We Got The Mouse to Pay for Our Disney Feasts! w/PICS! REPORT COMPLETED!

And everyone is skipping ahead of me...

Yes, we'll get to 1900 eventually ...so stay tuned for that. :goodvibes

Yes, I'll get to Tusker House, but before that I'll do stuff that dsil doesn't really have much to contribute to anyway... :p

Food & Wine booth - Krakow, Poland

(after lunch at Tutto Italia)

Unfortunately, with various sicknesses floating around, we didn't have a lot of time to sample all the wonderful uses of snack credits around the World Showcase during the Food & Wine festival.

After db left lunch, dsil took baby and fled to MK, but Grandmom, the bigger boys, and I stuck around Epcot. The boys started getting into doing the masks at the Kidcot Fun Stops and getting charms from each country, and Little Guy took a little siesta in the stroller, but I saw that Krakow, Poland booth and had to stop.

See, my best friend has been living in Poland for the past year and a half, so anything Polish reminds me of her... and I love kielbasa. :upsidedow

These were the offerings:

IMG_2668.jpg

But even with a full tummy from Tutto, I split one kielbasa/pierogie plate with my mother, which used up one snack credit...

IMG_2669.jpg

I liked the kielbasa... but I suppose I don't have very high standards eating store bought stuff here in the states... I have had the real stuff, in great varieties back when I went to Poland myself in 2001, but it's been a while, so again, I don't think I'm a good judge of that.

The onions were pretty good.

The pierogie was forgettable... not great, but not terrible...

My only real complaint is the pathetic portion. My mom and I each had one bite of kielbasa, one bite of onions, and one bite (half) of the pierogie. I would never have paid $5 OOP for that! That would've been a rip off! Just a few steps back and we could've gotten lefse for $1.99 that would've given us twice as many bites for less than half that price! I was glad I had superfluous snack credits to use!

We really didn't use enough snack credits throughout the trip... mostly because we were either too sick or too full, plus we had all the credits from hubby since he left early. Had our situation been different though, I'd have tried more stuff at the F&W booths.

All-Star Movies Food Court

Dinner

That night we just stuck with the food court at our resort. Although I think my db might have joined us, I don't see pics of food for him, so I'm guessing he was looking more for company than food.

Dsil had a make-your-own salad... see?

IMG_2685.jpg

Big surprise... I know... I can even tell you what she'd say about it!

"I fell in love with the make your own salad bar. It was a traditional let them make a chopped salad bar, with unlimited ingredients allowed including meats and cheeses. I really loved loved loved it and got it every opportunity I could when we went to the Food court."

I'm good, aren't I, dsil? ;)

Big Guy got a cheeseburger... one of his favorite foods. He always enjoys burgers... and this meal was no exception.

IMG_2686.jpg

I don't see anything for Little Guy in my pictures, but I have a feeling he was starting to get feel a little sick himself. There were a few times I just gave him some applesauce that I had brought along from home. This was probably one of those times.

Grandmom had a double bacon cheeseburger... with pickles. She said it hit the spot. I say, "Pickles? Blech..."

IMG_2687.jpg

I decided to branch out and have something different for a change of pace... I got chicken quesadillas... with a side of fries... normally I don't think fries really "go" with quesadillas, but I think I was enjoying my french fry overload this trip, since normally, at home, I don't go near them.

IMG_2688.jpg

I thought this was nice for a change of pace. Not outstanding, but nice. It was really pretty basic - cheese, chicken, tortilla... not overflowing with special sauces and various veggies like other places, but sometimes keeping things simple is nice!

We were entitled to desserts, though I don't see pictures... I'm pretty sure that this is the time that my mom and I got milkshakes. I loooooove cookies and cream milkshakes, so that's exactly what I got... and I looooooved it! I loved that I could have it as my dessert on the dining plan. In July, POFQ let me get a shake as dessert on the DDP (which is where I first learned I could do this), but this trip POFQ would no longer let me get a shake for dessert on the dining plan, so I had to stick with just a bowl of ice cream instead. I don't know what the policy is at different resorts... it appears to vary somewhat.

My mom got a strawberry shake. She thought it was good, but rich, and too much for after everything else she had eaten this particular day. Too much of a good thing, I suppose... who knew it was possible? (Ok, anyone on dining plans in Disney World probably knows this on a very personal level...)

