We Got The Mouse to Pay for Our Disney Feasts! w/PICS! REPORT COMPLETED!

Glad you people like the out-law... er... in-law banter...

I'm getting some more fun food photos ready to go... sorry for the delay, but I had to take another Disney trip... which means I'll need to do yet another dining report after this one... :goodvibes

50s Prime Time Cafe

Lunch

September 28, 2009

It was Grandmom's actual birthday at last! No place better to go than 50s Prime Time... ;)

For starters, the place was a bit crowded. Baby checked out the "antique" black and white tv while we waited...

IMG_2465.jpg

We waited a long time, then went to ask if we'd been called and finally found that someone had just been seated with a similar name and party size to ours...

:headache:

Anyway, they realized the mistake and sat us at the next available table, which took about a minute.

:thumbsup2

We ordered drinks, most of which were too boring to take pictures of... except mine, which unfortunately was tricky to take a picture of because of the opaque cup. But nevertheless, I present my peanut butter and jelly milkshake...

IMG_2467.jpg

It sounds odd, but they had it, I'd read about it here on the DISboards... I had to try it. I liked it! Definitely peanut buttery, which I like! Maybe a little lighter on the jelly flavor, but that's that was fine with me! Probably not my favorite shake in the world, but better than chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry options... my personal favorite lately has been cookies and cream. Yum! Anyhoo, my shake did count as a drink on the DDP, in case anyone is wondering... sweet deal! Literally!

Ok... main courses...

Grandmom (and I believe hubby too) got meatloaf...

IMG_2468.jpg

She and I split two meals here. The other meal we got to share was the pot roast, which I ordered. But for some reason, I can't find a picture of that... if I do, I will post. For now, this is a mystery...

We liked both, but I think I preferred the pot roast just a little bit more. Yes, I ate all my vegetables too! ;)

Db got the grilled chicken sandwich. He was doing well with trying to pick some healthier options.

IMG_2470.jpg

And then one other adult in our party got the chicken pot pie...

IMG_2469.jpg

Hmmm... who in our party would order CHICKEN pot pie? No... not Ms. I-don't-like-chicken-especially-in-Disney-World... it couldn't be... could it?!?! Not again?!?!?!

Hehe...

Yes, again.

Here's Little Guy with his hot dog, grapes, and goldfish.

IMG_2471.jpg

I believe Big Guy got the same thing... except he doesn't like grapes, so he probably had fries.

They were happy.

Baby had some mac & cheese, which he apparently mistook for shampoo or something...

IMG_2473.jpg

Don't I have the cutest nephew? I can easily say that... it wasn't my responsibility to clean him up! ;)

On to desserts...

The kiddos had make-your-own-sundaes...

IMG_2475.jpg

Hubby, and some others in our party, got Dad's brownie sundae...

IMG_2477.jpg

I know that hubby enjoyed it! Brownies are his favorite dessert... a la mode - even better... and throw on some more candy and sweetness, plus Mickey sprinkles?!?! Hubby was in heaven.

I had a hula hoop cupcake (which isn't listed on the All Ears menus)...

IMG_2478.jpg

It was a moist yellow cake, covered with chocolate frosting, white chocolate shavings, a piece of milk or dark chocolate, and when you bite into the cake part (tricky and messy, by the way), there was a custard-like vanilla filling...

IMG_2479.jpg

I liked it, but was too full to finish it... that shake itself would've normally been plenty dessert for me. DDP was just a little too much food! (I don't know how people do deluxe!)

Most importantly, Grandmom got her birthday apple cobbler a la mode...

IMG_2476.jpg

:thumbsup2

I think she had fun, don't you?

Now we just need to hear dsil's take on this meal...

50s Prime Time

DH and I hit a little cross roads between our last meal at Whispering Canyons and this meal. We celebrate the Jewish High Holy Holidays (even though we both consider ourselves Christians, but that's a story for another time). Since this was Grandmom's birthday trip we decided to forgo our beliefs a little bit and do a modified fast for the holidays. We had our last meal at Whispering Canyons, and then fasted until our lunch at Prime Time. We were hoping to make our lunch reservation a bit later, but with DBIL leaving us that day it just wasn't possible to play with the schedule any more. So we made our first meal of the day 50s Prime time! And boy was it worth the wait!

