Walking Poly?

I have been trying to book standard Poly beginning May 1. Not being fast enough, I have been beat out daily, and watched the rooms go one day at a time, like a walker. But there are 270 standard Poly rooms! Apparently 270 people are walking? So I am hoping, waiting they will walk past, and release, but so far they haven't. Today, finally, as the 9th disappeared, the 8th was released. I am so hopeful more will be released. Silly of me perhaps, but with 270 standard rooms, I did not expect to have to go through all of this. I am tired of getting up early to not get my room. If it is not walkers, why are they disappearing only one day at a time, all 270?
There are worse things in the world, it is not do-or-die. Just curious how 270 rooms all disappear daily. But then maybe 200,000 DVC members are also trying, and 270 are succeeding! Haha.

No. 270 people are not walking. May is 7 months away and many Poly owners booked their reservations during their home resort booking window. Walking really doesn't happen at 7 months.

It showed availability for all dates before May 1, and has been going one day at a time. I realize walking doesn't usually happen at 7 months, and Poly owners may have booked 269 rooms before May 1. But as I said, it showed full availability, and they haven't gone in chunks of 5 days or a week like a normal reservation may be, they have gone one day at a time. The weekend, higher points, is there.

Did dates preceding today's date open up? If not, then it's not walking. Walkers move their reservations forward, leaving a day or days that they had previously reserved open.

ETA: Never mind. After re-reading your OP, it appears that some walking is occurring. But walking at 7 months bears a lot of risk in that those who own at the resort will always have the ability to interrupt a walk by booking up the rooms and leaving a hole in the availability calendar.

I'm sure there are plenty who walk at 7 months. I'm guilty of doing that several years ago when I wanted to book at one-bedroom at VGC. Got to within a week and was nervous I wouldn't get the nights I wanted, so I started walking at 7 months.

Hopefully, whoever is doing the walking will walk right over the dates you want. What nights do you want?

I was able to switch several nights over to poly for trip beginning 9/23 Approx 6 weeks prior to arrival when a a large block of studios opened up. Saw them available for some time Before I switched things around.

In that case believe it may have been recently renovated rooms going back into service.

However, keep your options open, book something, WL what you want & keep checking yourself.

Yeah, May 1-5 is fully booked. That's not walking, that's demand.

But I see what you are saying about May 9. That's booked and looks to be walking. I suggest booking May 8 now and then trying to modify that reservation tomorrow to book May 8 and 9. Try a few times for May 9. People who walk don't necessarily walk first thing in the morning, and there's a possibility that May 9 will free up later in the day.

Keep trying that every day until you (hopefully) can get May 8-13.

The 7 month day disappearing but the 7 month +1 day being available is normal. All that means is that someone has a reservation that is set to end that following day (their room wouldn't be available to book the 7 month day but becomes available the following day). Then the next day everyone is fighting for whatever room(s) might be opening at that 7 month date. It could just be one room that is available for that 7 month start date and then there could be more the following day.

If what you are seeing 7-months out is the room filling quickly for the initial day that is 7-months out but still left open days after, then the issue is not really walking. What is going on is that the rooms are essentially filled. What is left for any given day is the amount of rooms by which check-outs for the given day still exceed check-ins, a total number of rooms that can be very low.

When the following days are there and bookable, many if not most people book at least a few of the following days, not just one day. I think Poly is the only place with such a large amount of one type of room, 270 standard studio. Value or Club at AKV, or even Boardwalk view studio, have so few, you expect to have such competition. I did not expect such competition with 270 rooms.

Let's say a few of us have reservations made 11 months out. Mine ends May 1, someone else's ends May 2, another ends May 3. You go to book May 1st and my room is coming open so there is one room to book and someone gets it. They may book 7 nights but that's fine because there is availability due to my room now being empty. The other 2 rooms are still booked but one is coming open tomorrow so there is availability showing that following day as a result of that room opening up tomorrow. Now you try to book a reservation the following day and again someone else gets the room that was opening May 2nd. The third room is coming available the following day so those days are still available meaning that the 3rd will still show as available. Now multiply that out over a whole bunch of rooms with varying checkout dates and a lot of people trying to get whatever rooms are coming open on a given day.

It means some are walking and others are grabbing whatever they can for that week.

May is a popular month since it is the cheapest (DVC) springtime month.

Thanks. I just saw this. I am glad someone else saw it.
I didn't even get up at 6:15. Gave up trying. Figured if I caught dropped rooms later, in the next 5 months, great, if not, I will be very happy with my AKV.
But you know I had to look, so checked at almost 8 my time, 9Eastern. May 8-13 was available. I quickly tried to book it, made it through a couple of the "are you sure?" steps, "what contract do you want to use?", etc. Then it came back and said there was an error, try again. I did and 5/9 was gone (must have missed it by miliseconds since I got so far in booking).
I booked 5/10-13 and waitlisted 5/9. (I had booked 5/8 yesterday). About 9:50 I looked again, and 5/9 had returned and 5/10 was gone. So I grabbed 5/9. Now i have all the nights I wanted. And I still think it is strange the one night at a time progression of booking and opening up of previously booked room.

I just looked again at 11:26 and it is all back again, except 5/1 and 5/3-5. Looks like I didn't need to get up early any morning as I couldn't beat the faster computers anyway. It is all such a matter of timing or luck sometimes.
