Hello everyone,
Norm and I just got in a little while ago and thought I would let everyone know that we did quite a bit of research yesterday in our hometown - I found good places to go to and also unfortunalty some places that were not so good - I was able to find places that will give discounts to those that are interested from the scooter carts to children friendly establishments and other interesting stuff - I received a call from "Papa" aka as Mike Saturday telling me that Disney was not coming to Key West due to the weather conditions - we were disappointed since we had planned a big meet, but i am sure they were well contended with their new travel plans - those that had planned to meet up with the cruisers were very disappointed, but when Norm and I make our plans to go back down again within the next couple of months, will make sure it is a date that the Magic will be there and the meet can be planned again.
Anyhow anyone wanting all the information I picked up can write me at snelsonbrown@aol.com and I also want to tell those that have already sent me their envelopes, will get them out within a day or so, but no longer than that.
It was great to go back home and see the family, but it is also so nice to be back "home" again.
With love to all
Always
Shirley and Norm

Shirley thank you for the update. Too bad you didn't get to have a big get together though. I know you had planned that date for quite some time. take care.

I was also sad to hear that the Meet wasn't to take place due to the weather and change in itinerary. But I was also secretly a teeney tiny bit happy because my friends cruising this time around now have another reason to cruise again next year on 10/11/03 to see what they missed on this Western Cruise. (I am mean, ain't I?)

Please nobody flame me for my secret thoughts, I was really more sorry than pleased about the circumstances.

That ain't half as bad as my thinking...........

I'm wondering if Key Lime Pie will freeze...........After all, we'll be down there in November! ;) ;) ;) :smooth: :smooth: :smooth:

Well shirley? Does Key Lime pie freeze?

Shirley,

Do you know if there is anyplace in Key West where you can have a Key Lime Pie shipped to someone? Or even the ingredients to make one? We thought it would make unique birthday gifts for my SIL's.

Linda

Hi there - first to freeze the real kind of Key Lime Pie will NOT work - in fact it is the best when eaten just as soon as it cools off - I have the perfect way to make them Linda and you are most welcomed to write me and will send you all the information - you can write me at snelsonbrown@aol.com ok?

As for the meet in Key West, yep I was very disappointed, BUT again would not want anyone in Harm's Way from the bad weather - THO the weather in Key West was beautiful - the USS Harry S. Truman was stationed out about 7 miles out and turned loose about 5000 sailors into KW on shore leave - it seemed like old times when KW was a sailor town - a bunch of young men having a good time on land -

Anyhow enough for now ------Key West can be fun but again it is an adult playground -
Take care everyone and have a great weekend.
Hugsssssss from a conch
Shirley

Shirley,

My DD (16) says there is some famous place in Key West for conch fitters. Do you know where? Thanks! VAL:p

Unfortunalty conchs have been harvested to almost nothing in the keys so all conchs are now coming in from the Islands - the best I have found is at 5 Brothers on the corner of Grinnell and Southard Street - Norm says that they have a stand near the aquarium, but I do not know if it is still there - when are you sailing and will try to find out more.

I just received a letter that some folks seems to believe that I have an interest/reason why I offer to send Key West information out or as it was said to me "what do I get for going through this trouble and that the compensation must be great enough to be worth my while and this is why I am doing it".
I am again saying this and hope that I will not have to repeat it.
I DO NOT GET ANYTHING OR EXPECT ANYTHING FOR EXTENDING A HAND OF KINDNESS ESPECIALLY IN MY HOME TOWN OF KEY WEST. I share a great deal of information on anywhere or any place that I may be able to help without expecting compensation for it --in fact I would refuse it --If you want to order a basket --that is great is not then I still extend the same courtesy - I guess my feelings are hurt for I am sure many that have ordered the packages have received them and didn't feel any pressure to buy baskets - then there are those that do --
I again want those that have question my interegity --that I am for real and do not do anything, expecting sometime back.
I feel there is a lot of unkindness in the world and feel if I can show some kindness then I have gone by the Golden Rule.
Thanks for listening
As Always
Shirley

It's unfortunate that there are still some in this world (and probably always will be) who feel that people do things only for what it will get them. I, unfortunately, have some of those in my own, immediate family. They can't understand that I would do something for someone without any kind of reward for myself.

Shirley, don't let the bad apples get you down. You do what you want and know that there are those who will be your friends and appreciate you for what you do.

In answer to your question about when we will be sailing (the Conch Fritter question), we are scheduled for next May 24-31 on the Western. Thanks for everything!!!:p

I will back you up 100%. I sent you a SASE with $3.00 postage and you sent me an entire envelope of things to see in Key West, Orlando and Port Canaveral. We greatly appreciate it as we will be spending time in all three. It was way more stuff than I thought you would be sending.

Please, I remember this happening once before on these boards. Don't let it get you down.

And for anyone else that wants info on these places, it was very useful.

