Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Robert: take care of them legs!!!

Jeanne: great pic!

After a rest day yesterday I did a really great 6 miler with my chocolate lab, Ayla! I am so glad that I finally have my mojo back!!!

Erica:)

Hey Guys.

I put some extra effort into my training this morning. I'm going to have to do just like I did when it was so hot. I'm just going to have to suck it up and get it done even if it is cold in the mornings.

That Goofy is going to be brutal if I don't prepare. I know Robert has done it coming off injuries but I don't have a base of 80 marathons and ultras under my belt. I'm blazing a new trail for me.

I made sure I got all the pieces in place this morning:

Warm-up
3 mile brisk pace walk
Cool-down
Stretching
core and upper body work

I have 2 months to get all done and that's not very long. Fortunately I'm not starting from scratch. I'm in half marathon shape right now and hopefully a few more long walks will get Erica and I ready for Jan.

Jeanne the pic is cool. I haven't had a beer since we left the WDW, I think my blood alchol level is finally in legal limits.

Have an awesome evening guys.

Good Morning:

Last Sunday here in town was our 1/2 and full marathon. Hope, my son's GF did the 1/2 to see how her times were in prep for WDW in January. I waited at mile 9 for her to lend support, food and drugs if needed. While waiting I saw a lot of runners - 3 men dressed as Elvis. It was fun to watch but what I did see was an older gentleman power walking. This guy was a lot older than me and was doing a great job. I said hello and told him so. After meeting Hope I told her I;d go meet her at the finish line. I went home driving in the city was difficult because the full marathon went through all parts of the city including a street near me. So I decided to drop my car off at home and walk back to town to meet her and take pictures of her crossing the finish line. As I was crossing the bridge, here comes MR Walker and he's doing the FULL. He had completed the 1/2 at that time and was way ahead of Hope. I was so inspired to see him and what great shape he was in. I guess once you start walking and get your stride, you can do a full and stay ahead of a lot of the runners. He certainly was doing it.

Robert - I know you pain. How about going for a massage to help ease the pain. Did you watch that Nova special about training for the Boston Marathon? One of the girls had shin fractures and had to drop out of the training, please be careful!!

Dave - I'm sure your training is right on track, and I think once we get there and start, we will just DO IT!

I'm scheduled for 5 miles this weekend, did 3 on TM last night should have done 4 but I lost my paper and couldn't remember. Should have done 4 just to be sure.

Oh well, happy weekend everyone. Is it 4:30 yet?????????

This is a side note for all of us heading to the marathon in Jan.

I just received the email below. It sounds like everyone will be forced to tip 18% on all meals regardless of DDP, DDE, or cash. Is that what everyone else reads? I guess thet are doing this because they pulled tips out of DDP???

They won't care as they get their 18% no matter what. I always beleived tipping was tipping and not a service charge or VAT(Vatue added tax)!

Denise, thank you for the Marathon story. Age really is only a limitation we put on ourselves. When I race our local race walk races everyone in the top 10 is 50+. One of our walkers is 70 and has arthritis. He regularly walks 11 min miles. If he isn't on his game I'll beat him but when he is he will get me. Our fastest walker is 62 and does 8 min miles. I've beaten everyone else in the area but him. When he comes up from Tenn I know the race will be tough.

I actually feel wonderful today, amazing how good you feel when you do everything right.

I did 4.5 miles, on the WKU hills, after a warm-up, then a cool down walk. I went to the pool and did my pool sprints in 5' deep water. The resistance of the water makes sprinting slow but it's like doing weights for the muscles you use to run.

Then I did my strength training, in the pool also. Imagine doing flys (chest and back exercise) standing and using the water resistance on your cupped hands instead of weights. Then curls and side twists the same way. Tightening your tummy each time works the abs to.

Then I stretched really good in the hot tub.

There was a guy in the hot tub when I got in and I don't usually talk to anyone in the Gym but he was chatty so I had to listen to him. He said, "I had a real hard workout today, I did the sauna, the steamroom and the hot tub". So being a smart **** I said, "You should do each one three times to get the best effect". He thanked me and went back into the steam room. I enjoyed the quiet.

Have a wonderful day y'all, walk strong.

