We'll do it live! Live mini-TR. (Day 4: good afternoon, good evening, and good night)

I think that will do it for today. Tomorrow is in flux, mostly because I dislike Hollywood Studios and might skip it. The agenda so far:

The Wave for breakfast
Hollywood Studios (maybe)
Dinner and movie at DTD (also maybe)

Some dummy made breakfast reservations for way too early in the morning. Don't they know I'm on vacation?

It's just before 8:30am and I'm in the lobby at the Contemporary waiting for an 8:55 ARD. It wouldn't be a Disney Resort without at least 2 crying children.

My original plan was to hop on the express mono and just take it to here, but the express mono doesn't start running until 8:30, and my experience so far is that it's not actually express-ing. More like leisure-ing. It has quite literally been faster for me to walk to the MK transportation center and hop on the ferry.

Time to load up in the speed machine (2014 Kia Soul) and just drive there myself. I allowed so much time for traffic jams that I arrived about 45 minutes early. Whoops.

Apart from the mono trip through the building, this is my first time in the Contemporary. I like the smell. It's a very subtle yet pleasant clean smell. The scent of the Polynesian is a little much. It smells nice enough but any extended time in the lobby and it becomes overwhelming. If they could notch it down to this level, it'd be much better.

There's a strange vibe from this place that I actually like quite a bit. It's more grown up than the resorts I've been to. This vibe feels like Adult Disney to me. I would love to see the rooms. I've seen pictures, but pictures don't convey everything.

Wave in 15.

A poor mother has just had a complete meltdown in the lobby. Her kids have broken her. Disney has broken her. I can see from the exasperation on her face that she would rather be anywhere but Disney right now. I can also see from the two kids going completely limp to further frustrate the mom trying to move them to the car that they don't want to be anywhere but Disney. The car or plane ride home is going to be the longest trip for all of them.

I would like to see a tower room too. We stayed there a long time ago...when there was a North Wing...which is now Bay Lake Tower. It also had the wacky mod décor then...I liked it...we enjoyed the stay, but honestly loved the Poly more. The transportation options at the Poly can't be beat. The most relaxing thing in the world was catching one of the small boats back from the MK to the Poly. I loved that ride. Let us know how the wave is...never been there.

Poor mom...I am very thankful that I did not start bringing my son there until he was 8...and was fully aware of my you do that, and we are going to have a come to Jesus meeting look. :)

And it ia always exciting to see other people just as excited as yourself!

Love the excitement of checking in for a Disney vacation. After a few days of extreme heat and late nights my kids had few moments that were not so magical.

Glad you were able to make it through the fireworks.
Love DTD window shopping and people watching.

First thing I notice about the Wave as I'm escorted to my seat is that it's quiet. Well, by Disney standards at least. It's also the first restaurant that isn't packed to the gills with people. I'd venture to say it isn't even half full. Before even touching the food, it's nearly a favorite. Let's see how the food stacks up.

Sausage and gravy AND eggs Benedict? That's crazy talk! The buffet is comparatively small, but the selection is nice. I can see a few items that will have to wait for a second trip. Time for a taste.

Scrambled eggs: typical of all of the Disney buffets. Not bad, not great

Hash brown casserole: bland

Sausage: standard stuff. I like it.

Biscuits and gravy: biscuits are nice and fluffy. Gravy isn't so great. Oddly seasoned.

Eggs Benedict: excellent. The egg is cooked spot on, with the yolk breaking perfectly when cut into. The sauce has a good taste. The seasoning is a bit off, but not in a bad way. This one is a winner.

On to round two.

Enjoying your trip report thanks for posting. I also enjoyed your trip report to Universal. I was stalking those boards prior to our trip in June. Your pictures and descriptions are great. Keep them coming.

There will, of course, be pictures added later. Round two consists of a Mickey waffle, bacon, cheddar bacon grits, a hard boiled egg, pineapple and yogurt, a biscuit with jam and butter, and a bagel with lox and cream cheese.

Let's eat!

Alright, plate two review:

Mickey waffle: excellent. Did you expect less? Crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle.

Grits: I'm not a grit person. I almost hate them. Grit people swear it's because I haven't had them prepared right. These are ok, which is high praise in this case.

Hard boiled egg: with a pinch of salt, yum.

Bacon: bacon

Biscuits: with butter and jam, fantastic. I recommend two things of jam to combat the dryness.

Bagel: surprisingly good. I had the least faith in this. Too much could go wrong. The bagel could be rubbish, the cream cheese too sour, and the smoked salmon five types of a disaster. Instead, all great. If I wasn't so full, I'd do this again.

Yogurt and fruit: it's alright. Not a huge Greek yogurt fan.

Check please!

Ok, strike that about the yogurt. I needed more. With the juicy pineapple pieces, it might be my favorite part of the breakfast. I added more strawberry yogurt to the mix and it's fantastic. I might try to cram down a third glass.

I've read a previous TR of yours and really enjoyed it. Reading this live TR is even better. However, it is making me terribly jealous as I sit here in my office 105 days to go.

Thanks for joining! You'll make it, just hang in there!

So, that was Wave. It was a very non-Disney experience, and I mean that in a good way. It was incredibly refreshing to eat without being bombarded by constant noise. I'd go back based on that alone. The food was mostly good as well. Like any other buffet some things will miss, but overall I was happy with this selection. Boma is still at the top of my list for buffets. While it's louder, the food seems more consistently good, and I like how open it is.

Still, if you are looking for a slightly more low key meal without characters, the Wave is definitely a good bet. It's the first time on this entire trip that I've left a place and not had ringing in my ears from the onslaught of noise.

I'd like to return to the Contemporary and walk around a bit and see if it'd be possible to look inside a room. Maybe next trip (Corey returns to Disney! In theaters September 20).

I'm back at my room. I'm going to load up pictures and then change plans. Today is Hollywood Studios day but I'm nope-ing the crap out of those plans. Updates to follow.

Enjoying your real-time play-by-play! Hilarious! Really making up for my boring morning at work.
