Wedding dresses

Wow such pretty dressed. I get my dress next week. Although I am a little sad because I amspretty sure I am the only 20 year old who has a dress with sleeves, lol, but it was important to my mom, so i was willing to have some small sleeves lol.

Dont worry. I'm only 21 and i really like a lot of the dresses with cap sleeves or maybe just a different neckline. Everyone seems to do strapless, so it makes it a little more unique!

That is very true. Thanks for making me feel better it is a really pretty dress

ACWINSETT:

I saw this exact dress on display at the Grand Floridian this summer! It is so beautiful! I fell in love with it instantly! It's from Kirstie Kelly right? Glad you found it at a discount because I know it was a pretty penny when I looked it up:thumbsup2

Oh my gosh, I KNOW! My DF were walking through the GF lobby and I saw this. I had to catch myself before I let out a very LARGE gasp right there. I played it cool, though . . . :rolleyes1

(I took these photos really quick when he was in the bathroom . . . . he he he)

I'm 22 and I insisted on long flowing sleeves as I think they are very romantic. I'm also not a huge fan of strapless as I'm always fidgiting to ensure I keep my dignity

I'm sure you'll look stunning in your dress. :flower3:

I'm only 21 too and my dress has sleeves! I just wouldn't feel comfortable without them!!

My dress is nearly done! We're adding some lace around the neckline, and we're also adding black beads and sequins to the pleats in the skirt... There's a fab green beaded bow on the back too.... I love it so much!

I really wanted long sleeves on a renaissance type dress. I think our wedding is going to have a beauty and the beast, medieval feel. This is the type of dress I really liked...

Your dress is coming along really well. It's so cute!

I'm getting ready to go dress shopping. Just wondering where you all bought your dresses? Did many of you use Davids Bridal? I'm thinking of looking there.. as they have awesome prices and a huge selection. But I wasn't sure how they worked. This is my 2nd wedding and the first time I went to a really fancy shop and spent 1500 on my dress.. this time around we don't have quite the help we did back then from family. So we are trying to save. Only thing I was kinda concerned about was... does Davids Bridal hold the dress for you if you need them to? I have over 8 months til my wedding and I want to get it picked out.. but I don't know where I would store it. The place I went to before was a small place.. they held it all the way until I had it altered 2 weeks before the wedding and then they held it til my wedding day. The shop held it for almost a year. And I'm just curious what you all thought of them. I'm wanting to spend less than $500 this time. I want something beautiful, and traditional but simple. You guys have given me some great ideas with all the pics!!

I bought my dress at Alfred Angelo, they only hold dresses for 10 days, after that they are restocked.

I believe David's Bridal has a similar policy.

You could definitely find a dress for $500 or under st Davids. Mine was on sale and was regularly almost $700 and I got it for $425 at Alfred Angelo, I was prepared to spend a lot more!

I got my dress from David's Bridal, and they didn't hold mine - I'm not sure it was because it was an "as is" dress versus one that's ordered or if it's because they didn't do any alterations. I'm not sure if they could hold it for you if you needed that to be done, but they didn't offer and I didn't ask. Mine's hanging in a hard-to-access part of my closet in a bag. You may be able to get a nice dress for under $500, but it's hard not to get caught up on the dresses that aren't in your price range. I'm not a small gal, so the dresses in my size that were available were mostly above my price range. That was just MY experience, and I'm sure you will probably get a lot of different input from the other brides on the Board. Good luck in your search!

Another thing you can do is visit regular bridal boutiques and then search for the style you like online at a cheaper price. For example, you can usually find tons of Maggie Sottero dresses for much cheaper on eBay. I didn't like the quality of fabric and workmanship offered by David's or the shopping experience there. So I found a $1,300 dress I liked at a snooty boutique and then searched for it on eBay — and got it for $500.

Regarding storage, you will almost certainly need to have your gown steamed on or before your wedding day, so you may as well keep it folded up in a box until then.

I finally finished my ceremony gown and jacket last week! Our wedding has a 1930s feel to it, so it's meant to be "vintage" in appearance. The gown is silk charmeuse while the jacket is silk velvet. I'm so glad to have it done (so I can put it in the closet and not have to worry about it for three months!)

I got mine at David's Bridal. I really only went there to figure out what I did and didn't like before going to another bridal store. I ended up putting on a very simple dress and I fell in love. I bought it. It was $300 during the $99 sale. (Reg $350) It had to be special ordered because I wanted it without the train.
My only concern with buying from DB is that if they have it on the rack in your size the give you that one, so you may end up with a dress a bunch of people have tried on.
David's Bridal doesn't hold your dress. My wedding dress has been sitting in my closet since July and I don't get married until next September. It hasn't been an issue as of yet. I did buy the white storage bag for $10 rather then storing it in plastic.
You can also get good deals on ebay. I had looked at ebay before buying my dress, but being a size 4 it was very hard to find anything that wasn't "custom made" from China.

That dress is gorgeous! You look fantastic in it!

I totally get the vintage feel looking at it.

WOW - you made that? Gorgeous!

I also got mine from DB. They definitely don't hold it... I had mine for over a year and a half. But we got the bag and a white bed sheet. As long as you wrap it in the sheet and then put it in the bag like they say, there won't be a problem. IDK about other people (another poster said they will give you it off the rack if it is in your size) but that wasn't the case for me. I tried it on it my size adn then they ordered me a new one. The only time I wouldnt have been able to order a new one is if it was an "as is" dress.

i've just heard a lot of negative stories about DB... what were your experiences like there?

I worked at David's bridal when I was in college. It is meant to be an off-the-rack store, so if they have it in your size, you're supposed to buy that one. Different stores enforce this more or less. We did order dresses for brides but the consultant is really supposed to push you go buy the one in stock if there is nothing wrong with it. They definitely do not hold dresses, there really is not the space to hold them.

There are also websites specifically for brides selling their dresses, some are used, but there are a lot of brides that just changed their minds and the dress still has tags and everything, so that could be another option for you.

I went to 2 stores and had 4 different consultants.
My first one was horrible, didn't listen to what I wanted and kept bringing me things I said no to.

My 2nd one was a different store and was amazing. If the store was more convent I would have ordered from there.

My 3rd visit was for a party dress and it didn't go to well. I was told I could only try things on in my size and they didn't have a lot and she kept suggesting that I eat more. (I think a total of 4 dresses in colors I was looking at) I also looked a veil and headpieces during this visit and the consultant got "not so nice" that I wanted something they didn't sell, and that if they didn't sell it I wouldn't find it anywhere else.

My 4th visit was amazing. I got a great consultant (of course at this point I had talked to corporate about my 1st and 3rd visits) she was so helpful I had in my mind the dress from my first visit, but she did bring me a couple others just in case. They were great dresses and I felt I looked good in them, but they were a bit to embellished for me. She was there when I went back to pick up my dress and she was so helpful looking a veils and headpieces. She even went to check the back to see if they had any other style veils since they didn't have what I wanted.

My 1st, 3rd, and 4th visits were to the same store.
I will say my friend also visited the same David's Bridal and she had great visits. She even visited a location in Illinois to help her other bridesmaids pick out dresses and she said the experience was great.
