Do I have it mixed up with Hilton Head? I am thinking the beach is "up the road." If we stayed at Vero, can we step outside the villa and be on the beach?

What are some things to do at Vero? We are thinking of skipping WDW in 2006, and maybe spending time at Vero instead. Please tell me about it. TIA.

Vero is a lovely resort, I haven't stayed there, but have been a "day visitor". It is located, for all practical purposes, right on the beach. There is about a 10 foot drop from the resort to beach level via a wooden walkway, as for the cottages, I don't know if they use the main walkway, or have other paths to the beach, I've only been in the main inn bldg.

I would like to stay at Vero Beach in June with my son for his 16th Birthday. ::MinnieMo

My DH , 2 DS's (24 yrs. old), their girlfriends and our 22 year old DD spent four days at VB in August and the same length of time at HH last year. Both resorts are beautiful but different. VB is on the ocean, we were in a 2 bdrm, bldg 15, you could see the ocean in the distance great courtyard between our building and the next. The majority preferred VB because we were on thge ocean, DD preferred HH. WE don't cook so we had to travel to restaurants at VB or eat at the resort. We had breakfast there the last day and regretted that we hadn't eaten there the entire time. VB and HH are great resorts I know you'll have a magical vacation at either.

Yes, it's right on the ocean. It's been a few years now, but we loved Vero Beach, during a long weekend stay in June, and look forward to getting back sometime in the future. We've even thought about picking up a contract there.

Yes, the VB resort is right on the ocean. It's the HH resort where the main resort is located on the causeway side, and the Ocean access (the HH Beach House area) is about a mile away, on the ocean side of the island.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to eat at Vero Beach and what are some of the things you did while you were there. ::MinnieMo

I have to tell you that VB was awesome (except my hubby and mine's run in with jellyfish - boy does that sting!). The food was PHENOMENAL!!! I'm not sure of the restaurant (it was 7+ years ago) but it was the moderately priced one on the main level. We had characters walking around and it wasn't a "character meal" that you pay for at WDW. It was just a nice bonus. I had the fish and chips for my dinner on the first day, then had it on day 2, and day 3...I swear the fish jumped onto my plate they were so fresh. It was very beautiful. We had a bunch of fun playing with the games they have there. My hubby and I played Bocce ball for the first time and met another couple that we hung out with the rest of the day. It was really great. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. Just sitting on the rocking chairs on the porch for an hour was like taking an extra 2 days on my vacation. Truly relaxing. Not to mention the Chip and Dale outside campfires. Jeez, all this talking about it is making me miss it...maybe I'll call MS tomorrow! LOL!

P.S. If you book it, just remember - Jellyfish and Man-o-war warnings on the beach should be heeded - no amount of boogie boarding was worth that! But on a side note - Disney Cast Members took care of us and had us back to perfect quickly!!!

Thanks everyone! I'm SOLD! Now let's hope there is some June/July availability.

Tell me about it! When I told my DH we should think about going to Vero because we weren't planning on a WDW trip in 2006, he said "Well, if we are going to go there, we may as well just go to WDW, what's the difference?"

HELLO?????? Only just like the difference between night and day. New York City and Mayberry. We have been going to Disney for so many years now, and even when we don't go to WDW, wherever we do go, we feel we need to keep the kids busy, so we are off on day trips, ect. I want a RELAXING vacation. A vacation where I can sit and read for 3 hours, and not feel like I should be doing something else.

You can tell you husband it is different and yet the same. Different because it is really relaxing and there is so many different things to do and yet same, but good same. Like it is clean, the cast members are knowledgeable and friendly, etc. It feels like home - like it is supposed to feel!! The only "same" part between WDW and VB that isn't so good are those Disney prices on sundries, etc. But I still think it is worth it!!

I hope you book your trip and you have such a great time you can say "I told you so!" :cool1:

I just called MS to book Vero. I wanted Jun 25- July 7. No availability after July 2nd, and June 26th was not available. So, I took Jun 25, wait list the 26th, then booked through July 2. Then, I realized we are going to drive, to save DH a vacation day, we would need to check out on Sat. the 1st. I asked her to change the check-out date. When she did that, I LOST the 27th!!!!! It disappeared! She said so many people were booking. She put me on hold and came back to say she got back the 27th. :cool1:

Vero beach, here we come!

Will it be difficult to get reservations for a Sun/Mon in early Nov at the 7 month booking time?

I would think there should be some availability. School is in session, and no major Holidays around those dates. Good luck!

we booked for July 2006 back in early September and there was limited choice for July back then. We also had to change to different dates. It will be our first time  cant wait

Vero Beach is my home resort and I'm so happy people are so enthusiatic about staying there. ::MinnieMo

Don't know how flexible your dates are but August is generally not as crowded. We have gone to VB in August each of the last 3 years and it is WONDERFUL!!!!! :rotfl:

For our Nov dates I going to try for a 2 bdrm, but we could also do 2 studios if the 2 bdrm is not available.

Just curious, what size unit are you trying to book?

A one bedroom. I just checked online, and I authorized auto-confirm for June 26th (the night we wait listed) and it was THERE! We got it! So our week is complete. We will be there June 25 - Jul 1. :cool1:

DH wants to drive up to Animal Kingdom to go on Expedition Everest. Yeah, well, he can take the two older ones, while my youngest DS and myself stay back and "relax" at the ocean. I don't ever plan on going on that ride! :scared1:
