Hi y'all... I had one of those sleepless nights, so I skipped church and just watched service on TV :) I do have a thing I should be going to tonight, but we'll see if I poop out on it or not.

Betty, I can't wait to see pics of your DD at prom. I am sure she was gorgeous!!! I'll work on door pics. For whatever reason I just haven't done it yet today.

Lily, glad it seems to be fixed for you! I wasn't have trouble myself, but it was ultra slow. Lots of my friends, though said they had the exact same troubles that you were having!
Wishing your former co-worker all the best.

Wow, Karen, I can't believe how busy your life is! I really do hope it does slow down sometime!!!!!

Sherry, I can't believe how old the boys are now. I knew they were all growing up, but seeing all the ages like that is just... well WOW!

Is it still broke?
:confused3

Elaine, feel better.

I am THRILLED! I got the DVD project done for my DB retirement gift. It works too! There are 99 slides (max the program will allow). It was easy once I got it figured out. For me though, it was a HUGE learning curve. Now I rule!

hi gang I'm home!!

I had an absolute blast and am hoping to go back in sept. and do a river that is mostly cat 4!! :woohoo:

I'm absolutely beat, I partied like a woman with no children :woohoo: so I'm even more tired. The river was awesome, the water was really warm, but the air temp was pretty chilly (about 65degrees with a continuous breeze)

I'll give more details tomorrow. I just wanted to pop in and say hey!!

I'll see you all tomorrow!!

tara

This is my DD and her date for prom

Morning all! Went to bed early and slept in some since I hardly slept on Saturday night. Felt really good!

Lily, wasn't broken totally, but I had a hard time getting pages to load. So I turned my computer off really early. Glad you got your project finished! I bet it looks awesome!!!!

Tara, so glad you had a wonderful time!!!! You know, if you do it again, you ought to give some of us the details. I realized WV isn't too far from me either ;) and I've always wanted to go rafting :teeth:

Betty, she looks beautiful!!!! Isn't that similar to the color she had last year as well? It looks fabulous on her :) She looks so much like you too... very pretty :)

Oh and as promised

Morning Ya Yas!

Break time, come on sit down have a cuppa. :surfweb:

Betty, what a lovely DD you have. Handsome escort too!

Elaine, I like the door. Hope you enjoyed something of your weekend. Sorry about the no sleep thing.

Tara, glad you are safe and that you had a great time! Sept? cat 4???!!! Oh my.

Good morning!

Elaine the door looks really good. What is the color of the outside of your house? And the color of the dress this year is hot orange and last years dress was a pastel peach. I was stunned at the style of dress she picked this year because she usually picks something kind of princess type with no cleavage showing but she decided new boyfriend new style. She looked a little too grown up for her dad and me and we were glad that this is the last hgih school dance. LOL

Tara, I am glad you had a good time. I have gone rafting in Wyoming and Montana and we hit a few Cat 4 and it was great. You will love it.

Well, beautiful day here today...got to get moving.

Well here I am at least. :wave2:

I'm not sure if I mentioned it before, but we went with friends to a park on Thursday night and spread out a picnic blanket, junk food, etc (along with several hundred other people) and watched "Hoodwinked" on a large screen as a family activity sponsored by the parks system and local radio stations.

It was a much better movie than I expected it to be. We bought a copy of the DVD yesterday. ;)

The girls were in VBS all last week. They were doing the Arctic Edge theme and they did a presentation of the music they learned during church Sunday morning. It was cute.

Lily, you rock :teeth:
Paula, I hope things get better.
Todd, good to see you.
Tiara, you partied like a woman with no children who wears mom jeans? :confused3

And a big ol' howdy to everyone else!!!

Good afternoon gang,

Here is my trip report :)

First let me note that one of the members of the cast is using a psudonym. I didn't want her to google her name and see me talking about her. However, I am confident you will never pick out the one whose name is changed.

Cast: Me (reading teacher)
Susan (teacher assistant)
Kim F (interpreter)
Scott (Kim F's DH)
Kim G (interpreter at high school)
Ryan (Kim G's DH)
Leann (6th grade ss teacher)
John (School Resource Police Officer)
Brian (gorgeous hunk of a 6th grade science teacher who is happily married)
Bill (8th grade math teacher)
Annette (school LPN/EMT)
Sarah (SS high school teacher)
PITA (8th grade math teacher, voted most likely to get thrown under the boat and held there until she stopped moving :teeth: )

Important Rafting Vocabulary:
Rally...where you meet to get your gear and sign your life away
Basecamp...where you eat, sleep, and rally.
Put-in spot...where you put your raft on the river
Take-out spot...where we get out of the river
Kissing your butt as you pass it...what happens on the hairpin turns as you move through the mountains to get to the bottom of the gorge.
Swimming...what happens when you get thrown out of your raft
Rafting Virgin...someone who has never been rafting and in order to lose that status must be thrown out of the boat by an experienced rafter!!

