No one is dictating anything. It is simply an opinion, one that may conflict with yours.

Do you respect the right of others to have a differing opinion?

Different opinions are welcome on this website, right? Just want to be sure...

The OP was just posing her idea...people are welcome to agree or disagree. But this isn't the cult of Disney, right? We're allowed to debate and have interesting discussions, right?

:confused3

I'm sorry, the OP was ranting about a generally acceptable behavior that is practiced by people on this board. That isn't just stating an opinion, that's accusing other DISers of being rude. And, you know, she has a right to do that - but then she shouldn't be surprised when the people she has just called out justify themselves or tell her to MYOB.

Okay, I know I am going to get a lot of flak about this, but I am posting anyway.

Dumbo is a ride that small children LOVE. AND it has one of the longest lines of all rides in the MK (usually). Small children (toddlers, preschoolers) have very few rides just for them that we KNOW will not scare them like dark rides, etc. I really hate seeing adults taking up a Dumbo seat without a kid. I mean, come on. Give this one to the little kids, okay? They have a hard time waiting in line as it is.

Thank you :)

This is exactly why I never have ridden on this ride.. too afraid of the glares I would get from parents with kiddies waiting. Someday though I hope to ride at least once.

You make good points.

The primary point i see from the original poster is that her child not having to wait in line "as long" is more important than an adult riding something they enjoy (at all, since they suggest adults should skip that ride completely).

A completely out of bound sense of entitlement, in my opinion.

Well Op you are certainly getting the flak you thought you would.

Everyone has paid and has a right to have a wonderful time at Disney. I think I am as excited as my ds to go to the character meals, get pictures taken with characters and ride the rides. As a mom, I think a big part of my pleasure is going to come from watching my son have a wonderful time.
Also my dh has a very stressful job and we don't get as much family time as we would like. We are looking so forward to a week of all of us acting like kids and just getting away from the real world and having a great time. I would hate to have someone tell me I am to old to go on a ride!!!!!!!

That being said I do think giving up your seat on a ride to a small child sounds so kind even though you are entitled to it. I always find it refreshing when adults let kids get in front of them along a parade route although they have stood there longer waiting and paid more to get in. Or the person that gives up a bus seat for a pregnant woman or elderly person. That person paid to get on the bus and has a right to that seat, but it so nice that they gave it up to someone else. I was so thankful when someone gave up there bus seat on a very crowded bus in Washington DC so that I could sit down with my exhausted child on my lap.

Wait a minute..... is this a special ride adults should hang back on or is it just a Midway ride that is nothing special?

It is special for children because the cars are in the form of Dumbo. In reality, it is the same type of midway ride that you see in any other carnival. Actually, there is a more adult version at MK. It's called Astro Orbiter. Most small kids would be afraid to ride that one.

You know you could look at it as a life lesson for your kiddo. Good things come to those who wait. I grew up in Ohio and would go to Kings Island and Cedar Point every year. It was the norm to have lines that were sometimes hours long. You knew that part of your day would be spent in the lines. And it can get really hot and humid in Ohio (the humidity will get ya!) too. There's nothing wrong with your child learning that some things aren't available for instant gratification. In this day and age, the kids think meals take 3 minutes to cook, videos are instantly available on their tvs, grandma is just a cell phone call away. Everything is instant. There's nothing wrong with a little reminder that not everything is handed to you immediately. If your kids like Dumbo, great. It's a good opportunity to teach them patience.

JMHO....I don't bother with what others think at Disney. I don't look at the Brazilian tour groups and lament their visit. I don't judge those in ECVs or bigger kids in strollers. I worry about myself and my family only. I highly recommend that to others. It makes for a more enjoyable day.

I know, I know, I was trying to be fair.

Come ride with us! Who cares what anyone thinks! Have a great time and enjoy yourself.:cutie:

Oh my gosh I would hope no one would stare at you :). When I take my kids on the rides the last thing I'm looking at is other people :). There is to much to enjoy and take in to focus on negative things in the parks :wizard:

Actually it is me that is terrified of that ride! My kids love it!:scared1:

Yes I am quite aware of the other version in Tommorowland. Which I'd like to point out both of my older children have loved since they were ready to ride it :). I would hardly consider it an "adult version" since there is no height requirement on that ride ;). My youngest will be riding with me this Oct.

At Crystal Palace our waiter was very nice and gave us a front of the line pass for 4 people to ride Dumbo. My dd said she wanted to ride it with my mom. My husband and I hung back because the line was so atrociously long there was no way we were going to occupy a Dumbo ourselves. We took pictures instead. We rode every other ride that day, but IMO Dumbo is just so popular with the little ones and such a long wait, I'd rather see kids get a chance to ride it.

The OP has a valid opinion. Well, I did see the OPs point until post #38; the OP had me until she pulled it into most things. Without a child, there is no way I would wait in line for Dumbo. I can’t stand that line. It is the slowest moving line in all of WDW, I swear. And, I don’t find the ride that wonderful. Not even as a 4yo was I ever thrilled with Dumbo. I was always happy to skip it, but my sister had to go on it. Now, if you took that position on Peter Pan, forget it. That one is actually interesting, not just a midway ride, and is worth long waits.

However, unlike the OP, I didn’t think adults should be banned, by Disney or self-imposed. If they want to sit through that line, all the power to them. My kids understand that if they want to go on Dumbo, they have to wait, a long time. We usually hit it late at night for that reason. My kids hate waiting in line, too, and while they like the ride, it isn’t a have-to-do-NOW ride. Maybe they should get a fast pass system for Dumbo.

Now, once you get to character meals, sorry. While as adults only, we won’t monopolize the characters or get autographs, we do like some of those meals; DH can’t go to WDW without going to LTT. And beyond CRT for breakfast, they aren’t that hard to get into. Seriously. Right now we have the problem that we would like to try Akerush in Norway, but my boys don’t want to dine with the princesses. DH and I would do that though if we didn’t have our boys with us.

As far as the kids wanting to go back year after year, yes they do, in our family. But that isn’t why we go. My kids don’t pick the vacations; it’s my money and my time, so I’ll pick where we go. Now, I’ll make sure they have a good time wherever we go because I don’t want to hear it, but I decide. DH and I will still be going long after the kids; we’re talking about how to get there without our kids now! We see tons of adults there without kids.

Very altruistic of you to forgoe getting on a (according to your other posts) "carnival ride" that you don't really enjoy.

Okay...enough with the attacks, people. It's just a different opinion!

Take a deep breath and relax...... :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

Um that wasn't an attack, that was MY OPINION, that thing that you seem to think that everyone should be allowed to have. Why can't I post mine if you are allowed yours?

I really, truely wish people who didn't like the parks and only went there because of their children would stay away.

And just for the record this wasn't an attack either...

After reading all the posts and reading your post again I realize you are not a disney person... and just attend the parks because your child wants too. sounds like you are being forced to go...

I have read this entire thread. And all I can say is... wow. I agree with the person from which I quoted.

I am all for abiding all rules and unwritten rules (manners, courtesy, common sense) but bypassing a ride just so small children can ride? Wow.

Even if I thought this way, I don't think I would say it out loud. And open it up on a message board. But, that's just me.

Walt said he wanted to build a place where adults and children could have fun together. Has the OP ever heard that quote? My husband and I are both 38 and we just went on the best trip ever this past September. WITHOUT our children. After 18 years, we really needed that.

I will say that I commend you for "giving" up your seat so other children can ride sooner then they would had you decided to ride yourself. I would just hope that people don't in turn decide to judge others for decided themselves to ride. As I've said 20 times, Disney World is EVERYONES happy place. :wizard:
