Vent re: Dumbo and adult only riders

Adults get everything there -- why not reserve the very few things that are very difficult to get for the young children (for example, riding Dumbo in less than 45 min wait, a meal at Chef Mickey's to meet Mickey himself). Winnie and Peter Pan, okay. But the wait in Dumbo is ridiculous and the character meals -- come ON. The food is not good so you wouldn't go for that.

"Adults get EVERYTHING there"? My personal opinion is just the opposite. As an adult couple traveling without kids for the last couple of years, I see families with children get special treatment all the time. Even when it comes to The Year of a Millions Dreams. I know that when I enter the parks, I most likely will not get chosen for dream fast passes or to ride in parades and we never have.
Small children can ride almost everything at MK Even young children can ride the mountains if they meet the height requirement.

As far as the charactor meals, I love them. DH and I go to at least one every trip. I actually DO like the food at Chef Mickeys and Crystal Palace. I go for that more than anything else. I will say hi to the charactors when they come around and maybe get a goofy picture taken with them but I am paying full price for doing so and I should be able to enjoy myself without people like you judging my motives for doing so.

Are you serious? If so Bahahahha. Disney is for Everyone. It shouldn't matter if every elephant was occupied by an adult. They paid to get in. If you want a vacation without lines and wait times go to the beach.

Thanks for a good laugh today.

And couple with no kids should not go to Chef Mickey? Amazing.

WDW is great for adults, but without the children wanting to go back year after year, it couldn't exist. It really is first and foremost for children.

I'd also like to point out your opinion is incorrect as it applies to my wife and myself.

I grew up living Disney. I came back with my wife and my wife alone. We visited Disney Land Paris BEFORE we ever had children. We visit now because we love everything about it. Our kids love it just as much, but we visit again and again for what we enjoy as a family. Not because it's just for kids.

Yes, I went to WDW in the 70's when I was 5 years old. I have great memories. I want other children to have the same great time I did. I guess I am sensitive to the heat and waiting and know it is really difficult for small children to endure the heat and long lines. And I know that character meals are the highlight of their time there and many of them are booked solid. So if we left those tables to families with small children, more children could experience them.

WDW is great for adults, but without the children wanting to go back year after year, it couldn't exist.

Now I just think you're stirring the pot. Go down and post all of your posts from this thread on the solo/singles boards. Go ahead I dare you.

Children really dictate to their parents this much?

Oh, I dunno, I think that maybe it's dumb for adults to even GO to WDW. All they do is act silly and childlike, with these big goofy grins plastered on their faces. The rides are CLEARLY all designed for children, the colors in the park are all bright, like you'd find at a kindergarten, actually. So it's really stupid for an adult to even be there, much less have any sort of fun that is clearly reserved for children...

An adult's place is at the side of a happy child, just to make sure they don't get into some sort of trouble, and to pay the bills. Please, adults, STOP HAVING FUN. You're offending the sensibilities of so many that think only children should laugh and play.

I guess you'll find me on the rocking chairs in front of Crockett's Tavern, and nowhere else.

:lmao:

Oh Mindy you crack me up!

Not true at all! My husband and I don't have kids, and we have been many, many times. We have several couple friends without kids, and they also go many times each year. We're all big kids at heart, and that's all that matters!

Okay, I know I am going to get a lot of flak about this, but I am posting anyway.

Dumbo is a ride that small children LOVE. AND it has one of the longest lines of all rides in the MK (usually). Small children (toddlers, preschoolers) have very few rides just for them that we KNOW will not scare them like dark rides, etc. I really hate seeing adults taking up a Dumbo seat without a kid. I mean, come on. Give this one to the little kids, okay? They have a hard time waiting in line as it is.

Thank you :)

Yes. I'm really going to get blasted for this one, but I think the character meals should be reserved for the little ones as well.

Sorry. I guess I just don't get it. Before I had a child I took my husband to WDW because he had never been and I was in Orlando on business, so he met me there. We went to the GF reservation desk and asked about dinner reservations and the cm was, like, "It's your lucky day! A table is available for CRT." We were like, "okay." We ended up walking up to CRT and looking at each other like, "Now, why do we want to eat here?" We skipped the reservation. This was in 2002 and credit cards weren't necessary. We went to O'Hana instead (they had the pineapple and caramel then, I remember. Not to get off topic).

I guess I only really am into Disney because of my child. Once she becomes a teen it will probably be Universal all the way.

