Vloggers and camera people...

I had a thread on the Photography Board with pics just from smartphones. It's an older thread, but even with the older phones, pictures could be very good.

I had an iPhone 6Plus that got wrecked on XMas Eve when it wound up in a puddle of soda. (Don't ask!) So I had to get a new phone. I was all set to go with the 7 until I realized I liked the camera is better on the 8Plus. (Note, not the 8. And DD bought the X.) The Portrait mode was what sold me - even as a hobby photographer, it blew me away!

If anyone is looking for either a new camera or a new phone, or both, you might want to check out some of the newer smartphones.

Where does it say "point and shoot" anywhere in the OP's first post? All they said was a camera for under $600. Canon has a bunch of DSLR options under the $600 ceiling that would be far superior to a camera on a phone... any phone.
She’s talking about vlogging and a camera with good auto focus, it’s safe to assume she’s not looking for a DSLR.

If you’re talking sheer technical image quality and control, yeah, a DSLR is going to be the hands down winner but it won’t do the OP or anyone else any good if they don’t know how to use it. I have a cabinet full of some the best cameras and lenses you can buy and know how to use it. Send me out with someone like Robert Valenzuela using an iPhone and he’s going to outshoot me every time. There is so much more to a good photograph than the gear you’re using. In any case, the OP is looking to vlog, a DSLR would be overkill. The best thing she can do is learn good techniques for *whatever* camera she’s using.

I tried out portrait mode on my stepmother’s 7Plus and it about drove me crazy. I kept moving in to blur out the background and it kept telling me I was too close and wouldn’t take the picture. I would have to totally re-train myself to ever use it. :rotfl:

I believe the newest version is on the 8Plus and above, only. I found it pretty easy to use, and as I sad, I was really blown away with the results! :goodvibes

The OP said she wants to shoot in Auto Focus, only wants it for her trip, and has no experience whatsoever in camera equipment. That tells me she's probably not interested in interchangeable lenses and all that goes with learning dSLR photograply. YMMV

I am looking for suggestions for a decently priced camera that I can use for vlogging on our trip and still shots with good auto focus. I don't want anything over $600. I'm looking mainly to use it just for our trip. I have no experience in camera equipment what so ever so I was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction. Thanks

I have no experience in camera equipment........

I think that will be the major challenge when getting started. It takes time to develop skill as a photographer regardless of the equipment you use. Taking a brand new camera on vacation for the first time and expecting to get pro quality results is asking a lot. How to make the best use of composition/lighting, etc. is something you only learn over time through experience. Often, the best locations for pictures aren't the same places you would be walking at the parks. You will also need to decide how much of your vacation time will be spent on getting great pictures vs. enjoying your vacation. If traveling with your family that could be quite a challenge.
