I vote to wait to see the price. If bigger rooms are the goal then RIV should be the choice, but if you only want studios than go VGF2

Honestly, not enough if known about VGF2 to make an informed decision:
- What will the price per point be at VGF2? (This is the biggest point... if VGF2 is $30-$50 more per point, that's a big factor)
- Will there be any type of re-sale restrictions at VGF2?
- When will VGF2 go on sale and open. (if the date slips to 2023 but you want DVC now, that's a big factor)
- What will the rooms be like and will it affect the point chart for VGF?

Without this information, you really can't make an informed decision. At most, you can decide to hold off on your purchase and wait for more information.

Pricing and points chart need to be confirmed first. Current incentives on Riviera are decent, and the Grand points chart can eat up a lot of points really quickly - even if only studios.

RIV / VGF split stay is such a great option :-). Already bought RIV direct long before they announced VGF2 and bought enough there but tempted by adding VGF2 if the price is right but... then would I have enough time to save money for Disneyland Tower? Decisions!

I voted for waiting only because I'd prefer to own at VGF than I would Riviera. Everything could change depending on price and point chart but that's how I would lean right now.

There are not. VGF2 is joining the existing VGF association and therefore will be operating under the same rules as current VGF. They cannot change the association rule to impose resale restrictions.

Trust me, it's not that simple. Until Disney announces more concrete information, we really don't know. You can have the same association with different rules-- As in OKW 2042 vs 2057 contracts.
And just like they have "grandfathered" new re-sale rules in the past.
Nothing stops them from putting in new rules, in the same association, that applies to new contracts moving forward. It's not an association rule -- It's a contract rule.

It actually is that simple in this case.

OKW is a bad example, because legally the association as a whole is 2057 and anyone with a 2042 who hasn't filed a quit claim has legal right to 2057. It is a big legal mess Disney is hoping time and death fix for them. The contracts tie to the land lease, and the land lease is 2057.

And it is an association rule, actually. Because it is based on the association's membership in BVT.

No... it's a contractual rule. As an attorney, I pored over the contract, and then pored over it again with an attorney who specializes in timeshare law.

Nothing stops them from introducing a new contract for new Grand Floridian buyers, moving forward, restricting the rights that they can transfer. (for that matter, they could introduce such a rule for any new direct purchases at all resorts if they wanted to). Now, they might want to avoid the confusion and headaches entailed in doing so, such as the OKW headaches.
But they absolutely can do so, if they choose.

It’s far too early to make that call since we do not know what pricing is for VGF. If everything is equal I would do VGF.

So now I am stuck as to whether get SSR direct now before the increase (200 points) or wait for VGF2.

I already have 600 VGF points and 1200 SSR points. None of which are direct

It there's a question then I'd recommend waiting to see what the pricing on the reopening of sales at VGF looks like. And if there's a preference in resorts then that is VGF then definitely wait.

And that changes it a bit from VGF vs RIV. You're looking for direct points to become a qualified member? If the SSR points work well for you in your use then they'll be the least expensive way to get the blue card.

The only downside of waiting for VGF2, for those on fence, is you know Riviera is $201 with $8 in incentives for 125 points and $15 in incentives for $150. That puts Riviera at $186-$193 per point. If you wait on VGF2, and decide the price per point or the point chart are too high, are you then able to come back to RIV at a pretty good direct price?

I never had my blue card until I bought into RIV, and I know my fiancé and I are in it for the long term. That made it easy for us. Of course, if you hate RIV, that also makes it easy.

No, Im already blue card. But wanted to get some direct future proof points for new resorts.........

I have around 2,500 points in total.

Was SSR on your radar before the price increase was announced? If not then I'd stick with the VGF/RIV decision since that's where you were.

FWIW I don't particularly like the idea of buying direct to future proof. You can't predict what DVC will do so it may not accomplish what you hope. Maybe it will but maybe you'll just be wishing you bought where you'd most like to stay anyway. Points can always be rented out to get a transfer for a future resort or to pay cash for a stay.