Now... I'm pretty sure there's nothing else to sneak up on us before my Tusker House breakfast review... which I will get to some time in the future (that could be hours or days... so goes my unpredictable schedule). So stay tuned for Donald's Safari Breakfast... my take (since dsil already rushed into her simplified version... it's not really as bad as she may have made it sound)...

Tusker House

Donald's Safari Breakfast

October 1, 2009

We had an early breakfast at Tusker House... before park opening. I like getting a head start on a day! :thumbsup2

While we waited, the boys did what apparently all the kids did there... took out their toy cars and played with them on a low wall...

IMG_2692.jpg

Glad to know that even though we weren't all together, we were all on the same page. :goodvibes

We took a picture outside with Donald.

IMG_2693.jpg

This was different then our July trip when it was just a family picture outside and Donald was inside with the other characters. This time we only saw Donald outside, but the other characters remained inside.

Here's dsil with the boys and Mickey inside.

IMG_2702.jpg

Here we all are with Goofy.

IMG_2710.jpg

We also saw Daisy, which is nice since she can be hard to find sometimes. When you've got kids watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse though, they expect to be able to find her too!

IMG_2714.jpg

Now, we've gotta move into the yummies...

Of course, dsil wasn't too impressed, as she has already stated. Here's her plate...

IMG_2694.jpg

Carb City... that's my dsil! Personally, I don't know why one would waste valuable tummy space at a buffet breakfast with toast, but to each her own, I suppose!

This is a sample of the kids' plates. Big Guy also got a mixture of cereals with milk on the side.

IMG_2695.jpg

Little Guy had the same without cereal, but plus some fruit on his plate. Sorry, I wasn't able to get a picture of that though. Both boys were particularly fond of the donut. Imagine that...

This was my first plate...

IMG_2696.jpg

I didn't care for the egg thing with the red vegetables in it. I did, however, really enjoy the ham and cheese quiche, and I found the sausages very tasty and juicy. There is also a dish that kinda looks like a cross between creamed corn and grits and something else... whatever that was, I enjoyed it too. Everything else is what it is... nothing else really stood out as either particularly good or bad.

I had the jambo juice, but I really don't like a flavor in it... either passion fruit or guava. So I was able to get a diet coke instead.

Sorry that I didn't get pictures of my mom's or brother's plates... but my mom and I have similar tastes so hers looked a lot like mine.

I did get a picture of my second plate, however...

IMG_2712.jpg

Since I loved the sausage, I had to get more of that. The hash wasn't the best... I think they put peppers in it, and I didn't care for it. The egg-looking thing is some type of African dish, but I didn't care for the spice in it. I can't remember having cheese blintzes before, so I tried one here... I didn't care for it (possibly because I may just not be a cheese blintz kind of person), but the appley stuff on top was good.

And of course, I had to save room for dessert...

IMG_2713.jpg

Bread pudding with vanilla sauce... this I love! :lovestruc

And Grandmom got another birthday cupcake, along with a card signed by all the characters...

IMG_2711.jpg

Overall, it's not the best breakfast buffet, but there are highlights to the meal. It's beneficial to already be in the park, right by the safari early in the day, and the kids like eating with the characters. (Little Guy is particularly fond of Donald.)

My favorite breakfast buffet remains Crystal Palace, but I'm not opposed to doing Tusker House again.

Okay so DSIL reminded me more of our Breakfast at Tusker House. It was very forgettable to me. I just remembered being very disappointed.

Pros-
The Jungle Juice was great! I really enjoyed that a lot.
It's a breakfast buffet, how hard is it to screw up breakfast? LOL.
We really got a nice family photo here! I don't have that one DSIL! I'm going to steal it from here.
They had Krispy Kreme Donuts! YUM!

Cons-
They didn't have an Egg bar like CP had. (Hense why I got Toast to go with my eggs DSIL! I can't stand stock runny scrambled eggs, and all of the other egg things had meats in them that I don't eat. So I was stuck with runny scrambled eggs)

The selection just seemed very limited as compared to other places. Including dessert. Crystal Palace had great desserts. Here not so much, except for the donuts!