Destination: Hico, West Virginia
Departure: 2:30, Friday June 9th
Returning: afternoon, Sunday June 11th
Package: Included two nights camping, two breakfasts, lunch on the water, and dinner back at the camp site.

Accomodations:8 person tent brought by Susan, set up by John prior to our arrival.

(Please note that some of the things mentioned here are not condoned by me nor was I partaking. But then again there was plenty for me to partake of, so please don't hate me for it :teeth: )

Departure:

Susan and I left school a little after 2 to head over to 7-11 to get more ice for our cooler and to meet up with another car full of people. The driver of the other vehicle, Bill, had come to Susan and asked if we had room for one more person. Knowing that PITA was the target, she politely declined ("Hell no, are you stupid???" ). The other vehicle held, Bill, Sarah, Brian, Leann, and PITA. The passengers had already had a couple of Miller Lite's prior to departing and they continued to partake as we drove. Susan and I kept our imbibing to diet coke and pepsi.

I had to follow Bill's truck because I had no idea where I was going. I had a map...but well, I don't follow maps too well. We hit traffic at the Hampton Roads Bridge tunnel and it took us almost an hour to get through the tunnel.

Since they had begun partying so soon we were required to stop several times (every 45 minutes :lmao: ) to allow them to use the restroom. We stopped just outside Richmond around 6 pm because the road was backed up and we decided that dinner would be better than sitting in another hour of traffic. We ate at Taco Bell (restaurant review...i had a mexican pizza, very yummy but not enough sour cream on top. I opted to skip the dessert and was sufficiently satisfied).

The drive is about 7 hours, however, we left at 2:38 and did not arrive until 11:45 pm. Between traffic and the potty stops it took a little longer than we planned.

Once in the camp site I proceeded to change into sweat pants and sweatshirt and picked up my first drink....can we say long night??????? :rotfl: :rotfl: Note to self...watch how much you drink the night before you go rafting...it can make the water seem rougher!! hehehe

Saturday:I woke up really early (only had about 3 hours of sleep :teeth: ) and had to hike to the potty on the other side of the camp, but then I was able to go back to sleep for another 45 minutes. The ground wasn't hard at all, I slept like a log and didn't notice any problems with the ground!! :rotfl2:

Breakfast was at 8am, eggs, bacon, potatoe squares, and fruit. It wasn't particularly good...there was coffee, OJ, and hot tea. No diet coke. I NEEDED a diet coke!

From here we went and got our wet suits on and rallied at 9am. We were told all the warnings and were given our helmets, oars, and Life vests.

part two in next post.

Part two of two.

At 9:30 we left Basecamp to drive the few miles up the mountain and then down the moutain to get into the gorge. Being a little fearful of heights and long drops I sat in the middle of the bus. I prefered not to sit at the back of the buss and Kiss my butt as we went around the curves!! There were even a few places where we had to do three point turns to get around the curves!

My boat consisted of Me, Susan, Bill, Leann, Sarah, and PITA (PITA is one of these people who feels the need to complain about EVERYTHING. She is such a whiner that before we left she was trying to decide if she wanted to rent a wet suit or not and I finally told her to do whatever she wanted...but that if she chose not to get a wetsuit or swim jacket that I was not going to listen to her gripe and moan all day because she was cold. hehehe She got a swim jacket and never mentioned being cold :rotfl: Although she did complain because she was wet :confused3 Um, I'm sorry you are on a RIVER with RAPIDS...what part of getting wet do you not understand...I'm the virgin and I knew that...she was experienced and still griped

The other boat was our Pirate boat pirate: They had a pirate flag and their favorite sayings were "argh" and "prepare to be boarded" :rotfl: Around the campfire with spirts this was hysterical!! They even took their flag out on the boat and it rode with them. This was John, the Kims, Scott, Ryan, and Brian.