After reading all the posts and reading your post again I realize you are not a disney person... and just attend the parks because your child wants too. sounds like you are being forced to go...

is there a way for other family members to take your little one?
plus universal has places for little kids too... have you thought of taking them there often?

I go at rope drop everytime. I've never had to wait for more than the third Dumbo ride. Where do you draw the line? Should I make my two girls ride in the same elephant so others get on quicker? Nope. They are old enough for their own. what else do we limit? I think the key point in this thread is that some people want preferential treatment over others. I'm sorry but everybody deserves to have fun at Disney. I will always allow kids to have fun at WDW because it brings me happiness not because some think they are entitled to have more fun than me. I won dream fast passes for like the 10th time in March. My wife and I immediately gave them to some kids so they could have fun. I'd hate to think that people around me thought they were more entitled to them than me.

I think the very existence of the DISboards argues against your statement. Hundreds - no, thousands - of adults who want to go back year after year, and the majority of us would do so whether we had kids or not.

Walt created Disneyland (and WDW) as a destination for families. He didn't specify ages. And 'family' means many things. Everything from honeymooning couples, to parents with adult children, even my 'found' family of friends that I enjoy traveling with.

I'm not condemning your opinion; Disney's of little interest to you, and that's perfectly OK. Many adults share your opinion. You probably just won't find many of them here, amongst the WDW nuts. ;)

I just think people could do what I did -- look around at all the children waiting, see how sloooooowwww the line is moving, and use their common courtesy to give it up for the small ones, and hightail it to Splash or Space or something.

Common courtesy? That's hard to come by these days. I also had the experience of a grown woman elbowing my son to get to Buzz Lightyear before he did. And what about the poster asking if a 25 year old could go to BBB? Sorry, I just find it...odd.

The OP is just saying, give the little kids a chance!

Now everyone breathe....

I just asked my 9 and 10 year olds about this.

My oldest looked at me like I was crazy.

My 9 yr old wants to know who said Dumbo was just for kids?:rotfl2: :rotfl:

Also Dreams are given out very specificly, the CM's have no say in who gets a dream. Adults as well as kids have an equal shot.

:rotfl: So CRT is out for adults because of the characters, right? Guess adults don't like the castle at all?? And Akershus, because of the princesses, should be taken off the table as well -- even if I like to Norwegian food? :confused3

Maybe to simplify things, you could just post a list of rides, shows and restaurants where adults without kids should be allowed! :rotfl2:

BTW... you are aware that the load times on Dumbo have nothing to do with "adults" taking up space right?

Dumbo just takes a long time to load and unload with the way it's set up.

Honestly I feel the OP does not have a very open mind from the posts that are so worrisome over what other people are doing. :confused3 Worry about yourself and stop judging other people, I say.

It actually could be considered fact that Disneyland / world was not created to be geared towards children. The proof? A myriad of quotes by Walt Disney himself, repeatedly saying things along the lines that adults are children.

There are PLENTY of things for small children to do at Walt Disney World. There are plenty of ways to do these things while avoiding lines.

I agree the OP is here to stir the pot a bit... why else would one lash at childless adults who just want to relax on a board full of WDW-goers?

You'll go gray quickly with attitudes like that.

WDW is great for adults, but without the children wanting to go back year after year, it couldn't exist. It really is first and foremost for children.

As has been pointed out many times before, you couldn't be more wrong. How many people have weddings there or take their honeymoon there?

How about people that weren't fortunate enough to go as a child? They finally save up enough money to go. Should they give up their spot in line to a child? Even if they've never got the chance to experience it before? Wow, that's discrimination if I've ever heard it before.

Personally, I think negative people who try to dictate where people eat and what people ride shouldn't be allowed at Disney.

They have a chance. They are in line right behind me. :rotfl: To say your child has a bigger right to ride Dumbo than an adult who wants to is FLAT OUT WRONG. There is no one here who would say that elbowing a child is condonable. These two things are not even related or comparable.

Just for the record, No I have never rode it by myself but I respect the right for others to do so.

I have a great time taking my child, and now that I have another one on the way, I'll be taking her as well. In one sense you are right - I only go to take my children and I have a great time doing it. If my husband and I got a weekend away, we would not be going to WDW without them. We'd be more likely to go to Universal if we wanted to hit a theme park for the weekend alone. My joy comes with seeing my daughter react to the characters and rides.

plenty of moms got to BBB with their daughters... nothing odd about it at all.