...ok, so Queen Elizabeth here needed toast to make the runny eggs (they weren't really runny) more pallatable for her finnicky taste...

anyhoo...

Snacking in AK

We had a buffet breakfast and were gonna have a buffet dinner, so at various points we all chose some snacks mid-day to keep our engines going but not stuff ourselves...

While dsil and db took their nephew (Big Guy) on Kali, my mom and I sat with Little Guy and Baby while they napped... we decided we needed drinks (hot day) and some sustenance...

So I got us two large diet cokes (I remembered to ask for large! Medium and large drinks are each one snack credit, so might as well get large!) ...and two egg rolls from the Yak & Yeti CS (two eggrolls = 1 snack credit).

IMG_2772.jpg

Hit the spot! Just what we needed. Those egg rolls came out hot though, so we had to wait a bit to eat those...

Later on dsil and db had a cream cheese stuffed jalapeno pretzel...

IMG_2775.jpg

...and here we tried to get a picture of it broken open...

IMG_2776.jpg

I tried a piece and liked it. I might even get it some time in the future. This strikes me as my db and dsil though... they like to get stuff with spice to it.

I got the boys some cool treats to get through the hot day too...

IMG_2795.jpg

IMG_2796.jpg

Little Guy didn't finish his Mickey ice cream sandwich, and I tried and couldn't have more than a few bites either... not that it was bad though! It was tasty! Some kind of bug was starting to effect the way both of us were feeling and eating... :sad2:

Soon we hopped on a bus to the Grand Floridian... it was getting close to our ADR time at 1900 Park Fare...

1900 Park Fare

Dinner

October 1, 2009

I recall waiting for a while to get into 1900 Park Fare... doo doo doo do do doo doo doo... (that's the Jeopardy theme song in case you couldn't tell ;)).

We did a lot before hand though... like empty the mountain of sand outta the kid's shoes from the Boneyard at AK... finding about 50 hidden Mickeys in the GF lobby... db and dsil signed up for the Disney Vacation Club... ok, slight exaggerations... but db and dsil did inquire about DVC... yep... they even gave them MY name and contact information for follow up... so I got a phone call a month later about the time I stopped at the DVC info booth at the GF... ...boy was I confused!

Ok, refocusing now... we got our picture taken right before we went in for our meal... big surprise... they wanted us to buy a picture at a character meal... what a unique idea... if it's $1, I'll consider it... $30+... not a chance... thank you very much...

In we went... I felt like the restaurant was much smaller than what I expected... and I felt like the tables were particularly close together.

It was Cinderella characters for dinner... not our primary choice for having three young boys with us, but we thought we'd check out the food.

Ironically, I ended up getting more pictures of characters than food!

This one was quite the character...

IMG_2821.jpg

Even my mother got a kick outta her! She really played the part!

I just love the expressions in this one...

IMG_2823.jpg

I don't think Baby was very happy! :lmao:

And you'll have to realize that Little Guy was gradually slipping into his feeling under the weather, so there weren't many of those big, bright smiles as before.

And of course, Cinderella herself...

IMG_2824.jpg

As far as food goes, I felt like the selection was somewhat limited.

Here's my plate...

IMG_2820.jpg

I didn't even finish everything as I was not feeling right either. The meat was good (would've been better had I felt better). Bread and butter (yes, butter... of course!) was really hitting the spot tonight... though I didn't like the crusty outer part. I vaguely remember liking some chicken. The chilled strawberry soup, I will say, was particularly good!

I don't really want to say too much else as my tastes were a little off.

One nice thing was that when I start feeling under the weather, I start craving clear and fruity sodas... and I was able to get a Shirley Temple as my drink on the DDP.

You can see Big Guy in the background of my food pic, eating pizza and bread... what an amazing spread... Little Guy's wasn't much better... he ate grapes and bread. Had we not been on the free DDP, I would've flipped paying those dinner prices for the kids' meals.

By the end of the meal, I wasn't even feeling much like dessert, and with my stomach starting to turn, I didn't even want to take pictures of anything else... sorry!

I'm glad I tried 1900, but I don't think I will be returning... maybe some time I will try breakfast for a different experience, but I won't be returning for dinner. If we had girls that were into Cinderella, I'd be more likely to return though - less expensive (money- and DDP credit- wise) than actually going to the castle for a meal.

