Weather can affect Disney Dream Castaway

I'm gonna dive in and read all 7 pages...I'll be back

Okay, the 50 Shades of Gray turn at the end was certainly unexpected. Don't think I can add anything of value, but like with most things in life education/research and realistic expectations go a long way in determining how much we get out of something.

In my opinion, the most amazing thing I read in the entire thread was that someone has cruised DCL 31 times. :earseek: For a cruise line that started in '96, thats ALOT of cruises in general, specifically one cruise line. That extremely impressive.

Exactly what did you expect them to do if the ship wasn't able to dock because the captain considered it unsafe? Tender passengers to CC in the lifeboats maybe, when it was established even the LARGE ship couldn't dock, put the passengers in danger just so they can go to a beach? They are under no obligation to provide a comparable experience and sometimes it is just not possible. In general there is no special compensation for missing a port. That is part of cruising. Sometimes you can nab trip insurance that will pay a claim for missing a port, maybe look into that before you cruise again.

I've been on three cruises that missed CC and it never occurred to me to ask for compensation from DCL or even to try to find a way to consider it DCL's fault that they couldn't dock. Yes each time there were legions of disappointed passengers.

That cruise critic review...she was most upset because her sister was brokenhearted at not being able to take a bucket of shells off Castaway Cay. Isn't it relatively well known that you cannot take shells or any flora/fauna off Castaway Cay? It's posted, isn't it? And then she makes this long argument about how they SHOULD be allowed to take shells.

She also doesn't seem to understand that balloons are not available or permitted onboard. I think she would have hated any cruise she was on.

NerdyDad I certainly feel for you but you have to understand that you signed an agreement with the line that clearly states that the ports can change. If you had any shoreside excursions planned, they always will refund those and even port taxes if applicable. However, even with all their power, Disney can not control the weather and sea conditions. While missing a port is a bummer it is not the end of the world and any day spent on a Disney Cruise ship is better than any day on shore anyway. Add to that, if the winds and sea conditions are so bad the ship can not dock, chances are you wouldn't enjoy CC anyway. My advice to anyone is that if you are cruising for the destinations, then don't. Book a flight so that you know you will get there. Any port, on any cruise, with any line is subject to change. The safety of the guests, crew and ship are more important than docking.

Disney Magic had her Maiden Voyage on July 30, 1998 and we were on it. It was our first cruise ever and I was hooked!!!!

Editing to add that there are some on this board who have way more DCL cruises than me!!

So Jealous;) We have been on 10 since 2008, and really wish we had found DCL sooner. They have been some of the best vacations/memories we have had to date:)

Although I didn't see this movie (no interest) I will say in a movie or tv show (especially one that is otherwise good - which I'm not claiming this is) I'll let things like this go. There are many things I dont' believe in movies and TV. I mean my all time favorite show is Doctor Who and I certainly don't believe that a time traveling alien who regenerates so he can change his face rides around in a blue police box saving the universe.

So if a story line required me to believe that someone never had a computer or email I could probably manage that for the sake of the show.

Wait? The Doctor isn't real? Thanks for ruining my hopes and dreams. :)

Remember: 50 Shades of Grey was originally Twilight slash fiction (look that up, but not on a work computer, if you don't know but are interested in what slash fiction is), so it was written to a lower common denominator than what a lot of people actually are.

Talk about thread drift... :jumping1:

I only vaguely know the 50 shades backstory but I don't think you mean slash?

It's been called slash by a lot of people, even though it doesn't involve members of the same sex. It's along the same lines. Pornographic fan fiction involving fictitious characters from Twilight.

Hmm, slash only meant one thing when I was involved in fanfic, sounds like 50 shades screwed that up too. :)

Even if you do manage to dock at CC, sometimes the day is still a wash (by some people's standards). We were completely rained out of our CC day - someone at the time said it was a tropical depression but all I can tell you is it was cool, windy and raining sideways the entire day. So what did we do? We went into the ocean (gonna get wet anyway!) poked around the shops, got a drink and then went back to the ship and played board games and watched movies. Of course we didn't spend a couple thousand dollars to go to the Bahamas to play a board game, and of course we were disappointed to miss out on our beach day that we had planned, but the point of all of this is (if OP is even still here? Forgive me for not reading 7 pages!) just that you have to deal with the day you're given! Disney can't control the weather, contrary to what some might believe ;)

That, and now I can use "but we didn't get to properly visit Castaway Cay!" as my main bargaining chip to book DCL again sooner rather than later ;)

Yet millions of women everywhere totally believed that a 21 year old college student in today's day and age had never had a computer or email in 50 Shades of Gray. lol
i can't believe anyone read that book! lol. I, like you, read about half (not quite but almost) and gave it up for the crap writing it was. i wanted my money and my time back. and can I say 'Oh, My'. :rolleyes1

now were really :offtopic:....hahaha

Yeah the character building was good then it died. I was in hawaii on vacation and needed something to read lol. So glad I only bought the first book on my kindle and NOT the whole trilogy.

One of the things I hated most about the character in 50 Shades is that she is 21 year old college student and has ONE friends. Ok also the guy friend who is in love with her. One friend. And she treats her like crap as soon as she starts dating Mr Grey.