Thanks so much shirley for taking the time to send it.

smiles Patty

Shirley, thanx for all the help you give our board. Maybe some day I'll get to meet you! Just want to say we love those infamous Key Lime pies! Last time we drove to Key West, we bought one and packed it securely in a cooler of ice. It made the 16 hr trip to MD fine, where it was devoured by the family!! Last Thanksgiving my daughter surprised me and made one just so I could get my fix! It was delicious!!

Hey Shirley!

Just remember

"Don't let one BAD APPLE spoil the whole bunch, Girl!"

Obviously, this person would expect something therefore couldn't phathom that there are special people still in this world!

Chin up Girlfriend!

Shirley

That is horrible!! :( Seems to me that they are just projecting their own behavior and attitude onto someone else.

Whoever said this about such a lovely lady, listen carefully. Shirley is living by the principle that the world CAN be a better place if we all were just a little bit nicer. Wouldn't it be wonderful if there were more of us with that philosophy!

Shirley...you are an angel for all you do. It's shameful that anyone would hurt your feelings this way. *huggggggggz*

An interesting bit of trivia is that the temperature at Key West has never (in recorded history) fallen below the freezing point.

I guess my feelings are hurt...

I again want those that have question my integrity --that I am for real and do not do anything, expecting sometime back.

Shirley, remember what I told you when we were at Roberto's? We are all, unfortunately, trained to be somewhat skeptical when it appears that something is too good to be true. Those of us who love to talk about what a wonderful person you are do so because you are a “good-news story”... when we find someone as wonderful as you, we want to share that good news with the world.

Sometimes we will also suggest, almost in the same breath, that perhaps folks might like to do business with you. And we do that because we love the work you do and think you offer a great product with a personal touch. I know that you and your staff put that personal touch into everything you sell... again, a “good-news story” that we want to share with everyone.

Unfortunately, sometimes we may give others the impression, that your wonderful offers of assistance are connected with an obligation to do business with you. We'd love it if folks did business with you, but we know that you aren't attaching strings to your generosity.

I'm sorry that the skeptics hurt your feelings... they wouldn't do so if they knew you, but we are trained to be skeptical. I'm sorry that this means sometimes you get your feelings hurt by the skeptics. They don't really mean to hurt your feelings... but sometimes that will happen. Please don't let that discourage you. The rest of us know you and love you and we know that you're for real and we know that you're a person of integrity.

(Oh my, maybe I ought to be putting this in a personal message for you... but I think I'll post it anyway.)

I just saw this thread, Shirley, and I'm VERY sorry that you received a letter that hurt you.

Let me also assure everyone that Shirley does what she does out of the GOODNESS of her heart. She is as genuine as they come. I'm actually planning on getting her Key West info as well (I just never seem to get around to mailing the envelope!) :p and I appreciate the fact that she is sharing her EXPERTISE on Key West with us. I am quite certain she gets nothing from doing so other than the satisfaction of helping others.

David, Michelle and everyone else,
My feelings sometimes are right on the edge and sometimes someone can say something that they feel in their thoughts and heart and I just get my feelings hurt - we should be able to do good without having strings attached - this has always been my feelings anyhow.
David I have checked out the Key Lime company you have a link to ----ughhhhhhhhh - I have tasted them and nope not worth the monies --to ship Key Lime Pie just doesn't keep that taste.
Now here is the secret and if anyone wants some of this Key Lime juice, just let me know and I will order some or you can order it yourself ---

This is an original KEY LIME PIE RECEIPE

You need about 1 -9" graham cracker pie shell (they can be purchased at the stores)

1 14oz can of sweetened condensed milk
4 egg yolks-----(keep the white for it will be used later)
4 to 5 limes - squeezed into a cup

you will mix all of the above into a bowl - take a mixer and mix until it is smooth and creamy --pour the filling into the pie shell that has been baked and bake at 350 for about 15 or so minutes.

take it out - and set aside-
Now you take the egg whites -----put them into a clean bowl and start beating with a mixer on high speed -----when it begins to start standing into curls - start adding spoons of sugar - maybe about 4, 5 or so - keep tasting until it is to your taste.

pour on the pie and put back in the oven to let the whipped eggs are a light brown - take out -cool and there you have it.

I use Nellie & Joe's Key Lime Pie juice that is purchased here and in Key West - If you want a bottle of it --just let me know.
ps it also works if you have a sore throat - mix with honey and there you are.

Another Key West tidbit.
hugssssssss
from Shirley

Thanks for the recipe, Shirley. It sounds great! Ithink we'll pick up some of that lime juice as gifts instead of shipping a VERY expensive pie.

Linda

Shirley... you are the GREATEST and I double ditto everything that Dave said!! :D :D

Keep being the same Shirley that you are... don't change a thing. We all know the REAL YOU!!

May God Bless you today.... especially!

Love,
Beth
