Virginia Beach or Hilton Head?

DH and I are trying to decide where to go for a quick little 4 day vacation this summer. Our choices are VA Beach or Hilton Head.

Pros and cons: VA Beach, only 2 hours away so we aren't spending most of our four days driving. But a much more crowded beach, from what I remember. They have a cool aquarium I would like to take the kids to.

Pros and cons: Hilton Head: 8 hours each way driving, but a less crowded beach. More money for gas to and from, of course.

Anyone ever been to both? Is Hilton Head worth the trip, or just stay with VA Beach? Oh, hotel cost wise is the same, DH gets a discount to stay at any Sheraton. Thanks!

I have been to both.

If you enjoy the beach - I love Va. Bch's beach over Hilton Head's. Much more.

For kids, I think there's more to do in Va. Beach. Hilton Head on the other hand has awesome golf.

Oh, and you could go to Bush Gardens in Va. too - only about a 45 min. drive from the beach.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. HH offers a more relaxing atmosphere - very laid back, while Va. Bch has a more fast-paced fun atmosphere. So it's really just a matter of which kind of vacation you're looking for.

We love Hilton Head - very relaxing. We haven't been to Virginia Beach but spent 5 days this summer between Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and Water County. I could care less about ever going back to Busch Gardens again - to me it was like a high priced carnival. I would definitely pick Hilton Head.
