Warning- daily safety and security room check

Did you experience a room check at the casino hotel? Just because they have a sign saying that they have a right to enter the room at any time for any reason, it doesn’t mean they WILL enter it daily.

And just because they don’t give you a letter stating that they can doesn’t mean they don’t. Hotel staff (at all hotels) has ALWAYS had permission to enter rooms. It’s in the fine print of your room rental agreement.

But unless you simply stay in your room the whole entire stay of your vacation, you will not know if they did or didn’t. It’s like me saying “I have a book on my desk. Prove I opened it.”

IMO the checks are more of a show for litigation purposes, many of the CM's that we have had inspect didn't even know what they were checking. Sometimes they show up, sometimes they don't. By the way, they can bypass the security latch.

In my opinion you are right about it being a show, since thd policy seems to be handled inconsistently one CM to another and at different resorts. I imagine using the latch does give you a bit more time to get to the door unless they seriously think there is something life threatening going on in your room.

In the past year, I have stayed at resorts in both AC and Vegas and have been told when checking in or there was a note left in the room (depending on the resort) that if our Do Not Disturb sign was out and housekeeping didn't come into our room, there would be a security check.

We declined Mouse Keeping at the contemporary and the Poly for 2 days in a row and we received follow up calls from the Mouse Keeping head about whether we needed anything. So they notice when you refuse or minimize intrusions. We had a CM come with an iPad to check the room with a Mouse Keeper, but we said we were showering and going to the park so she said she would pop back later. We experienced no issues staying between the Poly and the Contemporary for 8 days.

I am sure you are right, they come in when we are gone all the time. I personally never previously imagined my room was off limits for staff doing what they need to do. I limit what I bring in the valuables department on vacation and just use the safe for what few valuables I do have and go on my way. I just haven’t ever experienced someone walking in on me until this year’s trip. It’s a learning curve especially from years of DVC stays with limited housekeeping. You could grab the towels and hand the trash over on the fourth day at the door. It’s a big change and a surprise when someone like the OP hadn’t know about the new policy. Thanks.

Just because they could bypass the security latch doesn't mean they do. I think the big concern is people who have the door latched 24/7 and people who always leave the room occupied sign up to avoid people coming into the room even when not there.

I think you are right, I don’t think they are bypassing it indiscriminately or there would be reports. As said above, triggers for concern from Disney’s perspective seem to be refusing HK (even though they offer gift cards for opting out at certain level resorts) and leaving the sign up day after day. Not sure though how the staff would know if the latch is on 24/7.

Triggers for concern from the guests side seem to be receiving knocks/calls/visits in the am after attending Disney events that extend into the late hours and knocks/interruptions during rest/ nap/private adult times. Thanks

I’m at Pop now. It doesn’t seem to matter if you opt out of housekeeping or not. Security has been knocking.
I was at Pop In april and had housekeeping and I never ever got a knock on the door. I even out the "room occupied" out there during my visit or stay and nothing at all. I was in the 90's section. One of the newer rooms. I know as my trip got closer I got worries this would be happen but never once did it happen and never really did I even see it happening as I walked around the resort a few times.

Glad you weren’t impacted. It’s confusing to me that guests’ experiences vary so extremely. Did you say above you did use the RO sign some or throughout your stay? Thanks.

It’s all very hit and miss and I think many will have completely different experiences. We are currently at Pop for two weeks. We have opted out of housekeeping and tour the parks mostly late afternoon til park closing. We’ve havent put our room occupied sign out at all. Nobody came to our door for the first six days of our stay. Now security has come everyday for the past five days. Maybe we’ll never see them again. Who knows.

Yes I had to sign on there quite a few times actually. Also there were at least two days of my eighth day stay that I didn't get any housekeeping at all. No one bothered to come in to do the garbage, or change the towels or anything. I had to go down to the pool at one point they get a towel or two. I do remember that one of the days when I had the signs on I did see housekeeping Four Doors Down and they skipped me altogether. I said hello to the lady and when I came back in the park my room was still like it was when I left it. So not sure why it's different in my case or yours doesn't make sense at all but it would frustrate me to have security come in and check no matter what. I know it's good to be safe and everything but if I was sleeping I would be frustrated.

I think like you said it's very hit-and-miss on what happens. The thing that is strange for me is that I traveled as a solo so I kind of expected it to happen to me but it never did. I guess then I was a bit lucky and to be honest happy I wasn't bothered.

That’s frustrating that HK skipped you those 2 days. Sounds like you took it in stride, and still had a great time. Hopefully, housekeeping will be better during future trips.

It happens more then people know imo. It's frustrating but what can you do. I personally think hk has gone down the last few years.

I will be in a DVC unit, so I won't be getting anything other than trash removal.
Ok, I don't care if they come in when we are gone, kinda rather they did.

We stayed at POLY DVC unit end of July and even though we don't like anyone in the room and put out the "new" room occupied sign on outside door handle they have a new rule when it comes to
trash as they come for it everyday. Its a way for them to check the room. Since we didn't go to the parks during this stay, just laid by the pool I was always the last out of the room. Each morning
there was a knock at the door from housekeeping which in turn I opened the door and was asked any trash. During that same moment of them asking from outside of the door they would take a quick glance into the room.
I would rather them do it while I'm there because like I said don't like anyone in the room during our stay. I understand why they have to do it as the nuts in the world screwed it up for the rest of us just like
everything else that has changed in the world today. Whether I like it or not is for another time but I do understand it on a legal status. Think if something happens all the people will be running around blaming Disney
that they did nothing to prevent it. Just like the alligator situation....hello....florida=alligator=snakes=watch you kids and realize your not in Kansas anymore...sorry just had to say it.

After the Vegas shooting, Disney's liability lawyers decided that it would be less expensive to do room checks versus paying hundreds of millions in claims should a shooting happen on Disney property. Some guests will be upset but others will praise Disney for their caring about guest safety.

I this this response all the time but if this were the real issue, why wasn’t this policy implemented at DLR? IMO if someone wanted to repeat that awful Las Vegas stunt, any of the DLR hotels are more vulnerable. So why aren’t room checks happening there? Sorry, if someone has already asked this.

I don't care if they want to inspect my room, but they should leave it the way they found it. I leave one light on when I leave because I have vision problems, not to mention that it makes me feel safer entering my room; I don't want it shut off. On my upcoming trip I will be taping a note over the switch to leave it on. Also as a solo, female traveler it is disconcerting to come back to a room where the door to the vanity/sink area is drawn closed and the bathroom door is also closed when I left both open. I know it is unlikely that anyone is hiding in wait, but my mind goes there and it's downright frightening. I ended up putting something to hold the door open so I had an exit route while I opened the doors they had shut. The fact that I felt unsafe in made me so mad, especially since it happened 3 days in a row after I complained each day!

Disney staff should respect requests so you feel safe. It is outrageous that they didn’t upon repeated occasions. I travel solo a good bit myself, and I have a close friend who has limited vision, so I understand your concerns. I hope your note is successful during your next trip.

That's because it's unlikely that staff is "barging in" and that this claim is highly exaggerated.

I agree, however I bet that the few times it may have occured raised Cain! You generally hear more about unpleasant experiences, which are often embellished when repeated.

Personally, while I have no objections to the policy, I do think that disney should have put more thought into how they implemented the plan, and then been more consistant in how they managed it.