Now is where I think I can rightly complain. I had attached a special anniversary celebration to this reservation - dsil and db celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary just two weeks before this... I didn't remember seeing anything happen with this!

So, dsil, I tried... I tried to incorporate your husband's birthday at Tutto... that flopped... then I tried to incorporate your anniversary... that flopped too... and then I was too sick to try to reschedule those things. Doh!

At least Grandmom had some fun celebrations this trip.

If I remember correctly this was the day that DSIL's Little guy and my Baby Bear got really sick. They both slept most of the day away, and had a fever towards the afternoon. We had tried to take Baby back to the room before dinner to try and cool him down, but got stuck at the Jammin Jungle parade. His fever broke fairly quickly and we decided to hit dinner anyway.

I'll start 1900 Park Fare off for us. (Okay I guess DSIL and I were on the same page today, and she beat me to it)

1900 Park Fare was one of my choices, and apparently I didn't do my due diligence. Princess Buffet with three little boys! How I missed that fact, I will have no clue, but I chose it because of some good dining reviews I had read. I was all about buffets trying to be a fru-gal girl not paying for baby's meals. All I have to say is that the boys were not all that thrilled. Big guy was quite cute though learning how to be a prince!

PA010812.jpg

I was quite rude to some of the sisters! I mean they are Cinderella's step sisters and all! One of them still posed with me and Baby though!

PA010817.jpg

I don't really remember much about the food. I know Baby ate mostly pasta.

I started off with a big salad from the salad bar. I know DSIL and Grandmom laugh at me for getting salad at a buffet, but I was watching what I was eating a little, and wanted to fill up on some greens to keep myself from the dessert table.

I also had a big bowl of soup. I believe it was a corn chowder, but I don't remember exactly off the top of my head. I don't think it was very good just looking at the picture.

I can guess looking over the menu again that I probably avoided all meat, and made a main meal out of pasta and other carb-o-holic things as DSIL would say. It was probably the EXACT opposite of what was on DSIL's plate!

All in all, I wasn't really impressed. If you want a Princess meal, then it is more normal food then Norway (Sorry DSIL!), but it was just normal every day food, and nothing special at all.

And make sure to behave here, because the Evil step mother is always lurking around!]
PA010816.jpg

DSIL Don't worry at all about the celebrations! We had a wonderful time all around this week!

enjoying your updates. Sorry to hear the boys were not feeling well...the baby and the little guy. We were too disappointed at 1900 Park Fare. I thought they did not have much of a selection and the food wasn't that good. We did enjoy the characters...Cinderella came over to our table and asked my son then just turned 3 to dance with her...he did and it was a video/camera moment. I would never come back for the food. 1900 Park Fare breakfast has better food selection and they have eggs made to order.

I'm going to bow out of the Chef Mickey Review. I really didn't get to enjoy this meal at all.

Baby Bear needed to leave the restaurant at the very beginning of the meal with DH to get the stroller. He was very tired, and getting cranky. I wound up getting one plate of food and then went to look for them because they were missing for a good 20-30 minutes.

Turned out that Baby got really sick, and threw up all over DH and himself. I went in search of new clothes for the two of them, and missed the rest of the meal as I was running errands, cleaning clothes in the bathroom, and trying to figure out if Baby was really sick, and if I needed to take him to a doctor somewhere (Swine flu was running around in my head now). Luckily a really long good night sleep, and he was fever and throw up free the next day.

So no review of Chef Mickey for me! :(

Hey, I know Norway went downhill food-wise (based on reviews, not experience) when the princesses came...

I also know that you, dear Queen Elizabeth, don't typically venture into proper Northern European flavors... so no, these flavors may not be "normal" to you.

I will, however, agree that most would probably prefer dinners at 1900 PF over lunch or dinner at Akershus... I don't know enough about the breakfasts yet to compare.

Of course I don't care to pay particular attention too much to princess meals... there's so much else in Disney to enjoy. :goodvibes

So it does sound like we should at least give 1900 PF a try for breakfast in the future... we'll see... I'm sure at some point we will try this. Eggs made to order is a nice feature.

This was quite the interesting night, wasn't it?

