Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

ok were did my Mickey go again. It was there yesterday, now it is gone.

klh-or-- Congratulations on your 8 miler.

Dave--- I'm sure that you and Erica will do well with the Goofy since you have been training hard and know what it is you need to do to accomplish that goal.

Jeanne-- Congratulations on completing your 16 miler. Gosh girl if you don't slow down you have to pull me along. I think I like doing the longer walks on the TM as I can actually pace myself better. I tend to go to fast outside for those long walks and then either I am struggling the last couple miles or am exhausted and sore at the end.

Susie--- Good job on your 8 miler.

At 7am today it was cold, damp and wet so went to the gym and staked out claim on one of the TM for the next 3 1/2 hours and did my 14 miles. I had a good book which made the time go by fast. I almost stayed on to do extra miles to complete the book, but decided the heck with it 16 miles will come soon enough.

Enjoy what is left of the weekend.

Nancy

Jeanne, you will feel much better after you rest a bit. That's a lot in a short time. Your walking speed is amazing lady! You are getting stronger by leaps and bounds.

Susie, this bunch on here is nuts. Just no telling what they are going to come out with, I try to control them but they are wilder than a sack of bats.

The Goofy training with doing all the right extra is taking a toll on my social computer time, y'all needed a break from my sillyness anyway.

On the subject of abusing animals, tell you what I saw one time, (no it wasn't Bill jumping the pasture fence at night with a hand full of hay). I was walking along the river bank of the Red river down close to Lake Charles LA. An old cacun man was sitting on a rock fishing. He suddenly reached down and come up with a 4' cotton mouth water moccocian. He wipped it up in the air and snapped it like a wet towel, which killed it stone cold dead, tossed it over his shoulder and went back to his fishing.

Good night y'all.

Good morning WISH Team.

The book of good farming says today is a rest day for Pandas so I'll just have to do that. I'm meeting Erica in a few minutes for a decatent breakfast of veggie omlet, no cheese, homefries cooked with onions and sasuage patties at Bob Evans. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Then it's off to work. I read in the RW interview with Deana, our marathoner, that when she is not training she tries to stay off her feet as much as possible. I usually stand up or wander around the store at work, but today I'm going to sit as much as I can. With the 18 miler scheduled for tomorrow I want to have rested legs.

I'm just amazed at how well you guys are doing with your walking. I already knew that Wendy was awesome but I had no idea how well Denise, Jeanne and Nancy were doing. You Pretty Princesses and getting fast.

Have a great day and stay out of trouble today.

It was raining on and off yesterday as we walked to Sonoma(downtown plaza) from our room non stop for about 3.5 miles. Shin hurt so went and had lunch and a beverage at the Irish Pub. They were nice and gave me ice to put on the shin. Walked a little more around and did some wine tasting. Stopped and rested to eat dinner before the 2.5 mile walk back to our room. Total 7.56 miles. Shin sore this morning and not sure how it will take walking back to the plaza??? We I am icing again before we head out.

Thanks all for the good thoughts and great job on all your training:thumbsup2

Robert, my shins are sore when I do lots of miles. I use a rubber rolling pin to massage them. It's like using the stick. I start gently and roll them a bit then get progressively harder till the soreness is gone. It's the same as a massage therapist using her thumbs to press out the soreness. I do this all up and down my legs when I'm especially sore like the day after a race. I should have used iut at disney since I was sore the whole time.

Happy Vets day

Resting Panda:hippie:

Happy Veterans Day to all our Vets. The car wash in our town is giving free car washes to all Veterans. So Norm went down to get his done. It is nice that they do that every year.

Rest day for me and I feel like I have been on an eating marathon today and it isn't even 2pm.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Nancy

Well I found out in the last few weeks that rest is an important factor in gaining speed and stamina. I thought the more I worked the better I’d be. Well now that I follow the 12 week ½ marathon training schedule for runners but I do it power walking, I’m happier, less sore and my times are still the same or a bit better. Another plus is that I’m not as tired after the LW’s which makes me want to do them. I dreaded the LW’s because I was useless the rest of the day but Saturday after my 5 miles I was fine. 20 min rest and I was good to go.

