Vent re: Dumbo and adult only riders

It is one thing to choose not to go on a ride because you feel it is more for kids. It is another thing entirely to come on here and tell people that they are rude and selfish if they choose to ride it. That is what the OP has stated more than once.
QUOTE]

Where did the OP say that people were rude and selfish for riding Dumbo? I didn't read that. I seriously do not get why everyone is overreacting so much! If you want to ride Dumbo and you're an adult go ahead - what's the big deal! The OP never said NOT to! She just said what she thinks about it, and I happen to agree. Relax, it is not a big deal!

Go read all her posts again. If you can't find the condescending tone and the inferences of selfishness, you didn't look hard enough. :) And it's okay for you to relax too. :)

Okay, I know I am going to get a lot of flak about this, but I am posting anyway.

Dumbo is a ride that small children LOVE. AND it has one of the longest lines of all rides in the MK (usually). Small children (toddlers, preschoolers) have very few rides just for them that we KNOW will not scare them like dark rides, etc. I really hate seeing adults taking up a Dumbo seat without a kid. I mean, come on. Give this one to the little kids, okay? They have a hard time waiting in line as it is.

Thank you :)

What would you say about a mentally challenged adult who really wanted to ride Dumbo?
Sorry, this ride is for little kids. I know that mentally you are still quite young, but physically you are an adult and therefore cannot ride UNLESS you accompany a child.

And if your kid has that hard a time waiting in line, maybe s/he can't handle Disney yet. Or life, for that matter. We all have to wait in lines at some point. What does the kid do at lunch at school? What if they are last in line and there is a "food emergency", like the tray of spaghetti is dropped or there is not enough ketchup for the fries - something that causes a back-up? Can the child handle waiting a few extra minutes.

Sorry, but your proposition is ridiculous.

If my daughter would have wanted me to ride it with her I would have, but she wanted my mom to go on it with her. I was fine with it.

Oh my gosh!! YOUR MOM WENT ON THE RIDE WITH YOUR DAUGHTER???!!!

Why is it all right for YOUR Mom to go on, but "other adults" should not ride it so children can?!

Why didn't YOUR Mom "step aside" and let another CHILD ride with your daughter?!!!

PLEASE, enlighten us on your reasoning!!!!! :confused3

You must not have read all of the OP's posts. She clearly said that adults riding Dumbo were equivalent to the adults who don't hold open doors and/or give up seats on the bus thereby equating riding Dumbo to being rude and selfish. If you didn't see it, go back and re-read. It's there.

Like a previous poster said, she compared adults riding Dumbo to people who have no common courtesy. She also made comments like the castle being fake, and character meals. Read all of the OP's posts, not just the first one, and you'll see what we mean.

While I completely disagree with the OP - I think Disney is for everyone big and little kids alike - I never thought she was asking for adults not to ride Dumbo WITH kids, just not to ride Dumbo without kids.

Good point!

So OP, is it really just the childless adults that shouldn't be allowed to ride? Should I not be allowed to ride Dumbo again until I have a child?

I'm a 20something without kids and I love Disney I visit 2-4 times a year. One of my favorite rides is Peter Pan. You're safe from me and Dumbo (that ride scares the crap out of me at this age), but as my name suggests I'm a huge character fan. I went down for a 2 day trip in Febuary and I spent most of my time meeting and hangging out with the characters. I pay my admission into the park just like you, and I have a right to see them.
I also really enjoy the character meals; in fact when I go down in September I'm eating at about 8, and there are no children in my party.
From what I've read in your posts, you don't sound like a Disney fan. You sound like a guest upset about wait times and how hard it is to get dining reservations.

Oh it definitely is there. She has attacked anyone who does not agree with her. It is also odd to criticize Disney on a Disney forum. Most of the adults here love Disney or they would not be posting. And to state Universal does thigns better, Universal is better for adults, and that Cinderella castle is fake, takes away from the magic and the imagination of Disney that keeps kids of all ages from returning. I grew up an hour away from WDW and loved it so much that I even got married and honeymooned there. I do not think that I was too old for the park or that I should not go unless I have children with me because I personally love the magic of Disney World. I feel bad for the OP for not being able to be taken in by the park and that she sees it as an amusement park instead of a place where dreams come true.

