5 Years Without Disney

We were last at Disney in December 2009 when DH returned from deployment. We've LIVED in St. Cloud, Florida for the last year. We still haven't made it back, even though it's less than an hour away. Hopefully my DS/DDIL/DGD will visit over the holidays.

Then again, I get sticker shock EVERY time I look it up and think about a trip. In my marketing classes, I learned that if you have too much demand, you raise your prices so that you can earn more. I really think that's what Disney keeps doing.

Hang in there and keep hanging out here!

It will be just as wonderful as you remember when you do return! And there will be all kinds of new things to experience! For me, there is a lot of joy in the planning and anticipation, too :-)

I feel your pain to an extent.
I went in July 2019 and had a trip for August 2020 that could not happen because my sister's work would not let anyone go on vacation within a month of starting the new school year...
We didn't get back until August 2021.
Then I was supposed to go in August 2022 but that was cancelled due to illness in my immediate family but was able to go on a quick trip in December of 2022.
Those were the longest gaps I've ever had not being able to go.

Our last trip to WDW was in 2018 for our 25th anniversary vow renewal at the Polynesian. It was a memorable trip, and we did everything we wanted, the highlight being a fireworks cruise after our ceremony. We went to Disneyland in 2019 and I discovered that I actually prefer it to WDW. Our 2020 Polynesian Club level trip was canceled due to the pandemic.

We went to the Margaritaville Resort in Hollywood, Florida and had a blast in our ocean front room for half the price of a Disney vacation. Since then we’ve gone on multiple beach vacations for a fraction of a Disney vacation. We don’t plan on returning to WDW or Disneyland until we have grandchildren to bring there.

We were last there in 2021. We used to go every 2-3 years. A year and a half ago I had to get a new job due to my former company letting almost everyone go and having the horrible offshore overseas people take our positions. Where I am now we do not get anywhere near the PTO and what we do get there is something I need it for. They do not allow a week of unpaid leave or to make up time so have no clue when I will get to go to Disney or anywhere else on a real vacation again. Last year and this year we went away for Memorial Weekend to places within a few hours drive. I know some sort of small trip is better than nothing but I miss Disney and doing traveling like I used to.

Our last trip was in 2010. We used to get every couple of years. Now when I look at the changes, prices, air fare, Cdn $ exchange, it's all too much. Tried to work out going with Family but everyone has different schedules be it school or work. We just were never able to nail it down.

I hear ya…..we went of a WDW break from 2012 - 2021 due to my DD21’s very demanding and expensive travel softball. The break was rough, but worth it since she did go play in college. We’ve been back to WDW 3 times since 2021. You’ll get back to the park(s) one day ::yes:: and when you do, you’ll really appreciate and love it :smickey:

Our first and only trip to WDW was in 2017, as adults, no kids. We won't likely be back. As Disneyland veterans, it just wasn't our cup of tea.
Our last trip to DL was in 2018, as adults, no kids. We are overdue. When our kids were ......klds...... we went every other year. Our friends considered us Disney-aholics because of how frequently we went. I realize that is not frequent compared to many on the DIS.
Disney apparently is an acquired habit. My DIL had never lived more than 45 miles from DL and NEVER went until she went with us as an adult. She has three children now, and she and our son stumbled into a whole mess of free admission tickets, so they have been several times with their kids. We may tag along some time, or just go on our own in the off season.
Our DIL also has been to WDW 6 times, for debate tournaments, and NEVER has been to the parks. Just the hotel where the tournament was held.

I was headed down for my once in a lifetime WDW trip when covid happened and everything closed. I came back home and am really not sure if I'll every try to go back. I'm at a stage in my life where it's getting less and less appealing to do so. I haven't given up completely, but the desire is waning compared to a few years ago.

Our last trip was 2018 after 11 years of almost annual trips. Lots of reasons why we haven't returned, but we'll make it back. :)

We have really cut back on our trips. We used to go one or more times a year but now go much more rarely. I'm not sure if that is a product of our kids becoming adults or the rapidly increasing prices for tickets, accommodations, and food or a combination of the two.

We do still have water park days from 10 day non expiring tickets purchased in the 2007-2011 time frame. Somehow I still have 13 days, my wife 7, my daughter 8, and my son 9.

We try to have a water park weekend every year but even that is not happening every year. Those days are going to last a long time.

Our last trip to WDW was October, 2020. We all know what happened then. We were just leaving when we heard rumors of a bad virus going around. We have not been back since.
