Ok, I am a manger at a brokerage firm. I have 10 people working for me. It can get pretty intense sometimes dealing with them, answering to my boss, dealing with other managers and all of the brokers and sales assistants in the firm.

A few of us were talking about cleanig our houses yesterday, and I said (not snotty-like), "my cleaning lady is at my house today, so I am very lucky, when I get home my house will be clean". Someone said "oh, it must be nice to have money! You must make a lot of money compared to the rest of us"

I hate that! Yes, I make a good salary and bonus. I have been there for almost 17 years. But I am far from rich. I get up at 4:40 every morning, commute to downtown Chicago, don't get home until 5:40, make dinner almost every night and work my butt off on the weekends, laundry, extra cleaning, etc.

That just irratates the hell out of me when someone says that.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I totally understand. Some people don't realize that we all make choices of what we want to spend our money on and our time doing... I get teased/harassed about going to WDW every year. But we bough DVC points when we had some extra cash we could invest, and do all the other money savers... Annual Passes that get used for 2 trips, etc... It is a choice we made.

I work only half-time, and at a HS to boot. VERY FEW people know that I have a cleaning service! DH & I decided that when we moved to this big house, I would have someone come in every other week to clean the bathrooms, vacuum, dust, change the beds, clean the hardwood floors.... It's the absolute best $$ I spend every month. Maybe - if it comes up another time - just admit that you do w/o other things!!

I always say that my cleaning lady is my Birthday gift. If you break it down it is about the same as the gift that you would get. :D

Don't let them get to you. {{hugs}} I don't care if you're rich, poor or inbetween.:)

It irritates the hell out of me when someone calls me smart. I guess we all have our irritations.:)

But Shannon, I am sure you are smart (Please do not take offense). I can tell by your posts and knowing what you do for a living that you are smart.

But, it is very apparent that I am not rich or have money to throw around. Hell, I think I have to give up eating (and possibly breathing) to pay for the "Tank" LOL

I just with people would understand that DH and I are average poeple working out butts off for what we want.

Oh, sorry Jason. I will try to keep it short from now on :p

This is where you have to be good at retaining all the "insignificant personal info" offered by your co-workers....

I.E., a co-worker mentions she gets her nails done every other week...if they take lavish vacations...if they prefer designer clothing...if they're driving expensive lease cars, etc., etc. THEN you casually compare THEIR priorities and yours.

I.E., my husband and I are fortunate in that we take a cruise (or two!) every year, so we get much the same feedback ("must be nice to be rich!").

I'm quick to remind them we drive Saturns, we rarely go out for dinner, we've spent the last 3 years having live-in elderly parents (his & mine, consecutively) and our cruises are our one "alone-time splurge" during the year. Usually shuts them up ;)

Denise < --- now if I could ONLY find a great housekeeper! {grin} Tried my niece, but that didn't work out at all.....

What do I do for a living, Tank Girl?;)

The way I see it you and the cleaning person are both doing each other a favor. You're too busy working to clean your house the way you want, and she probably needs money. It's not like you have a live-in maid and butler (or do you?;) ). Those you work with might be poor money managers and you're a good money manager. Don't let them get to you.:)

I don't have anyone right now but I'm planning on changing that as soon as I can work a way to pay for it. There are several other people I work with that have someone to clean. I'd like to have someone coming every week so it can get expensive but it's well worth it!

LOL Shannon, You are a "computer lady". I admire that. Computers are such a big part of our daily lives. To have the knowledge you do is definately a plus in the world today.

Other than being a computer savvy person, you are a sweet, caring person, a teriffic mom and SO. As far as I am concerned, you have it all girl! :D

LOL! I don't have a cleaning lady.;) (JUST KIDDING! I don't have a Kit doll either;) ).

I'm only a semi computer person. I know enough to get a headache.;)

I think you're pretty alright yourself.:)

Please don't let it bother you! According to  SOME:rolleyes: people I'm rich too just because I went to Disney World and bought a home in the same month. And the people who were talking about me don't even KNOW me personally:rolleyes:

We are far from rich also. We are just lucky that my father worked his butt off in his lifetime to provide us with a comfortable living if something happened to him....well it did...he passed away at 59 years old from diabetes that he didn't know he had. Believe me I would live in a box to have my daddy back!

Just enjoy what you have and are able to do. The heck with what people think.

It is never a "good thing" to receive money because a loved one passed away, but if it does happen, as in your case, it is nobody's business but yours.

Think of it as "something nice in your life" that your Dad would want you to have.
