What age was your child when you replaced the crib with a bed?

As soon as the kids can climb out of the crib we take it down-

dd- 14 months
ds- 10 months
ds2 - 2 years, he is so much happier at bedtime now- he sleeps better in his real bed than he ever did in his crib.

My oldest dd was just shy of 2 and the second one was just over 2 (I think) when we moved them into a double bed (they slept together until we got bunkbeds earlier this year). Neither had ever crawled out, with the first we were moving her into another bedroom so my DH could use her old one as an office and we didn't really have anywhere to store the guest bed so it became her bed. With the second dd, she wanted to sleep with her sister and since I was pregnant we decided to let her. That said, at 3 to 4 both my girls would frequently wake and come into our room to try to sleep with us. They toss and turn WAY too much so I get no sleep if they join us (I do allow it if they are really ill). We have a sleeping bag or comforter set up on the floor in our room and now my youngest dd (4 last August) comes in by herself pretty much every night and sleeps on the floor. She doesn't usually wake me up unless she has to go potty. My oldest did the same thing when she was that age. At 7 she now sleeps all night in her bed and has done so for 2 years or so. We did let our oldest pick her own sheets when she moved and that did seem to help with the adjustment. Naps were an issue though, she wouldn't stay in her bed for anything. I just gave up after a while and let her have "quiet time" in her room.

I do have an 18 month old ds who is still in the crib. He is more of a climber, so I won't be surprised if he makes the jump. We do close a gate at the top of the stairs at night just in case.

I just remembered that my neighbors had their son in his crib until at least 4 (he is really small for his age). They would leave the rail down so he could get in and out on his own without a problem.

My oldest DD was a couple of weeks shy of 3. She had just started being "unhappy" in her crib, and then we moved to a new house, and DD number two was due in three months. She did fine with all of the transitions. DD #2 will be 3 in December and is still in the crib. She loves it there. She does know how to get out of it, as she has climbed in and out a few times during the day. But for naps and at bed time she never gets out until we go in and get her out. My mother didn't give me a lot of parenting advice, but one of the few things she DID tell me was.."keep them in a crib for as long as possible!" (within reason, of course!!). They are safe and secure in a crib, and we don't have to play the "get out of bed, get in bed, get out of bed, get in bed" game yet!

DD was 20 months when she went to a twin bed. DS was 4 months and had out grown the bassinet.

DD never attempted to climb out. We just needed the crib. She had no problems. She was used to taking naps in our bed (By herself). The only thing that surprised us was that it was so high. Higher than our bed. It seems beds are getting higher and higher. She was able to handle it.

We didn't want our son taking naps in our bed. He was too active, DD was already there and I guess we learned from the past. So DS has always slept in a crib.

DS is now 16 months and surprisely has not tried to climb out yet (keep our fingers crossed). We had no plans to move him... However, we just found out I'm pregnant so I guess I also gotta think about it. We have time. I'm only 5 weeks.

DS was moved from his crib to a bed at around 18 mos. We were moving to a new house, and I didn't want to have to set up his crib again in his new room just to have to change it out again 6 months later . He went right into a twin race car bed, and we never had any incidents with falling out of the bed.

Just a thought here, butif you haven't done so, you might want to talk to your daughter about what is upsetting her, it is possible there is something going on in her life that is making her behave this way. While her behavior is not uncommon, she is attempting to communicate with you, and it is worth an investigation.
