VGC resale vs DLT direct

I don't really care for the member pool bands. They're thicker and uncomfortable. Its more of the annoying circumstances that they ask for a membership card. One time during checking in they tried to charge me for parking because I have a white card instead of blue. I had to explain to the cast member it does not matter when your staying on DVC parking is included regardless if its direct or resale. So I always wanted to buy at DLT when it opens so why not get the blue card with it.
I have to say, I'd be super tempted to buy DLT myself if they open at something like $250 per point, but I'm disappointed that they put the 5th sleeper in the 1 bedroom villas and not the Studios. With the recent Saratoga refurb, I think Copper Creek is the only resort left without a 5-sleeper option, but it's a pretty mixed bag which ones put the 5th in the Studio and which go in the 1BR.

That was my dilemma what if it DLT opens at $250 or lower. Like they were discussing on DVC Show at possibl $235-250 a point. That will be really tempting. I guess I can always sell my 50pt VGC if I have to buy at DLT. Do you think at $260 pt for a 100 (double points 2021) is a great deal at this time?

Depends on the DLT points chart. If dollars-per-point is roughly equal, I'd hope to see points-per-night that heavily favor DLT. I don't think I'd be willing to "downgrade" my home resort just for the sake of replacing a resale contract with a direct one.

This, I had something similar happen at Aulani, as an Aulani white card resale owner. It was annoying. That blue card benefits of free parking was supposed to be those staying on cash reservations, not DVC points, it was a perk for being DVC blue card if you owned DVC but not using DVC points.

I had to explain that as an Aulani owner that pays the MF dues that includes parking, it doesn't matter what color card I carry. It would piss me off if a non Aulani direct owner gets free parking at Aulani when only owning WDW resort, while an Aulani owner does need to pay to park that the dues suppose to cover because of while card resale. It seems the CM's at Aulani wasn't fully train on the blue card benefits, it doesn't matter if you are staying on DVC points. And I even got asked to show my card just for asking for laundry tokens and had to argue this point once with one of the CM out of like the 5 times I asked for laundry tokens. So yeah, just an annoyance, the pool wrist band doesn't bother me if they ask, I just say I prefer the regular wrist bands anyways so than they don't' need to see the card anymore. Hopefully it's better now, because geez, I shouldn't have to be arguing about parking fees or laundry tokens.

Back to OP original topic, yeah, I would get VGC now versus waiting for DLT. I really don't think the DLT price will be that much better by the time it opens for Direct Sale.

Yes it does. Someone who rents and stays on points gets free parking even if they're not a DVC member at all.

We have only stayed cash but was with a cast member so did not have to worry about parking at Aulani so I can't speak from experience, however this was my understanding as well. Points are Points in terms of parking fees at any DVC resort whether they are rented, blue or white card.

No, I agree with you there, and it should be the case, but for a while, I read about there being an issue with misunderstood enforcement of the Blue Card with CM's at Aulani, It's been discussed in the Aulani forum before in the 2019 timeframe, but alas, we getting off topic.

I also would not sell the Grand Cal as I believe the location would be better but would certainly add on at DLT. However since your oldest is only 4 the extra 20 + years on DLT way be more value for you.

I think where blue card comes into play is the ability to park for free when staying on cash.

Blue card parks for free no matter how they're staying. Points guests park for free no matter their membership status.

Were you with an Aulani CM or a different Disney CM? Disney CMs don't get free parking at Aulani.

If only the Aulani CM's understood this at the time, we white card owners wouldn't felt like being treated as 2nd class citizens. It was just unpleasant to have to deal with it (politely argue) while you are in vacation mode just trying to check in, and oh, get laundry tokens.

Although everything worked out, I thought to my myself, if I only had the blue card and brought DVC in 2015 like I wanted to before, I wouldn't have to deal with this. Just regret not getting in (on resale) sooner before all the changes, but that's a whole another topic.

She was was working at Aulani at the time of our stay. Thanks for the info

Chiming in with a tiny, tiny "favor" for the Blue Card at DLR.

On Labor Day, we initiated our brand new Dream Magic Keys (no block-out dates; free parking). We ate lunch at our favorite restaurant in Downtown Disney and discovered, as we were frantically checking web pages, that this restaurant doesn't offer a discount for Magic Key (it used to offer discounts for the former AP). Gladly, it still offered a 10% discount for DVC! Phew!

(More gladly, my hubby had his DVC card with him. I'd shifted to a slim purse and only carried "essentials." I failed to consider that the DVC card might be an essential in light our our Dream Magic Keys! Doh!)

I don't see that happening. I was the highest guess in the VGF thread (275), but I don't see DLT below 275. I think breaking 300 is possible, and I think the chart will be up there with VGC -- and likely to have the resale restriction. They aren't looking for great deal for you. They are looking to make money for Disney. It took decades to get this approved, and there's no foreseeable construction. RIV's relatively low pricing is skewing this pricing. VGF2/DLT are actually properties people want and will be priced accordingly.

Selling VGC to buy DLT makes zero sense to me. And you'd have to pay taxes on the money you made.

Why would ANYBODY pay more to buy DLT than VGC?

I agree with RoseGold, DLT will sell for over $300 when it opens for sale.

Interesting arguments. I am a blue card member. And I do own 100 points at VGC (2 - 50 point contracts) that I use at VGC only. I have also considered adding another 50-100 points at DLT when it opens. I am local and do 2 or 3 2-3 night staycations per year to Disneyland. Usually 2 on my points and often a third cash. I do love DLH so I could definitely see wanting to own there too. I am hung up on buying direct when it comes out or waiting for resale. I honestly don't think resale restrictions at DLT will be as big a deal as Riviera as there is only one other choice (VGC) and it is impossible to get into at 7 months. Most people who own in CA at VGC use those points only there. I suspect DLT will be pretty similar.

It’s THE Disneyland Hotel. As a lifelong OC (the first 27 in Anaheim) resident and former CM, I’ll lay odds DLT will go fast, and it will go furious.

I’m literally sitting in the GC lobby as I type this, and having seen the artwork for DLT, I’m not sure I wouldn’t buy there first. Especially if they add a signature restaurant (to replace Steakhouse 55). The GC is fabulous, don’t get me wrong, but it is 20 years old, and DLH has a HUGE and extremely passionate following going back decades before that.

I agree. We own at VGC and love our stays there but DLH has my heart-love the style and the pool and Trader Sam’s. It’s still closer than almost any WDW resort to a park-it’ll be hard for us not to add on there. Though I can see waiting for some resale points-we are blue card back from when it was only 25 points (all of less-than-4-years ago) and it really doesn’t bring us much value anyway.
