The peninsula I'm on is attached to the Kitsap peninsula...the one that says "heaviest snowfall expected." :scared1:

Thanks for the well-wishes. We're used to 35-40* and raining in the winter, not teens/twenties and snow/ice. It doesn't happen often and when it does it usually doesn't stick around. When it sticks around...it can be a pretty bad scene.

I have 200 gallons of propane and a propane heating stove in the house. I have a generator that is full of gas...unfortunately getting two miles uphill to the gas station for more gas could be a major issue...but at least we won't freeze. The gen is mostly for keeping the fridge and lights on, and the well pump running. I have plenty of food in the house that can be eaten cold, and bottled juice and water just in case I can't keep the well pump running. I think we'll be okay. Still not looking forward to this though...

I know it would really suck for sure, But it sounds like that you are prepared though which is good.

I swear it can start with a few flurries they call school off and NC just about shuts down it is crazy. If I never see another day of snow in my life i will be happy. we used to get lots and lots of snow when I was a child and then we had that Blizzard in 93 I think and we were stuck for over a week:scared1: . Never again do i want to go through that. I try every winter to get my DH to move on further South but It doesnt do any good. I just hate the cold and snow.

I'm hoping to be on a train tomorrow headed to my parents house. We'll see. I have to get a taxi 2 hours early to the train station because the taxis for the time I needed to go were all booked up and the rest are for "emergencies." GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. If I don't get out tomorrow morning, I'm going to be stuck until Christmas. So we'll see what happens... I hate snow. It can go away now.

We live in Anacortes and have been pretty much house bound for the last few days. Dh and I are from NY and OH originally so we are used to snow and ice but lots of folks that are native here aren't, so we have just felt safer not being out on the roads. We are venturing out tommorow to hit WalMart for some last minute things before the next round starts. Hopefully it won't hit us too hard up here.

I have a feeling we're going to get slammed up here. I'm in Bellingham and the roads are just gross in town. Out in the county, they seem to be fine...:confused3 Ugh. This just stinks.

I'm hoping the train station opens early tomorrow because otherwise I'm going to be up a creek and frozen solid. :sad2:

We don't have a generator. I'm thinking we may have to give in and try to find one in the morning - if we can get out of our neighborhood and get to a store. We don't have a fireplace and we're going to freeze if the power goes out.

We were waiting to get a large generator that we could hook the septic pump up to. Now I think we'll settle for a small one we could hook a heater to - if we can find one! We always have just gotten out the camping stuff if we lose power, but the septic tank is an issue. I can continue to live with limited flushing and no showers when we lose power, but I'm not feeling good about this cold!

Best wishes, everyone.

Honugirl, I know you've been worried about making that train. I hope it goes okay.

Thanks! I'm just worried about freezing my patootie off outside for an hour or so if the station isn't open when I get there. If I get down there and the station isn't open, then I have to choose to stay and freeze, or take the taxi home and miss the train. Why can't something go right this week??????????????????????????????

I don't know if this was just a local thing or what, but last year we had a terrible ice storm. We were without power for 12 days; it would have been unbearable w/o a generator. Home Depot sold their $700 generators for $399. We were lucky enough to have been there when a shipment arrived. My DH hooked up the house and we had heat and cable TV (plus the refrigerator). The generator made a horrid situation bearable.

I remember that. I have friends in Bixby. We don't often have this snow and ice problem, but we do have major windstorms and I live in the woods, out in the tweeds. We lose power for an average of a week if it goes out at all...that's why we have a gen!

Bixby!!! What a small world! I live near downtown in an old (for Oklahoma lol) neighborhood. We lost so many old trees that it took over four months to clean up the city of all the downed trees and limbs. My mother's car was in our driveway and after we dug it out, it cost over $5k to repair the damage.

I am worried about my DD. She is flying home from Hong Kong to O'Hare, then Kansas City on Sunday. I could just imagine her being diverted or snowed in at Chicago.

It does sound like you are prepared, though. You don't realize how much you depend on modern conveniences until you lose them!

 I hope you guys are able to get a generator. We've been lucky and never lost our power for more than 1.5-2 days.

HG-I hope you can get on that train. I know it's been weighing heavily on your mind.

My brother and basically all my family on my mom's side lives in the Seattle area. One year my grandma lost power for about 10 days after a windstorm. She lives at the top of a hill so ice is bad. My brother is in the U district so he will probably have less problems.

You all try to stay warm over there!

Speaking of staying warm... it's a balmy 2 degrees here in Eastern Washington today :scared1: With the wind chill I'm sure its way below zero.

We missed most of the last big storm that dumped up to 3' of snow in the Spokane area. We only had a couple of inches. This next system they are saying 4"-8" which isn't bad as long as the wind doesn't blow and make huge drifts for us to deal with.

Ephrata, huh? Just down the street from the Quincy Jackrabbits. :rotfl:

I grew up in Kennewick and my parents live in Richland now. BRRRRR! Try to stay warm! And I'm SURE you've got wind along with that cold. When is it NOT windy in Eastern Washington? :confused3

I keep reading the local weather reports and hoping, praying it will change. We're in the high wind area for this one, not so much snow but winds up to 90mph. I seriously want to vomit, I can't take much more of this!! :scared1:

This morning DS and I are going to dig out the generators from the garage and hope the gas I bought a month or so ago is still there, if it's not, we're totally screwed. :headache:

Our hill is compact snow and ice, nothing is making it the hill and not much is making it down still....I'm going nuts!! :scared:

send some of that heat our way:rotfl2: it's around 8 a.m. as i'm posting this and my outside thermomoter is showing -10 degrees:scared1:

how much snow did you get in this past weeks 24 hour system? we live near cheney and received over 28 inches-with a couple more inches since then. they are projecting we could get around another 8 inches with this new system.

thank goodness we have a snow blower and great neighbors. dh was able to dig us out and clear our driveway afterwhich the neighbors were able to borrow our blower to get themselves out. neighbors with plows and other equipment have cleared the main private (unpaved) road we all use to get to the county maintained road but as of yesterday those had'nt been touch by DOT. the news stations are doing their community dig-out's today but i have to wonder what kind of turnout they will get when allot of folks can't even get into town.