In order to carry out the OP ideology, only children would be allowed to ride any number of MK rides -- Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Snow White, etc., all of which have long rides. If you carry out the OP to its logical conclusion, many rides would be banned to adults and only open to children or adults riding with children. This is truly discrimination and certainly not what Walt Disney had in mind. WDW is a magical place for everyone and everyone can enjoy the magic of each and every ride, child or adult.

I never went to Disney as a child. We have taken our kids- those are some memories I want them to have of their childhood. This last Aug we took my Mom to WDW with us it was her first trip. Now we all know the pictures parent riding Dumbo with their child it is a classic scene. Well, as a child I never got to do that so when we were there on our last trip I climbed into Dumbo with my MOM. It was a moment I had been waiting for. My kids rode with each other and one with my DH. I definitely don't feel guilty ablout taking up space on Dumbo because Mom and I rode it together. I finally got to do what the children in front of and behind me were doing. My kids are ages 8 to 13 they all still want to ride Dumbo on our next trip in July. Even the 13 year old and me, I will ride again with my Mom.

For those that don't think adults should ride that is fine stand by your beliefs for those who still love Dumbo even as an adult have fun. And for those who are making their first trip and are looking forward to riding dumbo with their kids or without a child, go with a plan that is the best way to avoid the lines.

I have to say it - c'mon now. Walt's vision was to build some time of amusement enterprise where the kids and the parents could have fun together. For those of us who choose not to have kids, or those of us who for whatever reason can't have kids, or don't have them yet.........we have the right to ride Dumbo.

Is turnabout fair play? How ridiculous would I be if I said/thought this: Let's Kimonos is a sushi/karaoke bar where people are eating raw fish, drinking cocktails and singing karaoke.....it's for adults. People shouldn't bring their kids to take up seats.

And, if you must know - my DH and I rode the Barnstormer once.

Good Grief. I have to give this one a laugh. :rotfl2:

Only in the minds of the minority. Ride on! :thumbsup2

When you're done with Dumbo, meet me at Barnstormer for a fly through! :goodvibes
I've ridden that before to, on my last trip with my mom.

I skipped Dumbo on my last trip though I think I may have to ride it this year though, since it's such a sentimental ride, especially in my family, and just because let's face it, I am just a big kid at heart.

O.k. I have been on the dis boards for almost a year now, and I think these boards have so much info, and truly helpful people with a lot of knowledge:disrocks: . I’m 33yrs YOUNG and I love to go to Disney. Me and DS13 go at least twice a year and this year we are fortunate to be able to go 3 times By the way I rode Dumbo, me & DS13.

With that. I have to say that there have been 2 threads on the boards that really made me think about people and the way they present themselves YES I’m saying they have no class or intelligence.

Does anyone remember the thread about people putting there feet into the wishing well in fantasy land to either clean or relax there feet, well I found that totally appalling………….and then of course there is this thread totally ridicules and IMO the OP doesn’t even deserve all this attention. It’s obvious that this is the type of person that IMO has absolutely no morals values or even common sense.

We are all kids at heart regardless of size. This is why we go to Disney. If we pay our entrance fees and plan our trips well we should all enjoy everything Disney has to offer, this includes wait times and crowds. We will be going on our second trip in Sept and our third in Dec this year with two individuals that have never been. One each trip and both adults. We will ride everything, patiently wait our turn like everyone else. Although we won't play in Pooh's playground, the sprinkler park thing in Downtown Disney, the playground in Toon Town, the train in Downtwon Disney, and the squirting tiki's across from the carpets, that is for kids. Oh and all those dreams only kids get. Darn kids get everything. I wouldn't mind an adult stoller though, what a relief that would be to not have to walk around all day.
