What are my odds of getting Hawaii?

I called today for a room at the Marriott in Oahu checking in on any Saturday in October, 2009.

I presume my odds of getting this are good, but I'm paranoid and impatient.

Am I being silly to worry about getting shut out?

Thanks!

Any Saturday in 2009? Now that is what I call flexible. If this doesn't come through- I give up all hope.;) Are you only willing to accept the Marriott?

Good Luck I requested a Trade for either Atlantis or a resort in North San Diego for any time in the Summer of 2009 all of July and August and I have not heard anything. Let us know how you make out and good luck again. Tracy:goodvibes

You will not get Atlantis in the summer without owning there. We are Starwood owners, Harborside is a Starwood resort. We can internally exchange into Harborside at the 8 month mark. There is never anything available during the summer, except early June and Labor Day.

Even as an owner at Starwood, I have waitlisted the past two years and have not had success for the summer months. We have had success going the second week in June, right after the kids get out of school.

I kind of like going in early June, places aren't as crowded. We're going out to the Marriott Summitwatch in Park City in early June. We were going to go to Vail in early Aug for the dance festival(had my Lakeside unit booked) but DH's executive MBA program got in the way.

Don't get me wrong, this is the second year in a row going that week to Harborside. We love it! We already have made arrangements to stay in St. John USVI in 2009, for the same week, week 24 (6/13-6/20).

Actually taking that early summer trip usually leads to a second, shorter trip in August. Got to love that!!

What is wrong with getting the Marriott? Or is it that you mean why limit yourself? Just curious?

I was just curious if they were willing to stay elsewhere, and if so, how much that would affect their chances. (Figuring someone would chime in with a good idea of their chances for the just the Mariott vs. Mariott and a few others.) Tomandrobin- can I ask which Starwood you own?

I guess I was sleepy when I misread your post OP. I am curious how your search goes- please keep us posted.

A few thoughts on Oahu. We traded in there last February. There are only 2 II exchanges on the island. Marriott's Ko Olina and another that got a really low review on TUG. So I would definately try for Ko Olina. Now to the original poster. Are you trying to get a specific size room? Are you also open to arriving on either Friday or Sunday (check in is either Friday, Saturday or Sunday). We were open to anything and got a studio with a Friday check-in after only a 2 week search. Good luck!

Being that our trip is nearly 2 years away, we figured asking for a 1 bedroom on any Saturday in October, 2009 wouldn't be a problem.

We only asked for the Marriott as I heard the other II location wasn't so great.

You mentioned TUG. What is that? I'm a newbie.

Thanks!

We are single week owners with Marriott and we can reserve a week 12 months out. Some Marriott owners that own more than one week can reserve at 13 months out. So you won't match anything until you get within 1 year of check-in. Studios would be the easist to match, then 1 bedrooms. 2 bedrooms and larger would be extremely hard, as most people that own the bigger units usually lock them off and deposit them as a 1 bedroom and studio to give them two deposits in II (Interval International). Marriott owners get first crack at Marriott inventory, too, so that can make it harder for a non Marriott owner to get one.

Hopefully Dean will chime in and give some advice on a Saturday 1 bedroom check-in for October.

Good luck.

TUG is Timeshare Users Group. http://www.tug2.net/ They have ratings and reviews done for many properties by members. It is a nominal price to join but I found it worth it for doing our research. Good luck with your search. I still think you'd have better luck if you asked for check-in on the other two days as well but I could be wrong.

The one bedroom units are wonderful but we found for just the two of us tha the studio (or efficiency as they called it) worked well.

The Ko Olina area is beautiful!

From reading the great discussion boards at TUG, I understand that the reason to request early is to be one of the first in line so that when the units are available, you have a better chance of getting one. Sort of like getting in line at the MK before the park opens even though you know they wil not yet let you in, so you can be one of the first in line at SM!

Best of luck -- Suzanne