Robert, that's how that reads to me! I would suggest that a protest be lodged by all people who currently hold the cards. It's not like you get fabulous service everywhere you go in Disney. I have had some pretty mediocre service that didn't warrant anything over 10%.

Connie and Robert, I concur. I have to say I have always gotten better service at a Disney restrauant than most others. However I always looked at tipping as earned by the server. I wonder if the servers know they will get 18% no matter what, will they continue to give the best service?

Anyone ever been Cow Tipping?

Hungry Panda:hippie:

Anyone ever been Cow Tipping?

No cow tipping for me, unless the milk service is really good.

By the way, how do you know when you make a cow laugh?

Mik comes out its nose.

Any way, in my parts, we are more into slapping the bull than cow tipping. Although Tow Mayter and Lightening McQueen doing tractor tipping was pretty amusing.

Boo-booDave--You seem to be on a dairy kick today. Can't wait to see what you bring up about eggs?

No cow tipping here. I have been cow penning for a number of years now though. I am also an awesome cow chaser when the stinkers get out!! LOL :lmao: yes you can LOL. My DH does every time he sees me getting my miles in chasing them across a 2 acre field trying to head them off at the pass. :sad2:

Never been cow tipping. I have run chickens off the nest to gather their eggs. Would that be chicken tipping or egg tipping?? When I was a kid, we had a rooster that would fly at me, spurs first. I always carried a big stick and played stick ball with him. He got to be the ball. Cows are big and have four legs. Hard to tip, even 10%! :lmao: I have given bottles to baby cows. When they got big enough, they would come after me because they thought I was the mom, and tip me over. Is that cow tipping??

Bill there are laws against slapping your bull in this part of the country.

Shocked Panda:hippie:

Thats because in my part of the country, we actually go into a pen and slap a real bull. In your redneck part of the country, they need such laws because, other than doing stuff to your own bull, among other things:

There are state laws that say when a couple gets divorced, they are still legally brother and sister;

There are laws prohibitting people from bringing back more from the dump than they took;

Barbers are required to give estimates before giving haircuts; and

There are environmental laws requiring your car to have more oil in it than your baseball cap.

He's 6'2''.....same size as Erik, right?

Yes he would be the same size as both Erik and Brian. It is just that Erik looks taller because he is a bean pole.

Robert--- I know when I have used the DDE for alcholic beverages at dinner while I have had the DDP that the 18% has been automatically added. It now looks like everything will be charged the 18%. Most times I don't mind that as I have only occassionally had a bad server. I wonder if you make a fuss that they would take it off if you discussed with a manager the bad service. Sorry you are hainv problems with your shins. Pixie dust to you.pixiedust:

Denise-- Nice story about that older man at the marathon.

Dave--- I'm sure that you will be well trained for the Goofy. Didn't you do it before.

Wasn't there just some crazy story about cow tipping not to long ago. Either I read it or it was on a sitcom. Next time when there is a cow on the rail trail just standing around will see if I can cow tip.

Only did 1 mile last night as I had to get to pump class and after that class there was no way that I could do any more miles. It was brutal.

Not sure what day I am doing my LW as Sat is to be ugly weather and have other things to do on Sunday. So might take a good book and just do the TM on Sat.

Good luck to everyone doing a LW this weekend.

Nancy

Off work today so decided to get my long walk done a day early. Last weekend I fizzled at 4 miles because I think I had a touch of the stomach flu and was dehydrated. Today, though, I did the full 8 miles! Yahooo! I've never walked 8 miles before in my entire life! Wasn't worrying much about the speed...focused on covering the entire distance. Started raining at 4 miles out (so fun when you wear glasses) plus my mp3 player battery died so I was on my own for entertainment and motivation. Did the 8 miles in 2:28 for an 18:30 average mile. This is VERY good for me for my outside walk and I was happy happy happy! Slowly but surely whittling that time down!

Thank you for sharing your special accomplishment with us. You are in the most wonderful part of starting an life style change. You will see improvement almost every day, enjoy every minute of it. Yes we need to share that excitement with you, helps us to remember why we keep doing it.

Nancy this will be the first Goofy for Erica and I. I'm a fast short distance guy and Erica has good endurance so at the longer distance we are about equal.

