Warriors WISHing for Spring!

Thank you so much and excellent calculation!!!!

I just thought I'd pop on to say hello to you all for the first time as a wifey!!! :yay: Had such an amazing day, there are a few pics appearing on facebook for you guys who are friends on there. I'll try to pop some on when we get back from honeymoon. We finally set off to WDW on tuesday :goodvibes

I hope you're enjoying your honeymoon!!!

Hello fellow Warriors,

Been a long time since I posted. Been really really hot here in the midwest this summer (I know it's been hot everywhere). Only a little over two weeks until the Disneyland 1/2. Have done all of my training early early mornings to try and beat the heat.

We sailed on the Disney Dream last month for the first time. What a wonderful fantastic time we had!!! We even bought into DVC while on board. We listened to their presentation, and the went back to our state room to discuss it. After we added up just what we have spent the last three years on Disney vacations it was a no brainer to join DVC. Should have done it many years ago.

Hope you all are healthy or getting there. Hope to see some of you at Disneyland.

Stan

Welcome back!
We're gone back and forth on DVC over the years. My DH is undecided but leaning against. I'm leaning towards. ;)

Hi Warriors ~

It's been a LOOOOONNNNGGGG time since I checked in, but I just wanted to congratulate Kate!

:cheer2:CONGRATULATIONS!!:cheer2:

Come back more often! :thumbsup2

Hi Warriors!

CONGRATULATIONS KATE!!!! :goodvibes I saw some pictures on Facebook (we need a stalking smiley) and you looked gorgeous! Hope you're enjoying your honeymoon!

We're 2 weeks until the DL half marathon and I'm getting excited! I'm totally undertrained, but it'll happen. It might not be fast or pretty, but it'll happen. I've avoided the DL half for the last few years because I KNEW that I wouldn't run through the summer, and I was totally right! :rolleyes1

I did my first triathlon last weekend and had a lot of fun! My swim (800m) was 20 minutes, my bike (12 miles) was 58 minutes and my run (5K) was 38 minutes - for a total of 2:07 with the transitions. I'm really happy with my swim and 'meh' about the run, but the bike killed me. It really drove home how I will need a decent road bike if I'm going to do anything longer than a sprint. My hybrid bike is fine for commuting and riding for fun, but it was painful when I was pedalling on my highest gear on a downhill... and I got passed by two people coasting. :scared1:

Looking forward to seeing those who will be at the DL half in a couple weeks! We'll need to have at least a quick Warrior meet up!

CONGRATS on your triathlon! And I hope you ENJOY the half at DL. I wish I could be there (although we're heading to WDW in less than a week so I can't really complain).

Amanda

I've been feeling a little burned out the last few weeks. Work has been stressful and I haven't found running to help with the stress. It's almost been like another obligation. In addition I had some unexpected dental surgery (minor) which has been very painful.
With that background I was not super excited about my 9 mile run yesterday. However the weather was glorious and I was able to run outside. It felt pretty good and I feel I little more encouraged. I completed the run in 2:02:17 which isn't a bad training pace for me. I have a 1/2 marathon in early October which I treating as a training run for the January marathon. I think if I can run 9 miles now, I'll be in very good shape for the 1/2 in October.
I don't think I would do well with summer races in NY but I realize that I need more races to keep me motivated! ;)

Amanda

Kate hope you are enjoying your honeymoon

Today ( 2 weeks out from DL) I walked a 10K at a pace at 15:16:woohoo: The only problem I had wasw burning of the feet a toes hurting. I guess that is what happens because of getting a little faster. It was very quiet without my walking partner.

Hi Warrior - Noticed it's been a while since I posted an update. Highlights from the last couple of week.

August 12th - Did a 15 mile training run to get ready for the Disneyland half. Decided to do a fast finish and did the 14th mile pretty close to race pace.

Aug. 20th- Did 7 miles with 5.5 of them at goal pace. Did a 12:30 pace for the 5.5 miles. The first 5 miles was run/walk the .5 was all running. So now I've officially entered taper (ie don't do anything stupid) phase of my training. Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet a few of you at Disneyland.

Happy Friday Warriors!!

A nice Friday from "Gee we are glad Irene did not hit us" Florida. My thoughts & prayers to all our countrymen up north in the path. Ironically, 3 days ago my brother asked me if I needed to evacuate up to his place...................

In Washington DC.

Anyway. training is spotty due to the heat. Have had 2 6+ mile runs in the last week & did a 36 mile bike ride 2 days ago. I had to choke up some $$ for bike repairs (I'm actually wearing stuff on it out!!), so it was my first real ride in about 10 days.

Nothing on the schedule until the W&D Relay with my luscious, lovely DW. Then The Space Coast 1/2 & Disney 1/2 + Marathon Relay (2/3 of a Goofy?).

