Western Washington peeps

I hope your husband is safe and sound and coming home soon. I can't image having mine gone for long periods of time, well sometimes I can.... ;)

Still snowing a lot with not much wind....*knock on wood* it stays that way.

Thanks. :) We get to see him next month, and he should be home to stay in June. I hope.

I'm really wishing he was here now, though. We're doing okay by ourselves, but this is the first big weather thing I've had to deal with alone out here in the sticks. Did lots of them years ago as a single mom in the city, but that's different. For one thing, you can walk to the store.

I just got an email from a friend saying the storm is looking like it's not going to be as bad as they had originally thought. I can only hope that's right!! pixiedust:

I am a long-time lurker living in Central Washington. My husband and I were planning on going to Seattle this weekend to visit our son for an early Christmas. I developed a nasty flu bug, we cancelled our trip, I am so thankful. I am keeping in close touch with my friends over there-all of you stay warm and safe. We are starting to see snow and wind here in Mattawa.

Nooooodles! Nooooodles!

did you hear me calling you outside? they just sanded our road (last night? this morning?) and i think we must live close-by. yesterday (before the sanding) i tried to make a costco run, but chickened out when i slid out of the neighborhood and realized i had a couple hills along my route. :scared1:

My mom attempted a costco run this afternoon, she said she couldn't even get close to the Kirkland costco it was packed. I could totally use a trip to costco right now but I'm too chicken to even try leaving my driveway.

the last time i remember weather like this in western washington was in college (winter of '85? or was it '86?) before that it was in the '70s, somewhere around when i was 11 or 12yo.

bundle up, folks, it's still snowing!

we made it eventually (DH grew up in eastern washington and is much more comfortable driving in the snow than i am.) geesh, was it hopping! as was the grocery store today; i think everyone was stocking up before the storm.

I'm heading to bed, the girls are all tucked in in the living room and we're hoping for the best tonight!

Stay safe and warm everyone - check in tomorrow morning, if possible!

We're down in Auburn/Federal Way and it's just snowing lightly. Still no wind to speak of. I worked 10 hours overtime today and had to drive down into Algona, had no problems with the roads. Just sort of wondering what it's going to be like in the morning!
I just keep remembering that a week from now, we'll be in WDW!!!!

It's snowing fairly hard here, tiny little icy flakes. I didn't go out to measure because I'm in slipper socks, but it looks like about 2-3 inches has built up on my car since it started up this afternoon.

That was 85. We spent a whole day pushing cars up or back down the hill in front of our apartment. LOL

Don't forget 96. Not snow, but the ice storm. Trees down like toothpicks all over the place. Ugly mess. I had a friend who was terminally ill at the time. We didn't lose power, and by the time it occurred to me to check up on her she'd been in a freezing cold house for 24 hours. :( My husband (my boyfriend then) was driving a big burly Suburban at the time, and he went and got her. She lived maybe a mile from me, and it took him an hour to get to her house. He kept having to backtrack and try different roads because there were so many trees down across the roads. He four-wheeled it over the branches, but whole tree trunks were out of the question. LOL

The other one was in either 74 or 75, I think. My parents were on base and couldn't get home that night. I was with a completely worthless babysitter who freaked out and panicked. My goodness, we had a fireplace and my family was into search and rescue--we had everything we needed to survive for a month. Dumb bunny.

Our grocery store was slammed too. I live in a sparsely populated area, we just have a tiny little grocery store. Nearest "real" grocery store is eleven miles whichever direction you go from my house (three different counties too...haha). The freezer sections were wiped out. Most everyone around here has a generator, so people get frozen foods they can do in the toaster oven when it looks like we'll lose power. God bless our little town, too. I hadn't gone to the post office before the store, so I didn't have my ad with the coupons, but the lady had an ad at the checkstand and scanned her coupons for all the stuff I bought. AND let me know to go back and get myself the free half gallon of ice cream. My kids were thrilled with the ice cream idea. They are having some right now (BRRR!).

It's snowing here now. Well it has been for a while.
We decided to huddle up at a friends house and play some rockband!!
Now I am just waiting for the pass report...

I hope everyone is doing alright.

Don't forget December 1990. We got married on the 22nd in the middle of a storm system. Snow and cold temps. The hotel where our guests were staying had their pipes freeze, setting off the sprinkler systems in some of the rooms. We didn't lose power, but I had friends on the Kitsap Pennisula that had been out of power for several days before my wedding and remained out for several after. We left for our honeymoon in snow flurries and came back a week later surprised to see it was still snowing!

We're at 5 inches and counting right now, but still no wind thank goodness!

December 1996...If I can dig out pics I remember having TONS of snow!!
DS12 was 5 months old and my aunt bundled him up and sat him on a mound of snow and took pics.
I remember it snowed & snowed & snowed!!

Oh yes, disykat, you're right. I was living just outside of Olalla, on the bank facing Vashon Island (don't know if it's officially part of the "Kitsap peninsula" or not, but Olalla is in south Kitsap county) when that one hit. It was awful. I had a little Hyundai Excel that would go ANYWHERE though. I was the only one in the family that got out and drove for a couple of days. We were out of power for a few days on that one. Can't remember how many...but thank goodness for a wood burning stove and a gen.

I just looked in my 1996 photo album. That must have been an early snowstorm! The photos show a bunch of snow on trees still full of colorful leaves. Weird. I really don't remember that storm. It's in my album right before pictures of Santa arriving at the mall. I'm pretty sure at that time he did still come AFTER Thanksgiving though!

I can't believe how much those itty bitty flakes that are falling are adding up.

I just took my dog out to do his thing, and took a ruler with me. I knew it was getting deep right away, cuz it's over the top of my boots. They are just Dansko ankle boots, though. According to the stump (you can see the stump in the pictures of my front yard that I've posted here and there today) we have 8 1/2 inches so far.

I missed your post earlier. I'm glad you are safe at home and not on the roads. Feel better soon, though.

Hello, I live in south tacoma. We have about 5 inches here.:cool1: I love the snow but the one thing I don't love so much is when I got stuck on 167 for 6 hours:headache: on Thursday after I got off work. I was coming from Renton. I was very upset when I got home at 10:30pm:mad: They also closed west valley hwy. so, everything south was closed down until morning time. My husband came over to pick me up and take me on all the back roads so we could get home. Now, it's not really snowing right now but it was for a long time today and it was coming down pretty good too. The winds were never really a problem here. I want more snow as long as I don't have to
drive in it. I was really hoping to have a white christmas. Maybe this year we'll have one, but who really knows:confused3 around here anymore.:)

Hiya South Tacoma. :) That's where I lived until two and a half years ago. My daughter lives over there still.

We haven't seen any wind over here on the peninsula either, but it is still snowing steadily, or was last time I went out. I can't see outside because it is pitch black out here at night...no street lights.

I hear you on 167. I swear that highway is just a misery all the time for one reason or another. I used to drive it once or twice a week, doing a drug runner route (LEGAL...I worked for a pharmacy  ) from Renton down through Kent, Auburn, Algona and Milton. Didn't always have Algona and Milton. I spent a lot of time crawling on 167 and 405, and that was in perfectly clear weather. :sad2: Glad you finally made it home safely, but what a nasty commute!

I am not sure how much snow we have but there is quite a bit.
I will measure when I finally decide to go outside.
I am thinking 8" give or take an inch.

My DS was 6 weeks old when that storm hit, I remember my grandma coming up for Christmas and getting stuck because of the storm. We lost power for a few days during that one.

Power went out for about two minutes last night, otherwise it was just snow snow snow....I don't want to see anymore snow!!