I remember my brother describing the situation so calmly. He got out of the restaurant and Baby just threw up all over the two of them. My brother describes just standing there covered in puke, holding his son in the middle of the Contemporary, trying to think rationally about what steps he should take next...

Soooo describes my brother. He's so methodical and logical.

Not my dsil...

I'll never forget you telling my brother "I'm so glad it happened to you because as soon as he puked on me, I would've just dropped him!"

That's my dsil... a bit more of an emotional individual than a logical one... :lmao:

For the record, I'm glad it happened to my brother too!

Ok... before we get started here, let's take a quick pick at my lunch...

IMG_2855.jpg

Ahhh... ribs... yes, I was feeling a bit better... more myself today. Ribs, string beans, and mashed potatoes from Cosmic Ray's - great meal... :thumbsup2

Ok... now back on track...

Chef Mickey's

Dinner

October 2, 2009

First of all, even if she doesn't remember it because of future events, dsil did enjoy the start to our Chef Mickey's evening...

Here she is, excited to point out that we had a view of Cinderella Castle from our table...

IMG_2911.jpg

She also got some time with characters...

IMG_2917.jpg

IMG_2920.jpg

Baby also started out fairly well... preferring to stuff his face with pasta instead of pay attention to Minnie...

IMG_2913.jpg

Of course, our pictures will lack here as db and dsil didn't get to enjoy much, and were a bit preoccupied with Baby gradually growing crankier and sicker.

Nevertheless, here's my first trip up... with the corn bread and orange off to the corner being meant for Little Guy who still didn't have the best of appetites.

IMG_2912.jpg

And I actually got some salad here too! (I did at 1900 as well... guess I actually was making some attempt at eating some good stuff...)

My second plate was more memorable, as I love the beef and the parmesan mashed potatoes here. Love them! :cloud9:

IMG_2918.jpg

Oh... and they let me have a Shirley Temple here too! :thumbsup2

Unfortunately, I never moved on to dessert... my mom said she watched me grow paler and paler through the meal... while my brother and dsil were out dealing with sick Baby... and Little Guy was looking just tired and not well and in need of bed...(me)(Little Guy)(Baby)

What a bunch we were... still needing to get back to MK before we could catch a bus back to ASMo!

At least, once again, my mother had fun... before her family fell apart!

IMG_2922.jpg

so sorry your family got sick during your trip...funny post about your Dsil comment if she is the one holding the baby and baby getting sick...hoping you guys get a 24hour bug and hope to read you guys are getting better sooner than later.

We were kinda up and down a little bit...

My poor brother though... he had already just had the bug... now he was just getting over that and his son takes over... Baby was a bit cranky at Chef Mickey's... something was bothering him.

Little Guy ended up throwing up either blueberry or pommegranate applesauce on the bed at one point it was probably some time around this point in our trip... all a bit of a blur... but after Little Guy threw up, he was about 99% better!

I can't remember when Baby perked up, but I know he did by the end of the trip.

I went downhill this night though. The ENTIRE next day I stayed in the room by myself while everyone else went to Epcot.

So... dsil, you'll have to continue this dining report... I unfortunately did not make it to Le Cellier... that's how sick I was... the one who called up precisely 90 days in advance and watched the official atomic clock time to call at precisely 7:00:00am EST and ask for Le Cellier as soon as the CM answered the phone... this is the person who missed this dinner... :sad1:

Yes DSIL what a trip this was from beginning to end. I was really looking forward to Chef Mickey! It was my most looked forward to buffet of the week. Oh well, maybe next time.

I do also remember saying that I would have dropped him! I'm NOT a puke person at all! UGH.

As for my family, Baby was MUCH better after he yacked. He was 100% the next day in Epcot!

Little guy was still a bit under the weather the next day.

I'm sad we're getting down to the end of this report! I've had a lot of fun doing it. I guess that means that we have to go back huh?

Does Mickey have ears?
Does Donald have feathers??
Do I love ribs and gnocchi???

YES!!! :goodvibes

So sorry about the delay! We've had a bit of snow, and have been enjoying playing in it. As I sit here tonight watching the Olympic opening ceremonies, and hearing "O Canada" I suddenly remembered that I had a dining review of Le Cellier to do! LOL. So here we go on the second to last dining report for this trip.

