Vent re: Dumbo and adult only riders

Yes. I'm really going to get blasted for this one, but I think the character meals should be reserved for the little ones as well.

I guess I only really am into Disney because of my child. Once she becomes a teen it will probably be Universal all the way.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you on both counts. I have kids myself but in NO way should Dumbo, character meals or character lines be limited to kids only. Disney is for everyone and we are all just big kids when we're there. One of the best things about Disney is that there are PLENTY of rides and attractions for all ages.

You mentioned you were only really into Disney because of your child. My question is did you go to Disney when you were a child? If not, I can understand your perspective as it relates to your child. But, there are so, so
many of us with wonderful memories of Disney growing up, that much of the reason we take our kids to Disney is to give them some of their own memories and re-live our childhood memories as well. :)

You know, an adult is not going to ride dumbo (kidless) unless they enjoy it.

If they do enjoy it, why should they skip doing it so someone else can ride it with less wait? Is the other persons fun more important?

Drop me in the category of those who disagree with the original poster.

With OP comments regarding todlers and preschoolers, at least in my families case, our son 4 at the time of original visit with him) would not have gone on "Dumbo" without my wife or I, so (again, in our case) it would mean an adult having to go on anyway.

I mean adults without a child. Of course an adult with a child would be okay -- the adult is not taking up a Dumbo all to themselves.

Nope, sorry I totally disagree on this one.

Disney is for children of all ages, for the young and the young at heart, a very wise man once said this.

I do have a child, but that is not why I go to Disney, I was going to Disney long before then.

Disney does put limitations on some things like the kiddie areas of the waterparks and some play areas elsewhere, but mainly for safety reasons. If something is just for kids, then Disney would say so.

I enjoy character interaction including character meals and don't feel guilty in the least.

So at this point in time, a ride on Dumbo is included in park admission, no matter what your age.

Your time in line would be no shorter if the adult had a three year old sitting next to them, so I don't see the problem, really. :confused3

First of all, I would have to say that I rarely see adults riding alone. This isn't what's causing the lines to be so long. A day's full of solo adults might add a couple of minutes. So what. Big deal. Again, most everybody realizes it's going to be a long wait. That's why I get there at rope drop and let my kids ride it as early as possible. Anybody who complains about the wait time only has themselves to blame. Get there earlier!

Yes, I went to WDW in the 70's when I was 5 years old. I have great memories. I want other children to have the same great time I did. I guess I am sensitive to the heat and waiting and know it is really difficult for small children to endure the heat and long lines. And I know that character meals are the highlight of their time there and many of them are booked solid. So if we left those tables to families with small children, more children could experience them.

WDW is great for adults, but without the children wanting to go back year after year, it couldn't exist. It really is first and foremost for children.

I disagree. Dumbo should be for everyone, at all times, no matter how long or short the line is. If parents are concerned that their young children are having to wait in line too long, there are ways to avoid that - go at the time of day when the lines will not be unbearable. We went during Easter week, which is one of the most crowded weeks at WDW, and my kids (and I, in my own elephant because none of the kids wanted to ride with me) hopped right onto Dumbo with no line at all. I think Disney is for everyone. If an adult wants to ride Dumbo, I say go for it. Likewise, I like that at almost every restaurant in WDW children are welcome at all times.

No it is not. Walt Disney World is first and foremost for all people who are kid's at heart.

Oh, I dunno, I think that maybe it's dumb for adults to even GO to WDW. All they do is act silly and childlike, with these big goofy grins plastered on their faces. The rides are CLEARLY all designed for children, the colors in the park are all bright, like you'd find at a kindergarten, actually. So it's really stupid for an adult to even be there, much less have any sort of fun that is clearly reserved for children...

An adult's place is at the side of a happy child, just to make sure they don't get into some sort of trouble, and to pay the bills. Please, adults, STOP HAVING FUN. You're offending the sensibilities of so many that think only children should laugh and play.

I guess you'll find me on the rocking chairs in front of Crockett's Tavern, and nowhere else.

I love Dumbo and I ride it whenever the line is not too long. I paid my admission and I stood in line, so I get to ride. If Disney said it was off limits to me for X reason, then I would not ride.

How many adult only riders are on Dumbo at a time? Are lots of children left to stand in line for long periods of time while the ride fills up with adult riders?

We were there at rope drop, believe me. It still took 4 cycles to get on the ride and I saw plenty of single riders. Big ones.

Sorry I gonna have to disagree, most folks don't let their kids pick vacation spots, the adults pick. Also one of Disney's cash cows is DVC, which membership is for over 30 years, so why would folks buy it if they only visit for their kids? What about PI, Boardwalk, World Showcase, heck Epcot in general? Sorry, but Disney is not first and formost for children.

There are far more age restrictions for children than adults at WDW. Spa anyone? Disney values the adult dollar, how many 4 year olds have a good paying job and plenty of discressionary income?

Loved Dumbo before we had kids. Love him now. Sorry but this is the silliest thing I have ever heard. Kids don't like to wait for anything. Should the childless not get on a resort bus until every child gets on first? What about at character meals? Should a childless family have to wait longer so me and my kids can be seated first? For many Dumbo is the trophy ride at WDW. A trip is just not complete without a ride on the flying elephant. I don't agree with the OP at all. YMMV.

I go to character meals and will continue to do so.

I go back year after year and I did not get to go as a child. I pay to get in and I buy food etc. Actually I spend more per day than that toddler does. WDW is for children and children at heart. I am the later and will continue to go as long as I am able to and WDW is magical.

"You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway."

Walk Disney World is for everyone.

If we followed this idea of kids only for Dumbo where would it stop? I'm sorry but I disagree completely. I have three children myself and I would never consider someone as being in the wrong for wanting to ride a classic ride like Dumbo. With kids or not it's not my place to judge how others take in the Magic of WDW