So this is one of my FAVORITE places in all of the world and is a must every time we go. There are just so so so many options for me. I got the Chicken Pot Pie, and OMG it was heaven on a plate! It was so delish. Creamy, oozing goodness. I love anything creamy and pastry like, and pot pies are one of my favs. I was a little concerned about my yuck-chicken disposition and the fact that they make you clean your plate, so I put all of the pieces I rejected on the side and shoved them on DH's plate! :) DH gobbled them up for me, so that neither of us were in trouble. That's why I love him :) :) :) There were plenty of veggies in it to make me a happy girl! :P That's the story on that one DSIL!

And the brownie sundae was to die for! So rich and chocolatey! The Brownie is huge! Seriously this sundae could feed 4 regular people. DH and I didn't come anywhere close to finishing it, because it was just so rich it was almost chocolate overload.

Baby loved his Mac and cheese dinner! Thanks to the TiW card it was a decent deal. BTW DSIL I think Baby finished off Big Guy's Grapes:
IMG_2474-1.jpg

All in all, one of my top 4 restaurants in the world only topped by Le Cellier, Chefs de France and Tutto Italia

PS- DSIL I think I have ESP or something I just had a feeling you posted an update! Lets get this thing finished :) Kay

All Star Music Food Court- Dinner

I need to give a brief review of the Food Court at All Star Music. We ate several meals at the food courts at both Music and Movies depending on where we went for buses. The menus were identical at both resorts, and I was very very happy with it. Here's some of the menus!
IMG_2497.jpg
IMG_2499.jpg

I believe the night of 50s Prime time is the night that DSIL got a pizza with DDP credits. All of the kids loved it, and I had a taste, and it was decent pizza (coming from a NYer). I'd recommend it to get a quick cheap meal on DDP for a family if you wanted to save meals for a later date. For 2 QS meals it could have fed 4 adults (2 slices each).
IMG_2501-1.jpg

I fell in love with the make your own salad bar. It was a traditional let them make a chopped salad bar, with unlimited ingredients allowed including meats and cheeses. I really loved loved loved it and got it every opportunity I could when we went to the Food court.
IMG_2503.jpg

Oh and for those who want Ice Cream or to wait on dessert. They will stamp your receipt and you have 90 minutes to claim your dessert. It worked well for us. When you cash in they rip the receipt.
IMG_2505.jpg

We had breakfast there several times as well. I highly recommend the omlettes over the "breakfast platter" I think you just get more bang for your bux with the omlette vs the platter.

**Pictures are courtesy of DSIL. I hope she doesn't mind my posting them!

DSIL! Nice timing on coming in... did you find out that I was child-less and off from work today? It kinda helps with catching up on these boards... :goodvibes

Here's some more of those All-Star food court photos...

Philly Cheesesteak & fries... which I believe was my db's...

IMG_2504.jpg

I had one later on in the week and liked it a lot... not like the real ones you get in Philly, but still good. I don't recall how db liked it.

And this night I didn't feel like that pizza, so the kids used adult credits, and I used a kid credit...

Mac 'n cheese with corn and mixed veggies (but I asked for mostly broccoli)... I liked it... creamy cheese on the mac... the corn and veggies needed salt though. At least I felt like I was having something healthier than a good part of the rest of the week.

IMG_2502.jpg

I believe the green apple and the carrot cake bowl in the background were two of the "desserts" we got this night. Big Guy loves green apples... yes, specifically green... I figured it would be nice to give the boys some better nutrition than more cookies & ice cream... so they shared that. My mom and I were supposed to eat the carrot cake, but were too full from lunch earlier, so we brought it back to the room. It sat in the fridge all week... I think we ended up throwing it out... :sad2:

More to come shortly... Crystal Palace breakfast is up next!

OMG I remember that green apple and your mother cutting all the skin off of it and not being happy! And then we found the sliced apples! Whoops!

OMG I remember that green apple and your mother cutting all the skin off of it and not being happy! And then we found the sliced apples! Whoops!

Shhh!!! Don't remind her!!!

:rolleyes1

Still, the sliced apples have skin... the kiddos eat more actual apple if you take the skin off and they don't have to try to eat to the edge (which they stay far away from...

Exhibit A:

IMG_2529.jpg

See all that wasted apple as Big Guy is trying to avoid the skin?

I think it's McDonald's that serves peeled apple wedges... I wish more places did. I'm gonna have to start carrying an apple peeler around with me. Why can't my kids enjoy fruit that's easier to peel... like bananas? I miss the days in which they ate those! Talk about a convenient food! It comes in its own case, is easy to remove from the peel - just throw it in a bag and it's good for any time. I'm gonna have to ask God why he didn't create apples more like bananas... probably that stupid serpent's fault or something...

Anyway... how about getting back to our report? Gimme just a few minutes...

Crystal Palace

Breakfast

September 29, 2009

Crystal Palace is probably our favorite place for breakfast. I'm starting to lose count of how many times I've gone... we've always had good service and great food... oh yeah, and who doesn't love Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and Piglet?

At our table, there were lots of Mickey confetti pieces (which little children like to collect, stick in their pockets, take out and sprinkle all over the resort beds later on, etc.) It was for Grandmom's continued birthday celebrating, of course. She even got a card with Pooh & friends' signatures! Oh, and a celebration cupcake that she shared with her grandsons... note I did not say daughter...

IMG_2522.jpg

I only took a couple of pictures at the actual buffet, but here's one:

IMG_2519.jpg

Isn't it amazing, how few donut holes are left? It's breakfast! They've got all types of hot foods on the buffet, made fresh... yet people insist on eating donut holes for breakfast... hrmph!

On another note, the cake at the top of this picture is a raspberry crumb cake of sorts... I didn't try it until my December trip, but I must say that i was really good! My only criticism was that I wanted more raspberry... it kinda sits toward the bottom of the cake... I suppose the law of gravity is to blame for that one... but still, a wonderfully flavorful cake!

Now for a look at some of our actual plates:

IMG_2520.jpg

You can see Big Guy's plate with lots of carbs... and the infamous green apple. Little Guy's plate was full of lots of fruit... my little fruititarian! Oh yeah... and they each had a donut hole too... :sad2:

I'm pretty sure I must have forced them to eat some protein at some point in this meal (probably scrambled eggs).

Dsil had plenty o' carbs too...

IMG_2523.jpg

Though good for her... I see an omelette too! And is that a strip of bacon? Not keeping kosher I see... and she had a bowl of white mush... grits perhaps? She probably put pepper all over it whatever it was... blech...

But see the Mickey waffles? Here they have a chocolate one! I didn't try it though. Big Guy tried one and didn't care for it... how'd you like it, dsil?

Here's my first plate...

IMG_2521.jpg

I had my fill of protein... scrambled eggs (yum), sausage (yum), bacon (so-so), corned beef hash (yum - mostly corned beef here!)... I also had a touch of fruit... strawberries with a side of whipped cream (yum). And hard to see at the back of my plate is some type of creamy/slightly cheesy potato casserole (outstanding!)... oh yeah, and a rather sweet glazed, doughy, pastry of some sort... :rolleyes1

We met some characters throughout the meal. Here's dsil, baby, and Eeyore...

IMG_2528.jpg

And I had some fun with this picture of the kiddos with Piglet...

IMG_2537.jpg

I went back for a dessert plate... (I'm sure others in my party did too, I just didn't get pictures of it all... sorry!)