As DSIL alluded to she spent this day at EPCOT taking her turn in the sick ward. Grandmom, DH and I took the three kids off on our own this day. Little guy was still feeling a bit under the weather, and slept a lot of the day in a Disney stroller. DH, Big Guy, Baby and myself had left Little guy and Grandmom sitting under a tree napping (Grandmom had a book with her :) ) and we went off to try to get Big guy a full charm mask. We reconvened about 20 minutes before our ADR and went to go check in. The wait was outrageous even with our ADR (I think we finally got seated 30-45 minutes after our ADR time. So again we left Grandmom and Little guy and explored WS some more.
PA030858.jpg

We finally got seated and at this point Baby had fallen into a deep sleep. I had to say I was QUITE relieved because DH and I are big steak people, and Baby turns his nose up to it, so I was planning on using TIW and ordering him his own meal. So with him sleeping I figured I'd use a snack credit later back at the hotel. BONUS for me. Well that's at least what I thought. We get seated and the waitress brings us some water, and what happens, but she tripped and dumped a glass of ice water ALL over sleeping Baby. GUESS WHO WAS UP!!!!!! And not too happy.
PA030860.jpg

The waitress was very apologetic and I told her that I wasn't pleased, because I was hoping Baby would sleep through the meal since we didn't have DDP credits for him, I wouldn't have to pay for him. She went and talked to her manager, and they comped Baby's meal. So I was happy with the resolution. The staff was VERY accomodating.

Now onto the food huh?!?!

DH and Grandmom got the same thing. The Chef's Special 3 course meal. They got the Cheese Soup, and prime rib.
PA030862-1.jpg

PA030864-1.jpg

They both loved the cheese soup, and enjoyed their prime rib as well. DH says it was very tender, and the potatoes were very very good. He'd highly recommend it.

I didn't order an app. Instead I stole Baby's Cheddar Cheese soup App from the kids meal. It was soooooooooo amazing. I could have done with out the bacon, but there is nothing like it anywhere that I've ever had. It was such creamy goodness, and I felt bad that DSIL wasn't there to enjoy it with us, and I knew she loved it also. Here's the sizing on the kids portion soup. It was the perfect size portion for me. Not too much of the cream!
PA030863-1.jpg

I'm not a Prime Rib person. Give me a Fillet migon and I'm a happy happy girl. So I chose the Mushroom Fillet. I was a little scared of the mushrooms because I hate those fungi, but I was able to move them to the side so I was happy with mine. That being said, I have to vote for Chef's de France has having the better of the two Fillets. It was much more flavorful, and had a much more palatable sauce for me. But this was a good second.
PA030865-1.jpg

The kids got hot dogs. Nothing special just a hot dog and fries.

Then came dessert.

The kids all got the kiddie sundae, and were thrilled with it.
PA030873-1.jpg

DH got the Sorbet, and thought it was a perfect dessert. Very refreshing, and a nice taste after the prime rib dinner.
PA030875-1-1.jpg

And I had the creme da la creme dessert! The SMORE! It had a perfect burnt taste to the marshmallows, and the sprinkles just made it even better. I LOVED this dessert. It seemed so childish to order it, but it was nice looking and really hit the spot. It was definitely an ADULT smore! LOL. I can't say enough good things about it!
PA030874-1.jpg

All in all it was one of our better meals. We definitely missed DSIL, but don't worry I snuck out some bread to take back to her at the room. I knew she liked the bread! And thank goodness she was feeling better the next day and was able to join us on our last half day and all of the craziness of that day.

Sorry I missed all the water-spilling-and-waking-up-sleeping-Baby drama.

I was thinking of trying the filet too... already had the prime rib and thought I'd try something different. Now, I'm still yet to try it!

BTW, what was that pyramid thing with the sorbet?

Hmmm, Jas says he thinks the pyramidy thing was a Chocolate Mousse. We're not 100% sure though.

Yes get the Filet next time! Although honestly I say skip it and get the Chef's Filet. I don't know how many times I can say that!!!!

I only think of one thing when I think about chocolate "moose" at LC... so I don't know why they'd do a pyramid of that... I can hope that it is indeed mousse, because that sounds nice...

I'd probably get the filet without mushrooms... I'm actually with you on this one, dsil!
