VGC resale vs DLT direct

Hope this isn't too much of a drift, but I learned -- somwehere here on DISboards -- that one could buy VGC direct. When I spoke with a CM they mentioned there's a 7-9 year wait list for buying VGC direct. Can anyone else confirm? I don't see a real reason for getting on that list, unless that blue card really is that important...

I asked again last week about GCV and they clearly said NO.

My guide told me they stopped taking wait list requests awhile ago. I don’t see the point. Eventually, most VGC owners will probably be resale

Yikes, that sounds as bad as Club33. Curious how the direct rate would be between the two properties -- VGC and DLT. Hopefully we'll find out soon.
I don’t think you can compare the two. One is completely sold out with no ability to get on a waitlist. The other will be an active selling resort with 4-5+ million points. I’m tired of guessing at this point. The announcement couldn’t come soon enough!

I was just at GCV for a 6 day stay and when I went to pick up my Welcome Home gift, I asked about the GCV wait list. The guide just shook her head and said nothing's available but was happy to put me on the wait list for DLT.
When I came home I saw a listing for my use year that's hard to find so I put in a full price offer and it was accepted. I wanted more points for 2-bedroom stays and looking at RIV point charts and estimating $275 a point for DLT, I was estimating I need around 200 points so I could get a 2 bedroom every other year (maybe more if we're allowed to borrow again). The total would be between $40,000 to $50,000 so adding on to my GCV contract was cheaper. However, I didn't like that resale price per point (around $300/pt) is higher than what add on direct from Disney is listed at ($295/pt). Since those add on points from Disney don't really exist, I guess it's a moot point!

VGC is the one TRUE sold out resort

Of course I don't really know anything, but I think you're way overestimating the DLT ppp at $275. If VGF2 comes in at $255, maybe you're not, but if it comes in around $207, then I would think that you definitely are.

I agree, if they start sales next year I think it'll be at whatever the direct price is then, or maybe higher but not abysmally so.

I agree. I don't imagine DLT will be through the stratosphere. DVC have a lot of points to sell in a very different market to WDW for guests who won't be staying for a week at a time. I purchased VGC well aware I would be paying more than I could buy DLT for, but I went off DLT after experiencing its location and lack of balconies. Happy to pay a resale premium for VGC on this one.

They stopped taking requests for waitlists at VGC about two years ago. Confirmed with my guide recently that is still the case. We got in on a 50 point contract direct in 2020 after sitting on the wait list for two years. I think the only reason we even got that was because our request was for a small contract. We just got lucky.

I would love to see a starting price anywhere near the current rates, but I think we'll be disappointed. Why would they keep raising VGC to over $300pp if they weren't making room for a high DLT starting price? DLT won't sell as many large contracts as WDW, people just don't visit for that many days. Instead of having fewer families buying larger contracts, they'll have more families buying smaller contracts, which means more turnover in the hotel, which means fresh wallets coming in more frequently. They've made it clear that they are aiming for the "once a year or less" guest. vs APs. They assume that group will spend more since they visit less often. My fingers and toes are crossed that I'm wrong. Would love to have a few points at DLT as we are a CA family. Time will tell.

The reason VGC is $300pp is because there is only a million points with only 48 DVC rooms, and is completely sold out with no wait lists. DLT on the other hand will have 5+ million points with 350 rooms. I hear you about DLT likely attracting small contract buyers but that means they need to attract that many more new families, which could be a challenge. I used to believe prices will be crazy high but now I believe that it will be comparable to whatever VGF2 sells for.

I'm hoping you are right! Although I am torn between adding more VGC vs DLT (like everyone else it seems). After seeing the lack of balconies, and the possible view of the nearby neighborhood, it doesn't seem so appealing as it was initially.

I think a lot of people are starting to waiver on DLT for all the obvious reasons. Not as nice as VGC. Farther distance to the parks. Lack of dining options. Lack of balconies and views. Studios only sleep 4. Very limited 1&2 BR inventory. And not everyone digs the sleeping beauty theming. Don't get me wrong. I think it'll be really nice and I'll probably buy a small contract. But I don't think the enthusiasm is as strong as Disney thinks or wishes. If they price it over $250pp, it will take them years to sell out IMO.

Why they decided to go with Sleeping Beauty pop art instead of Disneyland/Disneyland Hotel history is beyond me and a missed opportunity.
The only thing I can come up with is that they are trying to attract buyers to Disneyland in general, and the castle there is Sleeping Beauty's castle. Locals/west coasters love the DL hotel for it's history and I'm assuming would prefer that theming, but Disney is attempting to market to all buyers. Just my guess.

Dunno. These images, aside from some wall art, scream OG Mid Century Modern Disneyland Hotel to me. I mean they're nothing like those gaudy Royal Rooms at POR.

First I apologize in advance for commenting on this here but I did not see a dedicated DLT Post.

Obviously it states it is an "Artist Rendering" so it may change but I find it odd that the real bed is near the window.
All of the DVC studios we have stayed at previously placed the couch near the window.
Not that it matters much but I am curious why they may design the room that way.
My only thought would be the lack of balconies at DLT.
