This is a tough one. I'm not going to belittle the opinions of people who are strongly against human trafficking (I mean, how many people are really for it?).
But it's a ride about pirates. We may as well just take out all the bad stuff like firing cannons on a fort that is protecting a town. Or every pirate drinking, heaven knows alcoholism is a very real and disgusting thing. Let's take out all the guns and swords. Hell, let's just re-theme it to Jake and the Neverland Pirates, because in that cartoon pirates don't even steal.
I really do think it is tough. There are many reasons to preserve the auction scene. The first being the value of art and history the attractions have. And yeah, I know all the arguments about the theme parks being ever changing and evolving. It also has historical value. Is the whole Pirates attraction a valuable, 100% accurate historical depiction? Of course not, but that doesn't mean that it can't depict certain aspects of history.
I dunno, I'm kind of torn on it. I can understand the real world applications of that scene and why some people don't like it. But I also enjoyed the entertainment value of the 'we want the redhead'.
