Was Jill Carroll Really Kidnapped?

I remember that! He was based here in NC. He released a statement that he had been beheaded too. It was very upsetting so close to home. The kicker was that after he returned to the states he went on leave...then didn't show up at the base when it was time for him to report.

Hopefully, that weirdo is in prison. :sad2:

I can't believe this post is 5 pages long and nobody thought my first thought about the whole thing. MONEY! My first thought was that somebody paid for her treatment and her release. I keep reading that the US goverment won't pay, but there are lots of other people that would. She was a reporter and if she was well treated, what a great voice she would be for the other side.

I am finding this whole thread very interesting.Something did not seem right from the beginning. Her "cries and pleas" just rang hollow to me from the beginning but just could not put my finger on it.
I screamed and clapped (in the midle of the healthclub no less)when the female service woman was rescued a few years back but could muster only mild interest in Jill Carroll.
I just hope she does not go on the circuit like those 2 girls from Texas that were rescued from the Taliban. They knew prothesizing was illegal there but being so naive- did it anyway. :rolleyes2

When I first heard Jill Carroll was released, I was happy for her and her family, but something just didn't sit right with me. I have a gut feeling that we all don't know the true story, but time has a way of making the truth come out.

Too bad Jill Carroll wasn't killed - then there wouldn't be any doubts about what happened.

Well, I didn't know about the translator, but I did wonder what the deal was with her looking so good after being released. I am not saying I think she was making the whole thing up, but yeah, to be totally honest, I did wonder.

I thought it was interesting that she was released right after her sister made a public plea to let her go...

FYI...

I just read this on MSNBC -

Report: Carroll video was filmed under duress

Video of kidnapped journalist Jill Carroll the night before her release is now being characterized by her employer The Christian Science Monitor as propaganda she was forced to take part in as the price for her freedom.

In the video, which first appeared Thursday on a jihadist Web site, Carroll praises her captors for treating her well and attacks U.S. policies in Iraq. On Friday, The Christian Science Monitor, quoting Carroll's father, Jim Carroll, reported that the video was made while she was still "under her captors' control."

Jill Carroll was a hostage for three months before her release on Thursday.

The CSM issued the report after Jim Carroll had a long telephone conversation with his daughter on Friday. In the video, Carroll appeared in a traditional Arab head-covering and said she had never been threatened or abused by her captors — comments that bewildered many viewers and drew harsh criticism from conservative bloggers and commentators.

Before her release, CSM reported, Carroll's captors promised her freedom in exchange for cooperating in the making of the video, but she told her father she didn't believe them, because she had been promised freedom several times before.

The morning after the video was finished, she was released in a Baghdad neighborhood and pointed to the offices of the Iraqi Islamic Party, which then contacted the U.S. government, the report says.

Just wondering if you think Jill Carroll was really "kidnapped" by extremists or does she have a hidden agenda?

I have some doubts about her situation. I don't think she was kidnapped.

What do you think?

Thank you!!! I can't help but feel the same way. Don't know why, but I wonder...

I don't know what news outlets or radio talk shows the rest of you are listening to, but they said the same thing on NPR as MSNBC, today. She was professing her well-being and commending her captors while still in their presence. Shouldn't we wait until she gets home and hear what she says before we condemn her? I would expect more than to prematurely call her an enemy sympathizer from her fellow Christians, at least.

If the righty radio personalities are jumping on her statements while in captivity as some chance to condemn peace activists, shame on them, and shame on the people who blindly follow their lead.

Why would her captives want to keep her fed and healthy? They want to contrast their treatment of prisoners (at least women prisoners) with ours and garner support from the world. Are they doing a good job of that? Maybe.

Oh....MY....GOD

I must be verrry gullible - or maybe I don't read enough. I assume she was kidnapped.

I think this sounds like paranoia.

What do you think?

For crying out loud, her escort was shot freaking DEAD!!

If it wasn't a kidnapping, it was a pretty insane hoax!!

Geeez.

It's pretty unfathomable that any true journalist would do something like what is being suggested.

Also, if I were her, I would be saying whatever made the Iraqis happy until I was safe and sound back in the U.S., which she is not.

I'm sorry, but to second guess this woman's misery is...well, it's beyond words. Some of you need to stop watching Fox News and get your heads out of the pundant quick sand. Real nice to blame the innocent from the comfort of your warm, safe, house.

Thanks. I found some of the comments on this thread outrageous too.
