Warriors WISHing for Spring!

DrMom~ glad to hear you found a group to run with!
SarahRose~ Glad you like DL and have a toddler trip planned to go back- I enjoyed my days there in Jan.

I actually ran for the first time Monday. Our cross fit class did a running cardio day and my knee didn't hurt (except when I tried to go a bit faster than I should- evidently). Today I'm going to try to get at least a mile on my legs - even if I have to do it after class (or before? if I have time)

Back home from the W & D Relay that I did with my Luscious, Lovely Bride.

2:15 total time for the 2 of us. She walked (fast!!!!) the 4.8 in just under 62 minutes & I ran the 8.4 in 1:13. Hips hurt. Need training. Nice Medal. COOL temp.

Very Proud of the Boss. She completed her portion about 10 minutes faster than she had anticipated!

Congratulations on the race!! Sorry your hips are bothering you!

Pam - Glad you're feeling better!
Jim - Sounds like a fun time!!! CONGRATS on a good race.

My training has been slightly derailed since my oldest child is in the hospital. We're hoping he'll be discharged in the next day or 2. Prayers appreciated! I did get a 6 mile run done on Saturday at a faster pace than I've been running (maybe the stress over having a sick child propelled me...). I'm running a local half marathon this Sunday. I've pretty much decided that this will be a training run for my January marathon. I did a 13 miler a few weekends ago so I know I can go the distance but my speed hasn't been there at all. I don't want to risk injury so I'm going to take it easy.

Amanda

Prayers on the way for your sick child DrMom- good luck on the local half.

Anyone have experience with knee pain after surgery- if it stops hurting while I'm running (about a half mile in it stops hurting) is that a good thing? or should I still be discussing this with the Dr ? I hate to have to keep an appointment if they are going to try to convince me to have a shot of anything - which I don't want.

Amanda I hope your little one is ok! Lots of fairy dust and warm wishes for you.

jim great work to both you and your wife! 10mins off her time is awesome :goodvibes

Pam Sorry I can't answer your question really, my physio said to me that you can easily fall into something like a negative pattern where it takes more time for it to stop hurting during the run and then aches for longer and longer afterwards. That's what you have to look out for.

Sarah sorry the course didn't let you run much of the race but at least you really enjoyed it! So excited that you're headed back.

I've been running 3 miles at a time now and have signed up for our local santa dash with some colleagues, so that's my aim. Sadly it's only 4km- how my targets have changed :rotfl:

Hi all - Haven't posted here for a while.

Sarah - Good meeting you as well.

Jim - Congratulation on the W&D

Amanda- Hope your kid is doing better.

Kate - Hope the running is going well.

AFM - Running has been sporadic since DL. I've been working primarily on continuous running without walk breaks. On Monday I finally made it 3 miles with a walk break. Yesterday was on the TM (hate the thing) at the gym on campus. It's hot in the room and only ended up doing 2 miles, including warmup and cooldown. Today I did a 6 mile long run. I did run/walk the first 4.5 miles and then ran 1 mile before cool down. I think I'm going to try and get into a pattern on 1 day all running, 1 day run/walk, and a long run run/walk in the beginning with a "fast finish" all run at the end.

Hi Warriors,

Sorry I have not posted for awhile. Finally I am back to my true training times. While DH was away in Texas (watching the grandsons for 9 weeks) I did some workouts but not much. Could feel it at the W&D.

Went out Sunday for our distance walk and then yesterday we did our walk but I did some sprint walking. John said his watch read in the low 13:cool1:

We will be going to Orlando this weekend and staying at the Tropical Palms RV resort. My daughter is chairperson for Spina Bifida of Central Florida and they have a Walk N Roll this weekend, which we are going to help out. It will make it easy with the RV up there, so that my daughters 4 children would be able to go in and relax. She will be very busy busy before setting up and then of course taking everything down. They are trying to raise money so that they can help other families with SB:banana:

Hope everyone is doing well. Our next race is the Space Coast half that my DD will join us at.

Kathy

Kathy - I hope the SB fundraiser goes well! We take care of many spina bifida patients in my office.

