Vent re: Dumbo and adult only riders

I have a great time taking my child, and now that I have another one on the way, I'll be taking her as well. In one sense you are right - I only go to take my children and I have a great time doing it. If my husband and I got a weekend away, we would not be going to WDW without them. We'd be more likely to go to Universal if we wanted to hit a theme park for the weekend alone. My joy comes with seeing my daughter react to the characters and rides.

And as you have pointed out this is what works for YOU and reflects how YOU feel. Unfortunately in this case Disney World is EVERYONES happy place :).

Personally, I think negative people who try to dictate where people eat and what people ride shouldn't be allowed at Disney.

No one is dictating anything. It is simply an opinion, one that may conflict with yours.

Do you respect the right of others to have a differing opinion?

Different opinions are welcome on this website, right? Just want to be sure...

The OP was just posing her idea...people are welcome to agree or disagree. But this isn't the cult of Disney, right? We're allowed to debate and have interesting discussions, right?

:confused3

plenty of moms got to BBB with their daughters... nothing odd about it at all.

I'm talking about the 25 year old poster who wanted to have HER hair and makeup done, with no kids in her party. She was asking if that was frowned upon, or allowed, or what.

so true..shhh dont tell my kids.. but I dont go for them.. I go for me.

Honestly I feel the OP does not have a very open mind from the posts that are so worrisome over what other people are doing. :confused3 Worry about yourself and stop judging other people, I say.

It actually could be considered fact that Disneyland / world was not created to be geared towards children. The proof? A myriad of quotes by Walt Disney himself, repeatedly saying things along the lines that adults are children.

There are PLENTY of things for small children to do at Walt Disney World. There are plenty of ways to do these things while avoiding lines.

I agree the OP is here to stir the pot a bit... why else would one lash at childless adults who just want to relax on a board full of WDW-goers?

You'll go gray quickly with attitudes like that.

I'm not talking about banning adults from the parks. No way. I'm just asking people to hang back on Dumbo since it is a slow loading ride and most kids are very excited to ride it -- more so than any other ride. If anyone is that passionate about it of course they can ride it. I'm not suggesting any rule be made against adults riding it. I liken it to giving up a seat for an elderly person or pregnant woman. Or holding open the door for anyone. There are plenty of other rides. Dumbo is just a midway ride - nothing special really except kids love the fact that it is dumbo. Any carnival has this ride -- usually they are airplanes.

Again.. I see no problem with it even if she was solo. She sure is allowed. She is a paying customer.

Well see, DH and I would still go to Disney even if the kids weren't with us for the weekend. We love it there. Oh and we would definetly ride Dumbo along with all the other rides.

Well I would like it if people who didn't enjoy the parks in the first place would stay away and leave more room for me. It would be a much happier place without all the negative "Disney is only for children" people.

Alas I don't get to say who can and cannot go to WDW :headache: .

Oh, I dunno, I think that maybe it's dumb for adults to even GO to WDW. All they do is act silly and childlike, with these big goofy grins plastered on their faces. The rides are CLEARLY all designed for children, the colors in the park are all bright, like you'd find at a kindergarten, actually. So it's really stupid for an adult to even be there, much less have any sort of fun that is clearly reserved for children...

An adult's place is at the side of a happy child, just to make sure they don't get into some sort of trouble, and to pay the bills. Please, adults, STOP HAVING FUN. You're offending the sensibilities of so many that think only children should laugh and play.

I guess you'll find me on the rocking chairs in front of Crockett's Tavern, and nowhere else.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Couldn't find a smiley in a rocking chair!!

Once again, thank you. :)

Wait a minute..... is this a special ride adults should hang back on or is it just a Midway ride that is nothing special?

Ok, to make up for the fact that DH and I will be riding Dumbo without children on our next trip, I would like to announce that we will NOT be going to Stitch's Great Escape. There will be two extra places in line for anyone who would like to go there. :rotfl:

I wasn't trying to imply that you were talking of banning adults from the parks, and put in this light I do acknowledge your opinion. You make good points. I know that myself, I'd probably go on it once just to do it, then not come back to it. Others have their own likes and dislikes and quite frankly, I never thought of it as a big deal, and I am still of the opinion that it shouldn't be one, but hey, we all have different reasons, right?

My DS (who was 5 last trip) was way more excited about BTMR than Dumbo. Trust me- he rode it quite a few times. Should I have told the adults to get out of the way because he was more excited about that ride than any other ride in all the parks? How about my 2 year old son who rode POTC more times than Jack Sparrow himself? Want to talk about excited? There is always going to be a ride that children love and are excited about.
