Not smoking in front of me is only half the battle. It's like knowing that the cake you love and want to eat is in the refrigerator but no one is eating it in front of you. You still know it's there and you have access to it. How good is your willpower. Can you dismiss it all the time or will you have a weak moment at some point and lapse. Remember you can never eat that cake again and it will be in your refrigerator every day. How good will you do?

Have you got a shed Tom and John can live in?

For Will & Mickey (my friends that I know a bunch of you met)...

Just got off the phone w/ Will...he wanted to wait until I was back from VB to tell me all of this....

Will's grandmother passed away from a heart attack on Thanksgiving Day.
Mickey's dad (also sailed w/ us on the PC cruise) also had a heart attack on Thanksgiving Day & has not regained conciousness. He's brain dead. They took out the breathing tube today, and now they're just waiting for him to stop breathing. They are in Houston.

Will & Mick had been in NYC for the holiday...they watched the parade & went to Letterman & then found out the news.

Thanks.

Please extend my sympathy to both of them.
Losing a parent is so hard.

I remember the guys well and Mickey's parents. Seemed like we saw some or all of your group several times a day.

Hi Marilyn,

Yep-it was Mom & Raizin (both of his parents). I go through periods to crying & stopping. I also hate being so far away and can't do anything for them other than prayers.

Don't underestimate the importance of those prayers!

 Oh, I'm so sorry Monica.

I traipsed the 1/2 mile home from the train today on the icy streets. It wasn't all that bad.

I did have a rather interesting experience in the elevator today at work (keep in mind it was snowing, and icy and slushy out).

I go down to the lobby with a colleague to Caribou Coffee to get a nice warm bevvy.

We get on the elevator, for a moment it's the two of us, and two women. They've come in from the street and are bundled up.

Then a guy gets on the elevator, in a light jacket, shorts, barefoot, wearing cheap rubber flip-flops.

I mean not only is it cold out, but there is a lot of slush. I can't imagine the ice and snow, not to mention how caustic the ice melter is that that spread on the streets.

He gets off the elevator on a floor before ours and I mumbled in a stage whisper, "I think they invented shoes in around 500 BC." The two women broke up.

We are still endeavoring to keep our heat down, so tonight I think it is time for our fluffy, polar fleece footie pajamas.

Monica... all you can do right now is be there for them. I know distance is a very difficult thing - but they will need you most when they are home and have to take care of things there... sometimes the best thing you can do is to just be there...

Monica:

I'm so sorry for Will & Mickey. Please offer them my condolences. And for you  Being a friend is the best thing that they need right now.

For me it's also a sad night. My Aunt Lue passed away this morning. She had be on declined for the last week, so it was known this was coming, but nonetheless sad. My cousin, Laura is who I'm most concerned about tonight. Her father, my father's brother passed about 15 years ago, so this makes her alone now. She has a brother but they don't get along at all. Laura is the Grandmother to the twins, one of which passed last summer, you may remember. If you can spare an extra prayer for my cousin and her grief that would be great.

Deb, stay strong  and I agree with the advice you've received, tell those that are smoking around you that it isn't cool and it isn't helping. I think it's ok to voice your thoughts in this type of situtation. Good Luck

Paul and I had a nice couple days away. Always good to reconnect :lovestruc

Now it's time to get ready for our Xmas/NYE travels to WDW and on the Magic.

I'm sorry if I upset you  I know it's hard because I have gone through it with family. I don't have the desire to smoke but I do have the desire to eat the bad things and drink champagne. It is worth it to me. I thought smoking wasn't worth it to you. I will tell you that I had to give up all dairy products the entire time I was pregnant and nursing. That was about four years all together and everyone knows how much I love cheese and I drink at least 2 glasses of milk a day. It was hard. It was worth it to me to stop. And of course I wasn't drinking that entire time as well. It's possible if you want it. Again, I'm sorry.

Awww sweetie, you didn't upset me at all. I guess I was on my soap box and I will get off now. I was just trying to explain to those who never smoked (who I admire greatly) what it's like. I also needed to vent my fears knowing that I would get the support and love and good advice that I need to hear right now. It really really helps. Thank you.

Deb, any time you start craving a cigarette, just pop on here for somebody to tell you NO. There's usually somebody around for support. This is going to be very hard, but we all know you can do it! :grouphug:

THANK YOU Holly, that's exactly what I needed to hear and I feel better already. You know, I will take you up on that suggestion. Please tell me NO when I rant again and thanks for the vote of confidence. I really am going to try very hard to continue to be a non-smoker. You guys got me there and I'm going to depend on you to keep me there. Thank you so much.

Great pictures Lisa. Looks like you all had a gret time. Your children look wonderful, and Annie is becoming very much like you.

YES Lisa, I LOVE all the pictures.....thank you SO much for sharing. Glad you all got to cruise together and had a great time. All the kids are growing up so much.

Oh I know about venting ;) I'm on your side, believe me. I just thought you may need some tough love :lmao: How about a drink? Will that keep your mind off of it ;)

I told you about this necklace, but I never posted the pictures. I got number 62 out of a limited edition of 1000. Not bad. I love it. More happy birthday to me.

Nan... sorry you had to come home to such sad news...

Hope the weekend was a good one...

Thanks to all that said congratulations. Now I just need to pass my class and a typing test

I have faith in you G... I failed typing in high school (granted it was on the old IBM selectrics without the delete key...) and I can type faster than my fingers can go...(which makes for some interesting typos...)

Oh Monica, this is so very sad. It's kind of cosmic in a way because they each lost a loved one at the same time. They have each other to lean on thru this. They each have friends like you and all of us here behind you. I will wish them strength and keep them in my thoughts.:cloud9: :cloud9:

Monica, I know exactly how that is because I did the same thing for my friend Brian. You just can't be there with them and that makes you feel so much worse. You have to do it with thoughts instead of real hugs until you can see them. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

One day at a time, Deb. One day at a time. :thumbsup2
And sometimes
One minute at a time.

Tell Tom about your struggles. Tell him about my Great Uncle who died yesterday of lung cancer. Don't TELL him what he has to do, ASK him to help you stick to your resolve to not smoke. Remind him that when he smells of smoke and has cigarettes around it makes your commitment harder.:scared:

 BUT
Remember :woohoo:
:cool1: You have made a commitment to yourself!! :yay: To go for HEALTH in 2009 just like you did in 2008.:cheer2:

You can do it, you have proven you can

You're so right Jan. I forgot that part. Yes, one minute at a time. Keep building them up. That did help me very much in getting to this point. I keep telling myself that I will smoke again when I'm 90 sitting on the front porch in my rocking chair. Then I'll smoke a pack of cigarettes again. Ya see, I really do want to smoke and at this moment I'm remembering the reasons why I like it more than the reasons why I don't want to do it. But if I keep telling myself that I won't smoke today, I'll do it tomorrow....it gets me thru each day to the next. I'm looking forward to New Year's Eve....it'll be my one year date and that will help lock it in too.
