Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

I had a good walk yesterday. I did intervals (2/2) for 44 minutes and went just shy of 3 miles (around 2.9). I was very happy that I kept my fast intervals pretty quick for the whole time (usually, the last one or 2 are pretty slow), but I was very consistant this time, and it was good :)

Jen- I think your plan is a good one, maybe you can mix up walks and hikes to keep it interesting. You can also add speed work (like my intervals above) just to change things up. But if you can work up to a 5 miler, I think you would be in good shape! But I think consistancy is the key--3-4 walks a week will have her feet and legs in shape in no time :)

I got a Southwest ding fare for Orlando and I was SO tempted to just buy it for ToT, but I couldn't get the hubs on board. It's ok, it'll make my trip in January that much mroe special :)

Yes, I love having a bunch of gym equipment in the basement but I do prefer to get out and walk. The way I changed it around is now I am also facing outside to the front of my house as well as the TV so it might kinda feel like I am outside.

I have a 4K planned for tonight, but since we are going through the dreaded H's hazy, hot and humid I might just do the TM tonight so I will be able to check out my new layout.

My ultimate goal is the Goofy, I was almost going to attempt it this year but thought better of it and so glad I did. I now respect the distance. So this year I am doing the Donald and depending on how training goes the Mickey for sure but maybe, just maybe the Goofy in 09 but I am hoping for at least 2010. I want to be able to do the Goofy before I turn 45 and that will be in 2011.....uugghhhh I said it out loud:headache:

You are just a youngster Kim. :cloud9: I'll be turning 60 in 2011. But hey it's a new age group to compete in. I'll compete for 20 to 25 more years then probably just train for fun.pirate:

I waited for the hub to come home and he was late so I only did 20 min on the ellip while watching "You've got mail". Not a great workout but you know at least I did SOMETHING. Hope this heat breaks, us Northerner's can;t stand it hot for too long, that's why we live where we do. I prefer to power walk when it's between 30-50 not 80-90!

Ah well.

Dave: I am a quilter when I'm not working full time I like to park my butt at the sewing machine. I get cranky when I haven't sewed for a while it's been a LONG time with all this training that I have not sewed. I had intended to do some tonight but felt guilty not walking. So. I did at least the 20 min.

I am posting a link to my latest quilt, it's won some awards in national shows so I'm quite proud. The hardest part is I now have another quilt in my head that is bugging me. I really want that one to be special and until this Donald thing is over I won't have enough time to devote as much as I;d like to my true passion so I walk, and wait for the day when my butt gets parked back at the sewing machine and I can create.

Here is the link to the picture. That quilt is 80 inches wide by 108 long. Notice the Mickey Pop in the lower left portion.

Good looking quilt all right. Erica gets urges to create things sometimes also, she often amazes me with what she can do. I'm fortunate that she choose to journey through life with me. She isn't a mender either though.

Hello, fellow WISHwalkers!! :wave2:
Walking club discount: As usual, my enthusiasm got ahead of my clear thinking :sad2:. I have asked the moderators if it is OK to solicit subscriptions for this purpose. So long as no one is making money it should be ok. Will get back with everyone ASAP.
Maggie, Lily/Tiger Lily 03 gave you a very good response on the weekly thread. She is way more experienced and WISE in these matters. ;) As I said, I didn't know what program you were using, so if it's working for you, keep on keepin' on! :thumbsup2 I use the Marathoning for Mortals by the Binghams, and he has a three week taper before the event. You'll hear about the "Taper Madness" going on in the training thread come December! :rotfl2:
Denise, What a FABULOUS quilt!! I've dabbled in quilting, but nothing as beautiful as yours! I think that's why half marathoning appeals to me. I get the same medal as someone who does a 6 minute mile! ;) Oh, and I live in the south, but discovered that I REALLY like walking in 50 degree weather, too!!
Kim,
My ultimate goal is the Goofy, I was almost going to attempt it this year but thought better of it and so glad I did. I now respect the distance.
See? Learning all the time!! Proud of ya! Your training is going so well, Kim. Look back at when you first started this journey! :upsidedow
Nancy and Jean, You both are doing great. Looking forward to meeting you! Back of the pack parrrrtttyyy, here we come! :woohoo:

I went to the podiatrist (sports medicine) today. I had some ankle pain in the last mile of my 8 mile LW last Saturday. After icing, Aleve and rest, I bit the bullet and made the appointment. It seems I have a heel spur in my right foot that has decided to flare up. This, after 19 months of walking and CDC in two weeks!!:furious: So, I got a cortisone shot, have my heel supports, am wearing my walking boot, taking Aleve, will ice tonight, and am now trying to figure out a way to complete CDC. Use canes? Crutches? Wheelchair? :confused3 I know that I could NOT roll a wheelchair for 13.1 miles!! :sad2: Will see how everything is in a week of dutifully staying off of it. I can handle DLF, DNS would mean twice in one year...and THAT AIN'T RIGHT (Dave ;) ) :goodvibes Anne

Anne, I am so sorry to hear about your foot. I could push the wheelchair! I am use to pushing the jogging stroller. We do not want DNS. Really, take care of yourself and do what is best for the longterm. Thanks for the response about tapering and thanks for looking in to the subscriptions. I will PM you today. I have mapped out a plan for the next week and half. I am sure it will be fine. Looking forward to the cdc.

