investigator, a family ghost who is harassing her to have a baby, dogs and murders in her town in Mississippi.
So far I've read Them Bones, Buried Bones; reading Splintered Bones and have Crossed Bones waiting on my Kindle. :thumbsup2
I'd describe it as a Stephanie Plum series southern style.

I've finished some YA books before my kids read them. "River Secrets" by Shannon Hale, which I really enjoyed! I've read all the other books in the series, and I'm happy to say that I think all the books are quite good! I also read "Fairy Haven and the Quest for the Wand." My 8 year old wanted to read it, and I think she'll enjoy it. It was ok, but not stunning literature!

Now I'm reading "The Good Son" by Michael Gruber. This is our book club's book for our November meeting. So far, I'm not really liking it. The first 2 chapters were slow, and then it started to pick up. Now, 5 chapters in, it's back to moving very slowly. I really hope it gets better!!!

I just finished Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich. If you like the Stephanie Plum series then you will like this one. It was cute and entertaining.
