WDW Commando Club

Almost game time. Got the butterflies in the stomach ;) Leave tomorrow and so far so good. The kids are consistently waking up on their own about 5:30 to 5:45 Central time. Hopefully this keeps up on Thursday morning for RD at MK.

Multiple copies of our TP printed out for the dw and dgp's. A copy of my calculating spreadsheet stored in my phone. I'll be the guy with the green backpack :)

Have a Great trip, I'm sure you will do fine:thumbsup2, If something doesn't go as planned, skip it, don't stress yourself out, things have a way of falling into place:goodvibes

May I join? I'm a mid-grade Commando, I guess.

I schedule wake up, eating, and leaving-the-hotel times, meet-up times and places, times to eat lunch, and watch fireworks (and where). I make t-shirts with everyone's names, make sure everyone's wearing the same color so they're easier for me to spot, and I still have the itinerary (colored index cards, laminated, and bound together with a key ring!) from 2002 that everyone laughs at.

I haven't planned visits to the attractions down to the minute, so does that mean I still have much to learn?

Welcome. We did matching shirts (no names) each park day one year. It was hard to find a men XXL tinker bell shirt, so when DW and dds wore tinker bell, I wore Grumpy.

Norm in a Tink shirt, now that would have been funny:rotfl:

Hi there!

What a wonderful thread. I've finally found somewhere I belong lol :cloud9:

Can I apply to become a member please?

Here's a little bit about me and my family:

I'm Rachel, 36, married to Garry my childhood sweetheart, also 36. We have one son, Matthew, 5 1/2. We live in Bristol, England. I've been to WDW many times, but our next trip will be our first since our son was born (although on our last trip I was already pregnant but didn't realise yet!).

I would say I'm probably a mid-grade commando. I plan to the minutest detail but we are all very adaptable and versatile so if things need to change that is fine. I just plan because I love planning. We have booked our trip for March 2013 and are going with our best friends and their little girl, so far I have done our full itinerary including planned all of our table service meals ready to do our ADRs at the 180 mark. I have already bought all of DS's clothes, and taken pictures of each outfit with a piece of paper showing what day it is for :rolleyes1 I'm just starting to design invites for each day to give to the children (from a character), and getting them little gifts for each day.

So, can I join your ranks please? I need somewhere I am not ridiculed for planning! If I hear one more person say, in a patronising voice: "Nooo, you don't want to plan so much Rach, its a holiday. Chill out!" I will actually scream at them and tell them to mind their own mickey ice-cream sandwich!

Rachel x
P.S. Actually off to DLP in 4 weeks, and have that planned too :cheer2:

1) :welcome: to the COMMANDO Club
2) I HAVE to steal that saying - if it's ok with you...
"mind your own mickey ice-cream sandwich!"

I was just reading that they will be testing the Fastpass + system, what a joke:rotfl2:, IMO this is what they came up with after late risers complained that the fast passes were gone:sad2: I can't really foresee myself really using this system since it takes out the whole fun factor of achieving the goal of getting on the rides in the first place:confused3

I understand they want everyone to get a chance of a quick wait, but IMO this is catering to the lazy, I hope they charge for this:thumbsup2

Yeah I don't know how I feel about this! I've read various places that this might be something only offered to moderates and/or deluxe resorts but that can't go over well, and I've heard that it would be something you pay extra for. Either way, I don't like the idea of having to use the arm bands for this because if it falls off and gets lost I have to take time to go get a replacement and it would likely give me a funky tan line....lol

Guess we will all see how it pans out! :confused3

Agree. I don't like the MNSSHP arm bands either. But, at least they are at night when it is cooler.

If we are ever at WDW at the same time, you know what I'm bringing:lmao: It would be well worth the effort finding one:thumbsup2

Free food and free shirts. I'm there.

I'm planning in doing up a bunch of tie dye shirts for the family when I've got the time. My prev attempt failed miserably last time, one of my few failures in the creativity dept. However I know what I did wrong, so I'm hoping the next attempt will turn out much better. Will slowly accumulate the stuff required and do it when I've got the time. The kids are really bugging me about it, despite my reservations about giving it another go, so we'll see how the end results turn out this time.
Has anyone tried the spiral MMH shirts that are on the DISign board??? I've done them before with really good success. You can also use the same process to put names and sayings on the back of shirts if you are inclined to do so. I used this technique to make some shirts for prev trips, and added very sneaky "Grumpy's wife" to the back of one shirt's so that you couldn't see it unless you looked at it a certain way. It just depends on how much time you have and how creative you are.

Good luck when you try the shirts again! Post a pic if you don't mind after you do them! :thumbsup2

I'm frugal by nature, so am waiting for the Michaels craft store to come out with a 40% off coupon for the large tie dye kit I want. I probably will do them over the summer months when I've got the time. Will be doing 12 shirts for each boy, and around 9 for me. I don't mind doing large batches of things at a time, so long as I prepare the day before. Hence the major bake off tomorrow, which will include 10 batches of cakes (aka mini cupcakes, cakes, and 2 apple pies). The pies I'm going to need for the May long weekend as we are going to finally get our large metal garage up finally and have to feed the masses at my MIL's place. Did all the prep work today, so all I've got to do is grab a bag of dry mix, add a few ingred's then put it into the pans. Works alot easier that way. I also need to freeze DS8's birthday cake, and possibly make a couple cakes and freeze them for the schools BBQ next month, if I'm in a creative mood to decorate them. Will post pics once I get the shirts done. The mistake I made last time was not using 100% cotton shirts, and not presoaking in the soda ash. Came out light and blotchy. Hopefully the next time they will turn out alot better.

:welcome: You are Member #197:cool1: You won't get ridiculed here for wanting to plan a full day:banana: I think the main reason we get ridiculed is people mock what they do not understand:confused3

Reading the WDW news, I got a little excited:yay:, it seems Prince Caspin in HS is being replaced by A POTC The Legend Of Jack Sparrow, where you walk in the footsteps of Jack Sparrow in a "1st of-it's-kind sensory experience" opening in fall 2012:confused3, this sounds neat can't wait to find out what it is all about:cool2:

Strayed away from this thread for a while, but I missed my fellow commandos :)

The new Jack Sparrow attraction sounds really interesting, too bad it probably won't be open in time for my August trip!

Welcome back:wave2:, I too will be there in August, there is always hope that things open early, but most likely it will not be open in time, there's so much new stuff, & changes going on for this trip, unfortunately some things will not be ready until the Holiday season, I really hope my wife can get off those couple days in Nov, for a quick return trip:thumbsup2

We're staying at Art of Animation so that's pretty exciting!! And of course I'm planning everything too a tee!

Fri August 24th I'll be eating dinner in the food court at Art of Animation (I got to check the place out:cool1:)
