Were your parents highly successful?

If success= rich, then no. My dad retired from the military after 20 years and then taught at a high school while he earned an advanced degree. Then he taught at a college. My mom stayed at home with me. We lived in a diverse middle-class neighborhood. We had a four bedroom home with a pool and traveled quite a bit. I grew up in the 70s so times were different. Today my parents would both work outside the home and we probably would not have a pool or travel internationally on one income (even though it was supplemented with his military pension).

No. My dad sacrificed a career as a physical therapist because he refused to take a religions course. Instead he worked as an orderly at the hospital and a janitor at the elementary school. Mom didn’t work until we were in middle school the she worked retail and at a care home for mentally handicapped adults.

My mother only went to 8th grade. She had to drop out of school to take care of 6 brothers. They were farmers. My dad was a carpenter.