IMG_2546.jpg

The puffed french toast at the bottom right is a must-do at Crystal Palace... (ok... everything on this plate is...) I think I put a little syrup on my plate for dipping it in. The breakfast pizza, at the back of my plate, is soooo good! I don't eat the crust though. I just like having cheesy goodness all over my eggs! Both of these are found at the kids' buffet bar... but don't worry about it... no shame in helping yourself as an adult!

The little brown splat is some apple butter... just because I don't think I've had any since I was a kid, so it was a bit nostalgic... even if I ate it by itself without putting it on anything else.

On the left side of my plate is a breakfast lasagna, which is like a bread pudding-like cakey substance with a bunch of fruit inside. Pretty good! The presentation on the buffet was truly beautiful!

IMG_2545.jpg

That's all I've got for now... but stay tuned for more soon!

Crystal Palace

I'm with SIL with the fact that this is my favorite Character breakfasts in all of WDW. We had Tusker house later in the week and I just wasn't thrilled at all with Tusker house. And a few years ago we ate at Hollywood and Vine. I enjoyed that one also but I liked Crystal Palace the best of the three.

I am a huge huge Pooh fan, and I've apparently made Baby into a Pooh fan too since his newest and longest standing lovey is a big stuffed Pooh bear. I'm actually more of an Eeyore fan. Although here is proof that DSIL and I really do get along....
P9290640.jpg

As for the food, I didn't have anything I didn't like (and the Krispy Kreme donuts were one of my favorite parts of THIS buffet!) I loved the Chocolate Mickey Head Waffles. Very chocolatey and yummy. Much better then the normal ones.

And It looks like there is a sausage patty on my plate so I might have been taking the bacon and sausage for Baby since no I don't eat it myself. And of course the goopy stuff is grits which of course I adorned with Butter, salt and pepper! Exactly how Grits are eaten in my house :)

Eggs and toast are just that, there's not much you can do to screw it up. I just liked the wide variety of different things that I felt other breakfast buffets missed out on.

All in all 2 Thumbs up!

Chefs de France

Dinner

September 29, 2009

I believe this is a dinner that we hardly had any wait for, if I'm remembering correctly. We went right in to a nice round table which is a lot nicer for conversation than when they stick a group of seven at a rectangular table.

We got rolls, and the boys got a cheese pastry that we shared around since they were more interested in the rolls that everyone else got. Personally, I think it wasn't very cheese-like... harldy could tell there was any in it. It was flaky and a little messy, but with a decent light crisp and slight softness inside. The rolls - with butter - were wonderful.

I was looking back at my pictures and found one adult entree, the Filet de boeuf grille, sauce au poivre noir Gratin Dauphinois et haricots verts... and if you don't understand that, maybe you understand this:

IMG_2602.jpg

Did Grandmom, db, dsil, and me all order the same exact thing?! I would've taken pictures if there was something else, but I don't remember... and I don't remember seeing any chicken here... was our chicken lover actually branching out?

Anyway, I love this meal! Great meat! I like beef! It was juicy, and I actually liked the sauce it came with too. Potatoes - good, not phenomenal, but good... and I love green beans... especially when I put extra butter and salt on them! :goodvibes (I do like my butter... like my momma always says, "Butter makes everything better!")

Big Guy and Little Guy shared a meal... chicken tenders with a side of pasta.

Big Guy took the pasta...

IMG_2601.jpg

And Little Guy took the chicken tenders...

IMG_2603.jpg

It just made sense to split a single meal since they both liked their respective parts of the meal and equally didn't like the part of the meal that their brother was eating. It also helped with saving the kid's TS credits... as we would be having extra adult credits to use at TS meals since hubby had to leave our vacation to get back home to work.

Then we had desserts... I'll show you three - the fourth dessert on the table was one of these, I don't remember who had what though. And the boys just had some ice cream (which I apparently don't have a picture of).

I think that my mom and brother shared this creme brulee...

IMG_2604.jpg

They also shared another dessert.

At least someone got the Profiterolles au Chocolat... was that dsil? Maybe this is also the other dessert that my mom and brother shared...

IMG_2605.jpg

I personally love this dessert... not too rich, but just the right amount of chocolate to give it the right flavor but not make it too heavy.

