I wax absolutely NOTHING :scared1: My hair actually grows really ssssllloooowwww so I don't even have to shave every day...it's more like a weekly routine  Being a blonde does have it's benefits  according to my brunnette friends.

So for all you ladies who get your legs waxed, how long do you have to grow the hair out before you do it? Is the first-time waxing really really painful? I have a fairly high pain tolerance but don't want to wimp out at the salon.

Also, if you are just getting legs, do they let you keep your underclothes on? I am terrified of having to get naked in front of someone! :rotfl:

I have waxed my legs before (didn't hurt) and bikini line (only a little bit of hurt).
Now, I use my Silkepil for my legs and bikini line (doesn't hurt).

I'm too chicken to get my armpits waxed, although I would love the fact of not hvaing to shave twice a day to keep those smooth armpits while wearing tank tops during the summer :)
I'm also too chicken to have a Brazilian done, because I'm embarassed, and because I'm too afraid it will hurt a lot.

When you go for just your legs, you can keep your underwear on.

For me, I have to wait 5 weeks for the hair to grow out. My first time was last summer and it hurt...but wasn't so bad that I couldn't take it anymore. I went back and had it done a second time last summer too. I designate myself as a wimp, I am terrified of needles and wimp out on a flu shot but I was able to stay for the full waxing. I have 2 more weeks left before I go back and get my legs/bikini line waxed again. I have always had my legs waxed at the same time as the bikini line so I am not sure but I would guess they would never make you take your underclothes off.

Okay I was thinking about doing the Brazilian wax this time, someone who has had it done please pm me the process and what was the most painful spot?:confused3

Anyone who says that waxing doesn't hurt either has a very high pain tolerance or is lying. I had my legs and armpits done ONCE and I had to walk around with my arms held up for two days!!!!!

Never again :faint:

I think that the skill of the waxer is also an issue. If someone does not have the technique down pat, you are likely to be very uncomfortable.

One time I bought a home waxing kit and asked a friend of mine to wax my back. BIG mistake! He did not know what he was doing and instead of pulling off large swaths of hair in smooth motions, he had to tear out dozens of clumps of wax and hair a little at a time. That was a painful process.

Princess Tiff,

I've had it done and it really wasn't all that painful. The girl who did my wax is GOOD and she is who everyone goes to around here.

She's quick which helps. I took ibuprofen before I went. The salon suggested that or a glass of wine before the procedure.

I LOVE IT!! I'm going back again in a few weeks.

I would consider getting my legs waxed. I wouldn't be thrilled with having to let it grow out long enough to get waxed again, though.

Pooh_Friend#1,

The salon I went to makes you put on a little paper pair of panties and you move them around so the waxer can get to certain spots. Then they get down to business applying the wax and removing the strips. The part that hurt the most was the "lower tummy/top of the hair line." I had to take a deep breath after that.

The waxer was very comforting and she said she does about 4 a day and has seen it all. She even does her own.:confused3 Not sure I could do that.

I've had 3 kids so it really was no big deal. I was all nervous beforehand for nothing.

It feels fantastic and I'm very glad I did it.

Tag Fairy,

No, I don't need a tag regarding this particular issue.:thumbsup2 :scared:

FYI-

It helps to go at the right time of the month, IMO. There are certain times when my skin is just too sensitive.

I also get my eyebrows waxed but I've read that this can lead to saggy eyelids over time.

There are a lot of high end salons that don't wax anymore around the eyebrows and only pluck.

I don't get it done as much as I used to and pluck every couple of days.

Same here. plus a whole leg wax at my salon is $80, and it doesn't even last that long. I need my legs smooth daily, so I don't think I can do leg waxing.

I get my arms waxed once or twice a summer. I love the feel of smooth arms (mine are pretty hairy) and it grows back very faint. I can do it every 3 or 4 months, so that works fine and it doesn't hurt at all.

I had my SIL do my legs once, it killed never again. I think the skill of the waxer does make a big difference though.

If I somehow come into a large amount of $ I am getting my legs Lazered.

Thank you Floridafam. I am a little nervous now about Brazilian!!!! So how much does lazer cost!!!!

The salon I go to charges $55 for a full leg and usually the stuble will start about 2 weeks afterwards. They say if you wax more often that the hair grows back thinner and thinner, but I just can't see myself in the summer time letting my leg hair grow back on my legs..that is why I only do it for vacations in the summertime!!!

The brazilian isn't as bad as it sounds. I wanted to go but the online descriptions scared me.

I had my compounding pharmacist mix a topical analgesic cream to use, I think it was about $15 and will last for 3 waxes. If your doctor will prescribe emla cream, that is even better. I also have a rx for tramadol for headaches - took one of those about an hour before the wax. Really, it wasn't bad.

I get my eyebrows waxed, but I also like threading. Indians (from India) perfected the technique and it is absolutely wonderful!!! I actually got the idea from my fitness board friends... One if their best suggestions.

I do not "do" a lot of Brazilian waxes, but just for bikini lines now. I recall someone making a comment how gals nowadays looks like 8 year old girls now "down there" so it skeeved me out. I won't get into details, but I am sure you can google it...

I have since learned how to do my own waxing. You have to be careful, though, because you could get burnt or pull skin. Ouch.

grlpwrd,

Initially, DH didn't want me to have it done. He said "you're not 12." I didn't get everything taken off and he loves it. It just feels more clean and fresh and I can wear whatever kind of bathing suit I want to or whatever kind of underwear I want to.

:) :confused3 :thumbsup2

I've heard of threading. I would love to try that sometime.

;) I am glad it works for you. :)

I can't be too descriptive for fear of getting scolded around here, but just for people reading this thread there are different patterns or styles you can get when you get waxed. I know some places who can even give you a certain shape or special request and dye it for you.

Okay, I said too much. lol

Ok I was wondering that too. So the initial wax only lasts around 2 weeks?
Then how long do you have to wait to get it done again?
Sorry to be such a dork about this, I really don't know!!!

I got my legs waxed before my trip last year to WDW and LOVED it,(not the actual waxing), it was so great not to have to shave every morning of the trip. I have been getting my eyebrows done for about 8 years or so, about every 6 mths.. In fact I just made an appt. yesterday to get my legs done for my upcoming May trip.:)

Last year when it was my first time waxing, I waited 3 weeks and then got waxed. The lady told me to make an appointment in 5 weeks, which I did and got waxed again but she did tell me it would have been better if I would have waited another week or two, but I couldn't because I was leaving on vacation in 2 days!!!

I have done my eyebrows and I get the brazilian, but DH prefers bare, no patterns or colors, etc. Honestly, the first time I went I prepared myself for an awful experience, but it wasn't bad at all. I have been several times and haven't ever had a great deal of pain.

As someone else posted, I think it varies depending on the skill of the person performing the waxing as well as where you are in your cycle. The closer you are, the more sensitive your skin is.
