I just finished Without a Word: how a boy's unspoken love changed the world (I hope I have the end of that title correct) by Jill Kelly, wife of Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly. It was a very powerful, moving book about her son Hunter who died at the age of 8 of Krabbe disease. They live in my town and I have heard her speak at my church, before Hunter passed away. I was profoundly affected by this book. She was unbelievably candid and painfully honest about what a priviledge it was to care for a disabled child, and how it nearly tore her marriage apart. Jill Kelly's faith is amazing, amazing!! Really a life-changing book.
I am not one to read non-fiction, but I have considered reading this book....mainly because I'm from WNY also & have followed what they went through with their son, Hunter.

Has anyone here read Jodi Picoult's newest, Keeping the Faith (or something similar)? If so, how was it? I saw it at Borders over the weekend and it looked interesting.

I'm currently reading Elizabeth Kostova's "The Historian". I'm LOVING it!!! I had heard that it was a real slow book, but I'm not finding that the case. It is a really long book, and I don't have much time, but when I do, I love being able to pick it up!

I finally finished "The Serpent's Tale" by Arianna Franklin. It was awful! It's the sequel to "Mistress in the Art of Death" which I loved, but this book was disjointed with no character development at all.

I started "Mudbound last night." I'm only a few pages into it, but it's already better than "Tale." I am also reading "Just After Sunset"...a collection of short stories by Stephen King. It's unusual for me to have two books going at the same time. I hope I don't get too confused!

I hated "The Serpent's Tale", too. The next book in the series is more on par with the first one (which I loved!)

A friend of mine loaned the book to me and I loved it, too. It started off slow, IMHO, but once they all started traveling, I couldn't put it down.

Right now, I have about 300 pages to go in Gone With The Wind. I wish I had more time to devote to that book because it is written so well and is so interesting.

That's good to know. I just didn't get this one at all.

The Book Club by Mary Alice Monroe. I almost put this one down but decided to struggle on. It's not a great book but I'm a little over halfway through and most of the characters are beginning to gel. I can relate to a couple of them.

The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks.......not close to being my favorite by him. It did have a few ways it could have gone to be "untypical" Sparks & would have made for a much better read....

I feel like he needs to stir it up a little or maybe I've become to old for Sparks.

I haven't had much luck with books lately. The last 2 or 3 I haven't finished.

The most recent unfinished book was by Michael J. Fox. It was disappointing, I hate to say. I wanted to like it. I read about 3 chapters and that was more than enough.

I picked up, In Harm's Way, and will start that once I've finished, Decked.

Any suggestions for fun caper novels? If it helps I love shows like Leverage and Burn Notice so thinking along those lines.

I just started: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.

You just reminded me that I started it a couple of month's ago and then forgot about it. I wonder where I put it.........

Hope no one minds if I join in! I just got a Kindle and have been flying through books recently. I just finished book #4 in the Konigsburg Texas series by Meg Benjamin. I loved them (I love guilty pleasure books!)

I think my next will be Once a Cowboy by Linda Warren.

For anyone else who has any kind of eReader, check out this site for free books: http://inkmesh.com/ It gets updated frequently, I check it out every day!

Welcome! We're always ready to hear about the books that's been read.

I finished Gone With The Wind last night and I loved every second of reading it!

I'm going to start In Cold Blood By Truman Capote today.

Well, it took me a solid week (which is unusual), but I finished "The Historian". I really liked it!! No sparkly, sexy vampires here, just the plain, horrible story of Dracula! That's the way I like it!!!

After that I whizzed through "The Crossroads Cafe." Not a stellar book, but a really light, fun, fluffy romance. It was a good one to sweep the vampires out of my mind!

Next up is "Blind Submission" by Debra Ginsberg. Another book recommended here, a long time ago. I'm slowly working my way through the notebooks filled with titles I've picked up here!

Gone With the Wind is my absolute favorite book EVER! It's also my favorite movie, too. Which is odd, since I usually hate movies that tamper with my favorite characters!
