I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Hey all! Looking for thoughts/advice- I have 4 Chase Southwest airline cards between P2 and I. None of them have any balances but we have some debt we are carrying for a while. Therefore, I don’t want to outright close my SW cards, but maybe I could do a product change. (They’re raising their annual fees ridiculously high and taking away the useful benefits for us.)
If I were to do a product change, is there any way of taking advantage of a SUB?

Also, if I cancel and then reapply for a different Chase card, how negatively is my credit impacted by that? Would that flag anything with Chase? (I’m at 0/24)

Lastly, if you were to go between Hyatt Chase cards or the Hilton Chase, which would you choose? We’ve been in the Marriott world for a while and also looking at a change. (Have the Marriott Chase already).

Thanks for any opinions, advice, recommendations, etc

Hilton cards are issued by American Express only and Hyatt is Chase only.

Since I most likely will never achieve global status with Hyatt I would go with Hilton as they have a bigger footprint and you can generally buy points for pretty cheap to reduce your costs since the credit card gives you the option to get one night free when you stay 4 nights. Also the Hilton free night certificates if you get a card with one has no point restrictions.

The Hyatt card would be nice, but I can just transfer points from Chase ultimate rewards and basically get the same benefits again since I won’t have status with Hyatt. The Hyatt free night certificate are capped by categories and they have changed categories recently. Such as the MCO airport is now a category five so I can no longer use a category 1 to 4 night certificate there.

ummmmm what??? 60k SWA miles for Orlando???? is this on a date that's crazy high or the new norm? (I'm not using SWA much at all currently)
I’m not sure where they are flying from or the date, but for me ISP to MCO I have flights booked using between 3,000 and 10,000 points each way. Not flying around any holiday/school breaks

My DH and I each have a SW business and personal card. My strategy going forward is to cancel both our business cards when the AF comes due and keep our personal priority cards for the free checked bag and ability to book a preferred seat at booking.

Can’t get a SUB on a PC. If you wanted to cancel a personal card, need to wait 30 days to apply for the same one. Business cards you can have both, so you could apply for the one you don’t have to get a SUB

My 63,000 flight down is on a Friday during spring break but I just looked at a random Friday in June and it cost 37,000 so prices have certainly got up for my area. Part of the problem is none of the basic fairs are available. Only the top two. Seriously hoping they’ll release those soon so I can grab some points back.

There is one day in March…a Wednesday that we are looking at and it’s the same way just the top 2 fares showing up, I’ll keep looking but JB started flying ISP to MCO I booked them for that date. It’s nice to have another non stop option so I can book both airlines and have a back up plan

DH applied for the personal priority SW card to get the CP in January. For now, we plan on one of us keeping the card at all times because they are our best option for flying out of STL. With the checked bags and ability to pick seat at booking, it seems worth it to me at this time.

anyone have a DP? I'm Hilton Diamond. It costs 180k points for 3 nights hotel in Krakow. Thru URs it's only 63k for same 3 nights. it shows up on "my trips" since I entered my Hilton number. it says business travel. will I still get breakfast and possible upgrade?

also, looking to book train travel. Warsaw-Krakow and Krakow-Budapest (chopin overnight). I've come across several 3rd partry sites. is there one anyone here has used and recommends?

thanks

My DH has wanted to get a room on Amtrak for a long time just for the experience. But flying us always faster and cheaper. Maybe I'll get some Amtrak points so that at least the cost won't be part of the decision next time
Yes, it can definitely look more expensive than a flight or two, but you do have your car when you get there. The fee card is elevated to 40k for 2K spend right now. The no fee is 12k for 1k spend, if I remember correctly and I could be wrong on that. I personally haven't seen any huge sub's for Amtrak.

Checked Amtrak.com and my info above is correct. Offer ends 12/16.

My prediction is you will see some price dropping eventually. I checked DCA and BWI to MCO in January and prices are high for everything. I once flew kids and grands out of BWI (4 people) for 1750 points each. That is gone but these high points will also be gone. No one will take off work and school for more than a day or two, but maybe for a weekend, thursday evening flight to sunday evening. No plans for this, just looking at possibilities.