Jen in GA, no real advice. My dd16 and I will do the 13k TOT, and the farthest she has walked is 4.5 miles with me. But, I know that she could walk out the door and do the 13k. We are going to try to walk 2x week together. She also plays h.s golf so she walks the course carrying her clubs, which apparently is pretty decent exercise. Just remember to enjoy your dd.

Denise, beautiful quilt. I am a novice knitter, but haven't had time with training either.

Off for 3 miles this am after coffee.
Maggie

Anne, Darlin, you are special to Erica and I, you are the first WISH Warrior we ever met. Your awesome personality makes you a heck of a recruiter for the team. After meeting you we desided to join. I sure hope you are at ToT it will not be the same without you.

I had heel spurs in both heels when I retired from the Air Force, that is one reason I stopped exercising and let myself get out of shape. Blasting with ultra sound, ice and stretching all help. Mine finally went away. It's my achillies getting torn that made me take up walking and give up running.

Question for you, who would we approach at Disney World about getting a WISH day, at the race week, where our WISH shirts would act as a fast pass on all the rides and shows. That way we could have a group party all over the park and not have to wait in lines. We are loyal Disney fans and deserve it.

Youngster haven't been called that in a long time....thanks you just make my day:hug: Age is just a number, you are as young as you feel!!!!

Denise I love the quilt

Anne  Thank you for the kind words. So sorry to hear about your heal spurs PD for a quick recovery

Maggie Enjoy your 3M

Well got 4K in on the dreaded TM last night, took 37:17 but no shin splints, felt great.

Another 4K on tap for tonight and since our temp with the humidex will be over 40....which in F I think it is over 100 I will probably be on the TM again tonight.

Be safe out there today everyone

Kim

Dave, Awww, what kind words. You and Erica are WONDERFUL additions to our WISH family!!

:rotfl: I am a peon!! I may have a big mouth, but would have no idea who to contact with such a question...group sales? marketing? I do have a DD in marketing. I'll ask her if she has any ideas. (NOT marketing at WDW, don't get excited!!) Oooooo..blasting with ultrasound...now THAT sounds like an answer!! ;) Meanwhile, I am doing all kinds of exercises that work the leg muscles without putting my heel down! Unfortunately, no pool anywhere near me or I'd be swogging. Going to be good about wearing that dratted boot!

Thanks for the well WISHes everyone. This, too, shall pass!!

Good morning, everyone.

Denise: Beautiful quilt.....I just love it! I have a good friend who quilts also, so I can really appreciate all the time and effort that goes into your endeavors. I'm a big klutz when it comes to anything artsy, but I'll sit and work on a mental challenge for hours.

Anne: so sorry about the ankle pain......sending pixie dust so you'll be fine in time for your event.

Dave: great idea about the WISH shirts fast pass.....do you think something like that could really happen? As I always tell my kids " If you don't ask, you don't get" so there's nothing lost in inquiring about it.

I have been a very bad girl with my training this week - both walking and XT. Having houseguests the past 3 weeks has me all out of sorts. I spent most of the last 2 days catching up on other stuff. I have book club tonight and am only on page 42 (out of about 300) so i don't see me getting any training today either. Gotta get out and test the new Garmin, but life is getting in the way right now. Arrrrgggghhhhh!

Hi all....I am crossing over here from the running/walking site to see what's going on!

Jeanneg: I know all about the 'life getting in the way' of decent training time! A husband, two kids, and working all interfere! No way around it I guess...... I am afraid though, even with time, I wouldn't get it done anyway!:scared1:

Brenda: Your quilt is beautiful. I am a novice hand quilter, and mostly have done small wall hangings. My sister is the one! She does both hand and machine quilting and her work is beautiful! She just did a queen sized T-shirt quilt for the Relay for Life as a fund raiser. It was the best one yet!

Anne: I am sending you :grouphug: I hope the heel spur improves quickly and you get back on the road again soon!

Beth

Denise--- What a beautiful quilt. I don't even sew on buttons.