Jeremy (& Kathy too....) - Have fun @ the DisneyLand 1/2. You guys will do great! I did this one last year & sooooooooo want to go back, but, living in FLorida makes WDW easy, but DL a challenge. Hopefully no later than 2013.

Hi Warriors,

I'm back at school (subbing) and trying to work up the enthusiasm for the elliptical. I hope to get a mile or 2 on the new knee starting next week. I may try treadmill first (although I dislike them) because it should be easier on the knee- but I also may just hit the track or road. My Dr is on vaca this week (when my post op appointment should be) so I'm thinking he'll say I can start running next week when he's back LOL.

Those of you in the path of the storms stay safe- my prayers are with you.

those of you going to DL for the half- Happy Racing

Jim~ I'd like to be able to wish you cooler weather for training, but that would defeat my purpose for going to Fl when the weather here is snowy and icey . LOL (I love being able to go out in the dark in Fl for a run, especially at WDW where I feel safe.)

Hey everyone!

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back on here, but back I am! Had such a wonderful honeymoon and was extremely sad to be back at work on friday, but the arrival of my baby niece made being home a lot better. I caught myself looking up homes in Orlando again, must stop thinking about that!!!

Thank you for all of the lovely messages, if anyone has lots of time on their hands feel free to have a look at out photos at www.jasonhowardphotography.co.uk. Just go to guest login, click on kate and nathan and our new surname is Williams! There are a lot so you may want to skip a few!

Stan it's lovely to see you and to know that you're running at DL. Good luck to you, hope you have a wonderful time.

Marcia thanks so much for coming over! Please come again soon!

Pam glad to hear the knee is progressing, I love the prediction of what your Dr will say! Fingers crossed, be careful though!

Jim that is ironic! Hope your brother was ok. It was very hot over there last week although not as bad as i had expected! I think we overhyped the weather before going. Only actually got rained on twice! I think your schedule looks great, it's nice to have a bit of down time from races every now and again.

Jeremy happy taper time, have a fab race. It sounds like you are very much ready and raring to go!

Kathy WHOOOO for your pace, that is fabulous.

Amanda your 9 miler was great and should really have encouraged you for the october race. Sorry things have been stressful. If you need a vent please do!

I managed 4 runs whilst at POFQ, just 2 laps of the trail which i think is around 2.5miles. Foot managed most of the time, few painful days but with so much walking I'm quite proud of how well it coped!

Good Evening Warriors

Just got home from DL. We left Monday and drove for 13 hours back to El Paso, TX were I left my husband for 6 more weeks and then flew home today.

The 1/2 marathon was alot harder than I thought it would be. The overpasses were tough on me and going down just as bad. The entry into Angels stadium I felt as if I would roll down the hill. When you live in southwest Florida there are no hills except for the bridges over the intercoastal so even overpasses are hills to me.

My time was not as bad as I thought they might have been. I finished at 3:36:57. I was only 2 min off of the DW time so I can not complain. I did get my C2C:cool1: and that is what I really wanted.

Congratulations to all who did the DL half.

Kathy

From El Paso.....Way to go, DW!!!!:cool1::cool1:

Happy Thursday Warriors!

This week has seen the first "not really sweltering" days in about 3 months. Down to the low 70's + drier air in the mornings. I did about 45 miles on the bike on Monday, then 6.5 Mile run yesterday ( my longest run since the Jax River Run in April).

Today I did 21 miles on the bike followed by about 4.5 mile run followed by ZERO time swimming. Ahhhhhh. Some things never change. I WILL get back in the water. Someday.

Congrats to all the "Disneyland 1/2" Warriors!!! I am so envious that I wasn't there this year. Hopefully I'll get to do it again soon, possibly 2013. It is probably my single favorite race I have ever done.

Jim, great job but start with the swim next time :lmao:

Kathy and I are glad we did DL and got our C2C but we will never go back even if was offered free to us. Just did not really get into it like WDW. Guess the enjoyment we get being at WDW is almost impossible to top since we have been going there 30+ years.

Congratulations to the Disneyland Warriors!

I was supposed to do the very first DL half but my daughter decided to get married that weekend (only weekend the chapel had open darn) so I missed it.

I saw the Dr this week and was told my surgery was more extensive than the last and the pain I'm still having is not unexpected (except by me evidently). So I am oked to try to run if it doesn't hurt to badly- so far I haven't figured out a pain management system- I'll try again today.

I'm subbing in PE full time now for a teacher that's having a hip replacement today- so I'll be getting more exercise and more "foot time" anyway.

CONGRATS to the DL runners! I'm really trying to convince DH that we should go next year.... :rolleyes1
Pam - Feel better!

