walk-in/on-line dining availability?

Hello, we are taking a short last minute trip just before Christmas. The only dining we have our hearts set on is Chef Mickey's for dinner, but it is fulll according to the on-line reservations. Two questions:

1. Is the online dining reservation system "real time" or if I call the dining number at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow, say, would they have all the previous day's cancellations suddenly open? (At least, I think it used to be 7 a.m., right?) If not real time, do the cancellations show up online at 7 a.m. also?

2. Would I have any luck with a walk-in? Let's say I went early, maybe 4:30 or 5:00 p.m.? Do they save any room for walk-ins?

It's my understanding that the cancellations show up immediately. I would check online several times a day if I were you. That is how I have picked up a couple. I tried online for weeks (over a month) about 5 times a day to get a Liberty Tree Tavern dinner reservation and one eventually popped up. I also tried to get a San Angel and while I was on the phone with the CM and she was telling me there were none, I was playing on line and one popped up. She was surprised because she said she should have had the same thing that was showing up online. She told me to grab it and said maybe there had been a cancellation between the time she was pulling it up and finding nothing and I pulled it up.

I am also curious about walk ups. I have looked EVERYDAY since I found out that my sis will be with us for a few days, trying to add her to at least 1 or 2 or our ADRs and there is NOTHING online and when I call. No way to add her. I am wondering how , or if ,they can accommodate her if we walk up early before our ADR time (I'm takling several hours before) and ask about adding her. Is anyone there now that has done a walk up, and if so, how is it? Is it possible? If my DH and I just ended up having to drop a couple of ADRs that we have to that she can eat with us, how likely will it be for just DH and I to walk up to a place we would like to eat?