I'm getting back into my training as well. We've had some difficult times at my house - my son being sick, the boiler breaking, the dog being diagnosed with a tumor, etc. Things are slowly getting better (we have heat today, for example!) and I'm trying to make running a priority.
My half marathon was ok. Not a PR or anything but it was a fun day. I decided to use a run one minute/walk one minute strategy since it was a hot day and I was feeling under-trained. About one mile into the race, I was joined by a very nice (and experienced) runner who had injured his calf and was considering dropping out. When he saw me taking regular walk breaks, he decided to come talk to me. We ended up running the whole race together. I usually run alone and I really enjoyed having company! I finished around 2:40 which isn't terrible.
I did a 10 mile run last weekend which was as much walk as run. My run yesterday was good though. 3 miles at 12 min/mile. Pretty fast for me!

Amanda

Amanda Your half marathon sounds great, especially as you felt undertrained. I have only ever been joined by other runners at Disney races, never anywhere else and I agree it makes such a difference. At WDW a WISHer joined me from mile 8 to the end and I'll never forget that! So helpful :D Sorry to read that things have been difficult recently for you though, at least it can only get better hey!

Kathy blimey  you're sprint walking is amazing! Well done!!! Hope you had a wonderful time in orlando for the event and raised lots of awareness and cash :)

Jeremy thanks for checking in on me :goodvibes Your week plan looks really well balanced, I think I remember reading somewhere that each run should have a purpose but that they shouldn't all be intense.

Everyone else I hope you're doing ok.

Me still stuck at around 3 miles, had an xray due to pain that won't budge which confirmed that I definitely had a fracture in my cuboid but that it's pretty much HEALED! So i can get on with training with more confidence. Any one else find that once you know you're ok it's possible to tolerate a lot more pain? Sometimes uncertainty that I might be harming myself made me stop sooner than I would have hoped.
soooooo the santa dash is booked with some colleagues and we have a 10km in London next year that I'm doing with my hubby! :yay: I love the fact that we're back in winter training, why am I only fit to train in the cold, wind and rain?!?!?! :lmao:

Amanda and Kate...Thank you for the best wishes regarding the SB Walk and Roll. :thumbsup2 Kathy and I got to the park at 5:35AM and the rain was just letting up but as the set up work started so did the rain. Poured like crazy but the turn out was fantastic. Huge success and next year if the sun shines the event should be even larger.

It's been 7 months today since my bicycle crash and got the definitive answer about my shoulder problems from the ortho. Short of a shoulder replacement, nothing will provide relief from pain, cracking or limited movement. Next week I find out if I can expect any further improvement with my neck, same symptoms as shoulder.

Three weeks and 4 days is the Space Coast 1/2 Marathon and really looking forward to it since DD will be joining us.

Kate, even though healing has occurred, pain is the way the body tells us, easy does it.

Amanda, good vibes being sent to calm things down in your household.

Hoping everyone stays healthy and has great training days ahead.

Kate~ good luck with the foot- make sure you aren't doing harm elsewhere if your cuboid is healed, especially if you're still having pain.

John~ good luck to you too! I hope you get answers and relief you can live with.

As for me~ my knee still swells and hurts if I step on that leg is a certian position but otherwise low level swelling is all I have now. I wear a brace when I run to help control the swelling, and am back to 2 miles hoping to up it to 3 in the next couple of weeks.

I hope everyone else is having good training and running!

Hi All

Kathy - Glad to hear your getting back in the swing of things.

Amanda - Hope things are continuing to get back to normal.

Kate - Glad things are healing for you.

John - Hope you can continue to heal.

Pam - Hope your leg is feeling better.

AFM - I'm still plugging away. I've ended up doing a 3 - 3.5 mile run 2 days a week without walk breaks, and a longer 6-7 run/walk on the weekends. I'm noticing a definate decrease again in my average pace. I'm not sure if I'm running any faster, but with fewer walk breaks, I'm running more. This Saturday, I have a 5K at the local college. I'm planning on it being my first 5K without a walk break. I should be able to get a new PR but I'm planning on taking it easy the first couple of miles to make sure I can finish without walking.

Hey there Warriors!

Jeremy: Good luck on a speedy 5K!

Pam: Hope that knee is doing better! Don't push too hard if it's still swelling and hurting!

Kate: Way to get back out there! I know when I dislocated my cuboid a few years ago, it seemed to take a long time for the pain to go away. I still have to wear custom heat-molded insoles, or else it bugs me on long runs. Hope it's feeling better soon - and yay for being signed up for races!

John and Kathy: Have fun at Space Coast!