Sunday was a rest day so tonight we are back on schedule for 4 miles, rest or cross tomorrow and then back at it Weds.

Have a good day all, I’m at work today but I only have 11 more days till Disney!!

denise.

P.S. I do have a “stick” for my shins and that plus ice really makes a difference. Sorry so many of you are hurting. 8 hour tylenol really works wonders on a lot of pain.

Good morning team.....anyone miss me???

Sorry I have been so busy with work and home this week just no time to get any posting in. Also missed my LW this weekend.....uuugggghhhhhhh

I haven't been up on the posts but hope you are all doing well and injury free.

Wow just over 8 weeks and I am back in Florida.....so excited about that....yippeeeeee

Kim

Denise you are absolutely right, rest is very important. That's why I have a hard time with doing distance and speed together. I can do one or the other in a workout but if I do both I need a couple of days of down time.

The saturday before we left for Disney I did a 10K at sub 12 min pace and then 2 days later drove 12 hours, then walked tons of miles at Disney and did the ToT. It's no wonder I was sore for a week after that.

I'm just now getting back to normal. I'm intrested to see how I'll feel today after this 18 miler. We are probably going to do about a 14:30 pace. That's fast enouth for right now.

Nancy, Connie, Lisa, Wendy, Susie, Karla and Wildfire (Jeanne), good morning pretty princesses.:flower3:

Robert, lets make the effort to stretch regularly. Regularity is important don't cha know.

Have a great day y'all.

Panda doing LSD:hippie:

I am one of KLH_OR's walking partners and did my 8 miles this last Saturday too. That was one of the worst walks mentally for me. I don't know why but it was a real struggle. I hit the 2.5 mile mark and wanted to turn for home, but somehow talked myself into going to the 4 mile walk and seeing how I felt at that point (whether to cut the walk short or not). Luckily at 4 miles I got my second wind and was able to finish the 8.

Since that walk I have been incredibly sore. My knees are killing me, my ankles and hips hurt, even the bottom of one of my feet hurt. Granted, 8 miles is the longest I've walked but we have been building up to it (last week was 7). I stretched when I got home, stretched and rested all day yesterday, but I think I actually hurt worse today. Anyone experience this? I had to walk on the gravel roads around me and it's pretty hilly--maybe the shifting rocks did me in? I'm worried I won't be able to handle next weekend's 9, not to mention the eventual 13 in Jan :scared:

Regularity is important don't cha know.

Once again WWDave I have to agree. Thats why I try to take in sufficient amounts of fiber each day.

Hey what about me....now my feelings are hurt:sad1:

I know what you mean Kim. I think he's still mad at me because I finished a few minutes in front of him at the ToT. (Don't remind him that I only did half the distance you guys did though. ;))

Nancy, Connie, Lisa, Wendy, Susie, Karla and Wildfire (Jeanne), good morning pretty princesses.:flower3:

Awwwwww, thanks Dave! Enjoy your (gulp!) 18 miles today! I cannot even IMAGINE doing that...

Nancy, I haven't tried reading on the treadmill yet. Works pretty well? I imagine I'll have to do a few of my long walks between now and January on the TM. I listen to my mp3 now and that's good for a 3-miler, but with the attention span of a 2-year-old, I'm not sure it would hold me for 8-9-10 miles. Any pointers?

Sassparillo, you earned those sore muscles, my Sole Sister!! Just think, a few months ago we didn't even know we HAD those muscles!! :rotfl2:

Jeanneg, yes! I'm a girl!! :cutie:

Rest day today. Tomorrow is 3 miles on the treadmill working at picking up the pace. Gotta love those intervals!!

WOW - I leave for DW just 8 weeks from Wednesday. Yahooooooo!!!