We arrived at the river around 10 and were able to get our boats right in the water. The water was gorgeous and views were spectacular. The sides of the gorge were anywhere from 800+ feet high to about 1000 feet above us. The water level was only about a foot high. This river goes up to about 12 feet high in wet winters and then has a totally different ride.

I held my breath on the first rapid and then after that I couldn't wait to get to the next one. It was like riding a roller coaster except that you never knew what the drop was going to be like. We tried raft surfing but we couldn't get into the hole right so we kept missing it. :( But we hit some other rocks that sent us sailing!!

The first big rapid that we hit I wasn't braced very well and I flew forward and hit my hands on the lunch cooler. After that I made sure that I had a good grip and had my feet properly placed!! I never got thrown out on the rapids.

However, I did get thrown out of the boat once by Ryan. John couldn't get to me so he sent Ryan after me. I tried to fight him but he got me anyway. It startled me and I was having trouble getting my breath. The next time he tried to pull me out of the boat I spun around and yelled, "STOP". Apparently I also pointed one finger at him when I said it and I scared him :rotfl: he left me alone and didn't try to get me again. I apparently scare 22 year old boys too!! hehehehe

One spot on the water was called swimmers rapids. We jumped out of the boat and floated over the rapids on our backs down the river. That was an awesome ride...OMG...it was soooo cool!!!

The water was extremely warm but the air was cool, and the sun wasn't out that much. So we were a bit chilly. We hit 3 or four class 4 rapids but the water wasn't that high so the rapids weren't that fast or high, but we did get bumped around a lot!!

Our guide let us hit some rocks and fly off of them into the water. It was cool!!

About mid day we stopped for lunch. Each boat had a cooler with part of lunch in it. We made sandwiches and ate potato salad, pasta salad, and had chips and 5 layer bean dip. It was yummy and we got to watch other boats coming down another set of rapids. The rocks in front of us were called the "Meat Grinder" because if you got into those, you weren't going to look too good when you came out. This was where the last commercial rafting trip death occured :( .

At one point we were able to get out and swim for about a mile. I was the first one out of hte boat and into the water. It felt so good!!! I swam so long that when it was time to get back in the boat I didn't have the strength to help pull myself back into the boat. :rotfl:

We rafted under the 886 foot tall New River Gorge Bridge. That is an awesome structure from underneath.

Finally, we got out of the water, 7 miles from where we started. We took the boats out of the water and hiked a bit up the hill to our bus. Once on the bus they had a cooler filled with Pabst Blue Ribbon :sad2: beer to drink on the bus on the way back to the base camp. They also had soda's for those of us not drinking beer! (I guess there is no open container law in WV!)

Once back at basecamp we all made mad dashes to the showers to warm up and get out of our wet suits. (and to grab some better beer!! :teeth: ).

Dinner was at 5pm and it was bbq. It tasted pretty good, not great, but as hungry as I was, it could have been a rawhide and I would have eaten it.

That night we sat around the fire and talked about the trip. PITA wanted to complain about how she was thrown in the water and how it made her wet and cold and she didn't like it :confused3 . Uh okay. I'm pretty patient but by the end of the weekend with her I understand why people have problems with her!!

I could not sleep at all on Saturday night. There were rocks and things under neath me and I couldn't get comfortable and it wasn't that great. Apparently, when you sleep on the ground without the assistance of the spirits you notice all the lumps in the ground!! :lmao: :lmao: Note to self...bring air mattress or drink more the second night!!

Sunday:
Woke up around 6:45 on sunday morning and we right to cleaning up and packing up. It had rained all night so everything was wet and difficult to pack up but we got it.

Breakfast was at 8 and so we all headed that way and had breakfast. Same type of eggs, bacon, and potatoes but for some reason they tasted much better today than they did yesterday!! :rotfl: not sure why!!

We were on the road by 8:45 and this time the drive was a little faster. We stopped once to put gas in the car and then once for lunch. After that we drove and didn't stop until we got home! When we stopped for gas Bill threatened to throw PITA out of his car on the side of the highway. Apparently it didn't matter what anyone said in the car but she had to add her own thoughts...to EVERY word spoken in the car. Usually her comments were negative so they were a little over her!!

But here I am today and have survived. I really can't wait to do it again.

Elaine...I will let you know when we go again. The brochure I have says that it takes 6 hours to get there from Clevland and 4.5 hours from Columbus. I think it would be great to do a yaya raft event!!

I only have two pictures becasue I couldn't take my camera on the boat but we got some professional pictures taken by someone on the banks (and then sold to us for an ungodly amount of money!!) As soon as I have time to scan them in I will post them.

:lmao: :lmao: Actually I ditched the mom jeans the minute I got there!!

I replaced them with baggy sweat pants!! :lmao: Now if that doesn't say Mom I don't know what does!!

Thanks for the report! popcorn::

So you were a virgin until some 22 year old guy got you all wet, but then afterwards you pointed your finger at him to ward him off?

However, you were still awarded a "blue ribbon"?

I'm just making sure I got the story right. :)

Tara - Sounds like you had quite an adventure. When I was MUCH younger, I used to enjoy white water rafting, the first time in West Virginia at Ohiopyle, and the other two times on the Kern River in Northern California. If you end up going to WV again, you might consider a side trip to see Fallingwater, a famous home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It's worth the effort and you won't have to deal with PITA or getting wet.

In my three rafting trips, I never once fell out of a raft. I did, however, make the mistake of voluntarily exitting the raft once to try swimming through one of the rapids. The mistake was that I found it nearly impossible to haul my sorry body back into the raft before we got into some serious white water.

Thanks for sharing. It brings back a lot of good memories.

Boys spent the night at BIL & SIL's last night and are staying again tonight. :bounce: The house is sooo quiet with them gone.

Lily, thanks. :) Its hard to believe I'll have 2 high schoolers in the fall. :faint: Glad you got your DVD project done. :bounce:

Betty, your DD looks beautiful. :) I love her dress.

Elaine, door looks great. :thumbsup2

Tara, sounds like a fun rafting trip! :teeth:

Tara, sounds like an awesome trip!!!! And 4.5 hours away is really close. We could have a great time there! Just making a note to bring an airmattress myself :p

Lily, I made up for the no sleep this morning. I kind of slept in! Oh and sorry I left y'all alone this afternoon. I had to take a friend to the doctor.

Betty, our house is a light gray with black gutters. It does look pretty cute I think.
As for the dress, it must look a little lighter in my pic, because I thought itw as just a hair darker than the one she had last year. Though I noticed it was a lot more "sleek" and definitely an older cut IMO. She still looks like a princess. I remember some of hte earlier pics you had of her from homecoming and the like. She sure has grown up!

Alan  You are so bad!!!!!!

John, I still think you are young enough to go rafting. I say you join us when we have the Ya Ya rafting meet :p

Sherry, enjoy the time with out the boys. I bet that is awesome for you :)

Hi Alan, haven't seen that movie, but the community in which I work put on a family evening. It is a great opportunity and fun for sure. I don't even have to work it, just enjoy.

Tara, great report. PITA is lucky she didn't get held under for sure. Looking forward to your pics.

TC, you wouldn't do a little Ya Ya raft trip? I can't imagine why not. pirate:

Nephew just left. I gave him the video disk and another disk with all of the pics we had to pick from. We will have those quietly scrolling on slide show after the video part and I know it will be great! Now we just need to keep it a secret until THE day. Nephew cried again as he saw the finished product. I guess he liked it.

It is rigatoni for dinner.

A Ya Ya raft trip?.....hmmmmmm

Back from knitting :) had a nice night out really.

I talked to Luis and he said he would love to go on the rafting trip too... as long as he could be the shirtless rafting guide! Any complaints?

I hear that many are still having trouble with the DIS. If it were simply just slow boards I would move us, but I hate moving when people say they can't post, read or even get to PMs. If it doesn't improve by the end of the week, I will move no matter what.

I think we will be on the island of Castaway Cay... then we can go cruising after :teeth: Maybe hit WDW after :rolleyes1

woohoo!! a nekkid yaya!! woohoo!!!! Come on baby!!

John...I know the problem with getting the butt back in the boat. Thank goodness we had the one guy that could haul our butts out of the water. Although I believe the last time I lost an ear because he yanked so hard my life vest pulled up and grabbed my ear!! But hey I have a second one so it's not too bad!!

A yaya rafting meet!! Cool!! I'll let you know when we get the next one scheduled. I think that would be too cool!!!!

Betty, I knew I couldn't see the pic from school cuz I can't see most pics at school, but I can't see it from home either :(

Okay, i'm off to bed. I finally caught up on Desperate Housewives so the kids ended up staying up too late. Therefore, it is past my bedtime!!

only 4 more school days left!! woohoo!!!