But even more than the profiterolles, I really love the Crepe a la pomme et cannelle, glace vanille, caramel jus de pommes...

IMG_2606.jpg

I think I waited a little too long to take the picture of my dessert, but you can tell how warm it was since you can see how much the vanilla ice cream is melting. This crepe is filled with warm, slightly cinnamony, appley goodness! It's then covered with a smooth sweet, but not sticky, caramel sauce, and served with that scoop of ice cream... and the combination of the melted ice cream, sauce, and appley goodness is simply heavenly! Oh, I love it! :lovestruc

Yummy, yummy! I'm sure we'll eventually be returning to Chefs.

Oh... and one last thing... we had an unexpected run-in with someone we knew...

IMG_2600.jpg

Remy! We were so surprised. We thought he had left earlier in September... but I guess not!

More is still to come from this trip...

Chefs De France

This was one of my favorite meals that we had. Chefs de France is now on my definite Disney list. I might even admit that this was my complete favorite meal of the week.

The cheesy appetizer that DSIL mentioned was very forgettable. I don't remember anything about it.

This is one of the few meals that I ordered DS his own kids meal. I also ordered him the chicken fingers and pasta meal. Baby's two favorite foods. I want to say he gobbled up the pasta and left most of the chicken at this one.

DH and I both ordered the Fillet of beef. And it was cooked to perfection. I am a fillet mignon person. I will chose Fillet over practically anything. I am especially a peppercorn sauce person. It's my go-to meal at all steakhouses that I go to. The peppercorn sauce was very good, although not the best I have ever had (Challet Suisse in Aruba get's that title). It's not spicy at all, but had a nice sweet taste to it. I would have liked a bit more bite to it IMHO. I also loved the potatoes. Ms. Carboholic that I am thought the potatoes were spot on as well.

As for dessert, again this was one of the better desserts I had ordered on this trip. I got the Profiterolles. Delish ice cream. Decadant chocolate. Overall 2 thumbs up here for me!

DH and his Mom shared their desserts. They had the Creme Brulet and the Crepes. DH enjoyed both desserts equally.

We loved our meal at Chefs. DH had the beef dish and I thought the potatoes were some of the best I have had.

Glad you enjoyed it as well!

Was it a favorite because you didn't have chicken? :)

Beef... yummmmmm-o!

I'm not usually into peppercorn anything, which is why I was surprised I liked the sauce too!

Crepes... that's the other thing they shared! Thanks for clearing my foggy memory. I might need your help with remembering things coming up too!

Although I haven't had the creme brulee at Chefs, I'm thinking that you can't really go wrong with a French dessert! :goodvibes

I'm sure we'll be back to Chefs too! That was definitely a meal worth a dining plan credit!

BTW... I've been perusing your dining report too and just saw your Chefs review too!

You also can relate to us with having a husband who gets stuck at his job while you just want to take a family vacation. Glad you could all go this last trip. My hubby only has one week of vacation time each year, which I think is absurd... makes it hard to see family in different parts of the country and have time with us too. He's also been working six days a week a lot... that kinda person NEEDS a vacation. Hope you hubby can be with you on your future Disney trips too.

Joining in...I read your July food report and loved it. Your boys are so cute and your nephew too. We love Chefs de France and my son actually got the something your son had but he just ate the pasta b/c he does not eat chicken nugget or fried (he'll eat grilled chicken) but he loved the pasta and the rolls. I can't wait to go back.

Welcome to my second dining review... (dsil's first)!

Gotta love the little boys and their picky appetites... with two, it's generally one wants pepperoni pizza, the other wants cheese; one wants red apples, the other wants green; one wants chocolate ice cream, the other wants vanilla... silly boys...

Loving the reviews and the banter, we also loved Chefs!

Glad you're enjoying! :goodvibes

Also glad to see other people love Chefs... lately I've been feeling like there's some anti-Chefs sentiment on the boards. Everyone's got their opinions though, I suppose...