Karla

Welcome Sassparillo and welcome back, Kim! (I missed you! )

You're doing great, Sassparillo....just keep at it and you'll see that it will get easier with time and practice. I hurt quite a bit afterwards also so I think that's to be expected whenever you go further and further. Now that I'm up in the mid-teens, I feel like an 8-miler is just a little stroll, but it wasn't always like. You have to build up gradually. Just make sure you have comfortable and well fitting shoes. Proper rest and crosstraining are important also.

A word here about crosstraining: I cannot tell you guys how valuable my water aerobics class has been to me. I take an advanced class 3 times a week. I really believe that trying to make big moves against the resistance of water has been excellent training for getting over hilly terrain. I never think of it as going through the mud, but rather through the water. Somehow it makes it seem better. The water is also so very therapeutic for all my joints and muscles, so it's a very different kind of workout. I know not everyone has access to a pool, but if you do, I can't stress enough how beneficial it could be.

Susie: yes, the guy in the middle is my baby! (Jason,22) He's going to be running his first marathon with all of us at WDW. (still trying to get him to wear a WISH shirt) My daughter, Jen(23) will be doing the Goofy (it was she doing the Mickey last year that got me hooked on all this) Then I have 2 other children (Nikki,25 and Adam,27) that will not be coming along this time.

Denise: rest is very important. The muscles really do need time to heal between workouts. WTG on your training.

Nancy: you crack me up with your treadmill reading! Geez, every time you go on now, you finish a whole book! I'm surprised they don't kick you off. We have sign up sheets at our Y which only allow you to be on 30 minutes at a time. We probably have about 12 treadmills so it is only a problem in the evenings, but that's when you go, right?

I LOVE to hear stories about old people accomplishing major athletic feats. It makes me feel like I haven't peaked yet! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

60 Days from today is the 1/2 and start of the Goofy:scared1:

Yesterday was walking to Sonoma Plaza(2.5 miles) non stop and than rest with ice for a couple of hours. Then did some light walking around plaza and shops before stop at Murphy's Irish Pub. Had a beverage or two(while icing) when a Irish trio started playing. We listened for 2 hours. They were called of all things "Shades of Green". Funny! Walked back non stop 2.5 miles. Iced and off to bed. 6.1 miles total.

Leaving Sonoma and Napa in a couple of hours.

Hey what about me....now my feelings are hurt:sad1:

Welcome: Sassparillo!!!!!!!

Actually I was thinking about you while I was writing that and I guess because you and Mike were on my mind I thought I had put your name down.

I was thinking about where the best place for us to meet for lunch would be, on monday before you guys fly out. Do you have park passes? Because there is no where on the boardwalk that has lunch, just breakfast and dinner and the WISH team is meeting at the Bakery for breakfast on monday.

I'd like to extend my welcome to Karla's friend Sassparillo to. Be warned lady I'm one of the few sane people on here.

Erica and I just finished our 18 miler. It went very well and we could have kept going, but both of us were glad to stop.

Dave: ESPN and the Brewery do lunch. There is also restaurants in Y&B, and Swan Dolphin that do lunch.

Thanks Robert. I forgot the ESPN had lunch and didn't realize the Brewery did.

I'm enjoying some ice on my achillies. That 18 miler today was great, I'm hardly sore at all tonight. My heel is always sore after any LSD or speed workout, but nothing like as sore as it used to be when I tried to run on it.

Icing Panda:hippie:

Thanks Dave as long as you didn't forget us:grouphug:

We will have a park ticket for Monday but it won't be a hopper, we haven't decided for sure if we will do MK or Epcot. See what works for the majority and hopefully we can make it. We fly out first thing Tuesday morning and fly in Thursday morning so lots of chances for WISH get togethers....YYIIPPEEEE.

Congrats on your 18M, glad to hear you aren't as sore today.....keep up the ice.

Thanks Jean for missing me....funny when you don't post for a few days you really miss hearing how everyone has done.

Gotta get ready for work, have a super day all.

Kim