Anne-- Thanks again for looking into the magazine discount. I have had PF in the past so I know how uncomfortable it can be. I hope the coritsone shots work for you.

Maggie-- Hope you had a great 3 mile walk and the weather was to hot and humid.

Dave---That would be great if we could have special fast pass with our shirts. I have been to WDW 3 times since the Year of a Million Dreams and haven't even seen the Dream Team let alone get anything.

Kim---Good job on your 4K. I know what you mean by trying to decide if you are ready for the Mickey. I was only planning on doing the Donald but after all the training and my first half in April, I was torn about which I should do. I knew I could do the Donald and with a little push from someone who convinced me we could do it, I ended up signing up for the Mickey. How this is all going to work out for me is yet to be seen. I am now comfortable with doing 12-13 miles but it is scarey to start to train for much longer distances. Good luck with whatever you decide.

JeninGA---How nice that you and your daughter are going to do it together. No advice from me about training.

bekkia--- I love those SW dings and I am always sad when I can't get it to work out for a trip to WDW. I am waiting for a good one for my Dec trip, plus I have $120 credit to use. Good job on your 3 mile walk.

Jeanne-- All the cleaning to get ready for houseguests counts as XT. So don't say you didn't do any training.

I did 4 miles on TM and 60 minute pump class. My butt is hurting today from the class so had to take Aleve to start the day. I think all my walks this week will be on the TM it is to be in the high 90's with alot of humidity. I will be sure to take my book to read while walking which makes the time go faster.

Nancy

Good morning walking athletes.

I'll send Tiger Lily a mail about the fast pass idea, she is the one who has clout.

Beth welcome, glad you desided to join our little group.

I went for a nice 4 mile walk on the hills this morning. I stayed in my comfort zone till the last mile when I pushed the pace a little. Tomorrow I'm going to put in a hard effort so today was preparing for that..

So who all are in for a brisk but comfortable group walk at the ToT. I think a mobile party would be so cool. The slower walkers would be the pace setters.

Have an awesome day guys.

Dave:hippie:

Denise- That quilt is AMAZING. I am so, so impressed!

Kim- I hope today's 4K goes well again, I made myself get up super early to walk today before it gets hot--I just can't handle it!

Nancy- You go girl! Work that treadmill (I have a hard time working on the treadmill, so I figure extra encouragement has to help others too :cheer2: )

Dave- I love those nice comfortable walks. I'd be so down for a moving party--so jealous of you guys!

I got a 5 mile walk in early, before it got too hot. I met my goal for August! I wanted to be able to do 5 miles at a "legal" marathon pace, and I finished in 1:16 (15:17 mpm). I'm so happy, because I haven't been doing that great at my training for the last month or so, but I felt pretty good, and I probably could have gone at least another 1/2 mile+. My next goal is 7 miles at pace for September, so I've got to get working on that :)

I'm going out of town (again!) tomorrow, so not much walking for me the next few days, but I'll be back in full swing on Tuesday!

Good morning walkers.

I have to start out even earlier this am, since my dh needs to leave for the golf course by 6:30. I plan another 3M this am. Tomorrow will be 1hr yoga. I hope all is well. It sounds like everyone is out walking. :thumbsup2

Anne, I hope your foot contiues to feel better.

Dave, add me to the walking as a group for TOT. Sounds great.

Who was it that said the only reason there dd wanted to come was for the shirt? I wanted to tell you that my dd16 is coming for 2 reasons - glow in the dark event shirt and that I agreed to go on TOT for the first time. I am a huge chicken, and try to stay off all rides unless they are in fantasyland. I can handle those.

Time to finish coffee and a banana and get out the door.
Maggie

Maggie-- Good for you that you are getting up early to get your walk in. During the week I do all my workouts after work and I struggle to get out of bed early on Sat to get to the rail trail for my LW.

bekkiz--- Good job on getting your 5 Miler done in the time you wanted.

Dave-- I will be looking forward to the party group at the back of the pack for the ToT.

I did 3 miles on the TM last night and stretch class. My latest pain is in my left knee after doing close to 2 miles. That has happened the past 3 times on the TM. It is that a shooting pain goes into my knee and it nearly buckles, I slow down and it does get better. I am trying to figure out what is making it happen. I thought maybe it was related to the incline, but I'm not sure that is it. I think the next time on TM will not go any steep inclines and see if it makes a difference. Once I am off the TM, the pain is gone. No swelling either. I call it my revolving pain as I keep getting it in different areas.

Tonight will do pump class and then maybe a couple of miles on elipical.

Thanks to Anne for her assistance with getting me the ToT image.

Hope everyone is staying cool.

Nancy