My first wife was a farmers daughter, remind me to tell you about some of my adventures trying to bond with her family.

Jeanne how are you feeling?

Lisa, you could go moose tipping up there where you are.

Good night all.

Sleepy Panda:hippie:

I suppose we could moose tip....I have wrestled a pig to the ground on the main street of my town (yes town not city, we only rate about 2000 people) when the pig bolted over the back of a pickup and started running up the street wild. It was quite a scene. One Kodak moment I am happy they missed!!!:lmao: and yes, you can lol now everyone. Just the visual alone is worth it!:rotfl2:

Lisa I bet that was funny to watch. When you and Connie, (Steffwalks) meet you guys will lots of war stories to share.

I ended up with 31 miles for the week. Dear Pretty Princess Erica got in more miles and is rubbing it in. But I accomplished everything I wanted to this week: Every workout had all the right stuff, warm-up, cool down, core training and stretching.

Tomorrow is rest day to prepare for Monday's 18 miler.

Have an awesome Saturday y'all.

klh-or: congrats on your first long walk! Before you know it you will be in the double digits! You go girl! (oops, are you a girl? just realized I'm not sure!)

Well my long walk went well....16 miles in 3:50 and change. I ended up being sub-14:30 which is faster than I intended to go and afterwards I was hurting. At some point this morning (around mile 12 or so) I told myself that once January is over, I DON'T want to do this anymore. It hurts! I think I will continue to do half-marathons and shorter events, but training for the full is so taxing on my body and my time, I just don't think I can make it a regular event. It will be interesting to see how I do at WDW. Maybe I'm just a little tired this week. I did a half only 6 days ago and pretty much went all out, so my body might be protesting. One of the things I need to learn is to slow down a little bit. I'm just so petrified of those darn sweepers. OK, I'm whining.....sorry......just kick my sorry butt!

Hi everyone!

Hope you are all having a great weekend. I did my 8-miler this morning. I was really dreading it at first but kept things nice and slow and actually had a good training walk/run.

Jeanne - great picture! Is the guy in the middle your son? He is a cutie! Another question - how is it that you guys look great after a half-marathon? I always look like death warmed over. I always feel like that, too!

Dave - you and Erica, Lisa, Robert and others training for the goofy always amaze me. I can barely train for a marathon let alone a goofy. My hat is off to you!

klh-or - WTG! :woohoo: You did it! 8 miles! That is no small feat. I remember doing my first 8 miles last year. I couldn't believe that I could actually do it. Keep up the good work!

nepatsfan Bill - speaking of inspiring people...you are one of them. I whine and moan because I'm sore, tired, lazy, etc. You get out there and do it despite the problems you have. And, you do it quite well, I might add. Keep up the good work! Oh, and thanks for keeping us laughing. You must live in my part of the country because you are describing our laws to a T. The dump law is designed for my FIL. :rolleyes1

Robert - sending you lots of :wizard: for you shin problems. Please be careful. Regarding the new tipping policy. Yikes! I'm wondering if they expected people to tip pre-discounted rates and saw that it just wasn't happening so they decided to include the tip with the bill? :confused3 I can't see this going over well. What's the incentive for good service now?

Nancy - running and then a pump class? Whew! I don't think I could handle that very well. :upsidedow You go, girl!

Kim - I was wondering if you and your DH decided to buy into DVC. I just don't do Disney enough to justify the price. However, it seems like I'm going more and more so maybe I ought to look into the re-sales. It wouldn't hurt!

Denise - good story about the older walker. Last Jan., after completing the WDW half, my DH, Steve, told me that an 80-yr-old lady beat my time. He didn't want to tell me at first thinking I might be upset by this but I thought it was great! More power to her! This just proves that this is a sport for everyone in somewhat decent health. :thumbsup2

Connie - welcome back. Sounds like you had a nice long trip. My ToT trip was just a long weekend. I did get to sample some good food and a little vino at Epcot on the Sunday after the race. Nice!

OK, back to the cow/moose tipping, pig wrestling and references to Dave's balls. You guys keep me entertained! :lmao:

Have a good weekend and good luck with the training!