I have run very little in the last 2 weeks. We had a wonderful week in Disney World, despite having to leave NY a day early to escape Irene (btw, who would have thought that we'd escape a hurricane by going from NY to Florida???) and we had a sick child at either end of the trip. I thought I'd get some running done on vacation but the sick kids did me in. And they kindly shared the bad cold with me so I took it easy this week (luckily I avoided the vomiting aspects of this particular ailment!).
I managed 10 miles on Monday but it was slow going and I walked more than I ran. It wasn't a good run at all but I did it anyway and that's what counts! This is our 1st week back to school so it's a bit hectic as we try to figure out the schedules. I hoping by this weekend I'll get back on track (literally and figuratively!). I decided NOT to feel guilty about my time off and to just jump back in where I left off!

Amanda

Kathy and John - Congratulation on the DL half and CTC medals.

I'm back from California and had a good vacation, even if I didn't do as well in the race as I'd hoped. I ended up finishing in 3:11:25, that's my worst finish in a half marathon that included running. Disneyland was a lot of fun even though DCA was all tore up with construction. It should be much better once Carsland opens up.

Jeremy I am very glad that you finished also and congratulations:banana:.

I did not do as well as I thought I might, the hills (overpasses) killed me. I still am having issues with my toes:confused3. I have tingling in them that I never had for the other half marathons.

I am going to my running store tomorrow to see if they can give me any hints. I need to be ready for the W & D.

Hope all Warriors are doing well.

Kathy

Jeremy and Kathy - Sorry DL didn't go as well as you'd hoped but another big congrats on finishing!

I did a 13 mile run yesterday morning. Sadly, I was "babysitting" my youngest so I was stuck on the treadmill. I finished in just under 3 hours and felt pretty good so that was encouraging!

Amanda

Jim, great job but start Just did not really get into it like WDW. Guess the enjoyment we get being at WDW is almost impossible to top since we have been going there 30+ years.

John I've had this problem too! Unfortunately my first races were in WDW and I've been thoroughly spoilt. I've told myself that apart from a re-run of London at some point, I will only do WDW marathons in the future. (It also saves me as I'll have to save a lot to get a sneaky trip in so won't be doing many!).

Amanda great work getting your 13miler in on a TM! That's very impressive!

Kathy I hope that the running shop give you a clue regarding your toes. Not an ideal feeling when you're running!

Jeremy I'm glad you had a good vacation and well done for finishing the half!!!!

Me bored of not running properly.... so I went to try yoga today! Waaayyyy to much relaxation for my liking, but really useful stretches. My body is much tighter on the side that I always injure so that makes sense I guess. I'll try to go weekly!

Oh and I just had my last exam for the Masters!!! My viva actually went ok so feel quite relieved!

Kate: Yay on the Masters and yay on the yoga! I've never been able to get into yoga - way too much relaxation for me, too. It actually makes me more anxious, having to pay attention to my breathing! :lmao:

Amanda: Hurray for 13 miles!

Jeremy: Nice meeting you at DL! Congrats on your DL finish - warm, wasn't it?

John and Kathy: Congrats on the DL half! We were actually shocked that we preferred DL to WDW. So weird! I did miss Epcot, but overall I liked DL better than MK and I liked how small and compact and easy everything is. We'll definitely continue going back to WDW, but DL is our new go-to park.

Our motto for the DL half was "start slow, and taper from there" and we stuck to it. :lmao: We were totally undertrained, and it was just way too hot for me out there. Also, there seemed to be a lot of really long "choke stretches" where it was just impossible to pass. We ended up giving up the ghost on actually running it around mile 6, and just kind of meandered our way through the rest of the race. :lmao: Finish in 3:12, which is my longest non-pregnant half marathon.*

Anyway, as I mentioned above, we LOVED DL. We got home and immediately started discussing when we could go back. We found a flight from SEA to Orange County for $83, so we booked it. We're staying at the Carousel Inn (literally right across the street from the main entrance) for December 3-6. It's going to be a toddler trip, which means that it'll be low on thrill rides and heavy on nap time, but we're really looking forward to going back. I can't wait to see the Christmas decorations!

Hope everyone is doing awesome! Keep up the great work, Warriors!

* Or so I thought. ;)

Kate - Congrats on your Masters!!!
Sarah - Congrats on finishing DL half. Sorry that the race was a little frustrating but it sounds like you found the fun in it. So jealous of your toddler trip to DL!

I went to my running group last night. I've been close to quitting because I've been having trouble keeping up. I downgraded myself to the run/walk group and had a great time! We did run 6 minutes/walk 1. It was a decent pace - maybe slightly slower than I would do on my own. I was just thrilled to find a group where I'm not struggling to keep up!