AFM, I'm joining the leagues of out of commission Warriors (there seem to be a lot of us right now!) for this year. I was feeling really out of sorts during the DL half marathon a couple months ago and.... yup, I'm pregnant. :lmao: We'll be having another little Warrior in the spring. :lovestruc Unfortunately, I've developed hyperthyroidism as part of this pregnancy; I've been getting really light-headed and dizzy and overheating when I work out at anything more than a moderate walk, so I've been ordered to take it easy. My doctor is just watching my levels right now, and we're hopeful that things will work themselves out now that I'm in my second trimester. *crossing fingers* I ran the Goofy at 12 weeks pregnant with my son - it's hard to believe that this pregnancy is so much different! :rotfl:

Hope everyone is doing well. Take it easy, injured Warriors!

Sarah Rose- congratulations on the new warrior! I hope you're feeling back to your own self sooner than the 6 more months for the arrival.
Johde- good luck on the 5 K

I'm running more with less problems- I'm not sure it's finally healing or the glucosamine and condroiten (SP) I've been taking are kicking in LOL. I've gone 3 miles and am back to working out 4-5 days a week (2-3 days running and 3 days of Crossfit) sometimes I count the run as my cardio for crossfit.

Sarah - Congratulation on expecting.

Pam - Good to hear your feeling better. I've been taking Glucosamine and condroitin as well. I find it helps quite a bit.

AFM - I finished my 5K in 36:29. A new PR by a little over 2 minutes. I also ran the entire way. I took the race fairly conservatively. I was a little bit fast at the beginning but it was downhill. After that I was able to settle into a pace for most of the rest of the race until the kick at the end.

Happy Saturday Warriors!!

It's been a few days since I have posted.

Mostly because not much is going on here.

Starting multi-sport training in earnest. Doing some bike/run bricks 2-3 times a week. And I actually made it into the pool yesterday for a 1 K swim. Obviously been a while since I have been swimming and it was obvious.

I've pretty much committed to doing the Florida 70.3 next year, whether it is in DW or (supposedly) Haines City to the southwest, so pool (or ocean) time is a necessity

I've got the St Augustine 10K next Saturday & the Space Coast 1/2 on Sunday after T'giving, then DW Marathon weekend.

Everyone stay safe, healthy & uninjured!!

Sarah_Rose-congratulations another time.

Pam-if it works for you, stick with it.

Jeremy-way cool. :cool1:

JimB-glad you finally got wet. See you at Space Coast

As for us, Kathy and I will be getting out tommorrow after dinner for a 8 or 9 miler. No major speed since she has not trained as well as she should have because things have gotten in the way and besides, there is plenty of time at the Space Coast 1/2. January at WDW will be a different story though.

I got out Wednesday with a friend and biked 73 miles. On the way back we had an Ironman guy fly by us on the path so I bridged the gap and we went a few miles at 24. Came to a cross street and he flew through it while we slowed and then had to bridge again. As we got closer I told my friend I was going to pass him so I upped it to 26 and pulled for a while. Not too long since we already had 50+ miles in. Pulled out and friend takes over then he pulls out and as tri-guy passes me I tell him great pace. He ups it to 28 and he's GONE! We continued then saw him coming back towards us. I gave him a big thumbs up and he returns it. Must have surpised him to see a couple of 60+yo fogies.:rotfl:

Made it out today for a 13.25 mile walk. Finished in 2:15:54. Not what I was hoping for since I am looking for a 2:00:00 at Space Coast but still have 2 weeks to get faster. NOT!!!

I have been reading that the 70.3 will not be at WDW and if so it will be a no go for me.

Lots of congrats here!
Sorry your 2nd pregnancy is so much harder Sarah. I had a similar experience.
Glad you're feeling better Pam.
Great job Jeremy!
Jim and John - you both continue to amaze and inspire me!

I'm recovering from a back injury and I'm a bit behind in my training. I had to walk my 14 miler from last weekend (at 14 min/mile pace - so not terrible). I ran 6 miles today and felt good. The longer runs for marathon training are really hard to schedule! My job has been insanely busy on top of everything else. Next weekend is a 17 miler and I'm going to do it no matter what!!!
My son is doing much, much better. Still lots of follow-up appointments but we are happy with how things are going. We adopted 2 kittens for him and I really feel that has aided his recovery.

Amanda
