pot still simmering?:confused3 don't think it's over OPs opinion (we're all entitled to one); just be prepared for different takes;)
Pick a cooler time of year with lesser crowds if you don't want to stand in line. You brought them to Florida, it gets that hot :sad2:. That is what water bottles, mister fans, etc are for.

Boy, you are a walking billboard for Universal, if it is so much better, go there then that will free up some spots in the Dumbo line ;).

 not quite sure what u meant by that comment, i'd like to think you aren't being decisive;) . Many visitors to Orlando love both parks equally for their special qualities (as i feel about my DSs  ).

It's the Pteranodon Flyers, which is a kids ride, but on Universal's website it says the anyone over 56" must be accompanied by a child meeting the height requirement which is 36" to 56". It does not say anything about you having to one child and one adult.

I have to know what ride this is. Can someone explain that to me? I looked up Universal Orlando, found a Jurassic ride, and all it says is that the height requirement is 42" inches or higher.

What's up with the seating for this ride??????

FYI, ANYBODY is permitted to ride, child or solo as long as you hit it up 1st, TMs have no issue if u enter vehicle before 10 am:thumbsup2 one of my fav rides

It's the same thing, except it's carpets instead of elephants. As far as rides go, I actually like Aladdin better, since the carpets can tilt as well, but Dumbo is more sentimental. Then there's also Astro Orbiter, which is again the same ride, but it just goes really high.
agree:) , the water feature is fun, same element on one fish, two fish @ U.

Are you kidding me? The adults on this board ARE characters. lol :lmao:

If only I had thought to dunk my butt in the fountain while dressed as princess last week at the P&PP....dang it!

I am pretty sure that if you have to tell everyone how incredible selfless that you are that it does negate the selflessness.

This thought came to mind as well. My mother-in-law is always trying to convince people how giving and selfless she is, but she is the most selfish person I have ever met. So selfish that even her own husband and children feel that way and they are embarassed by her actions. I would not be surprised if she and the OP were very much alike in personality.

mefordis implies yourself, not your kid. ;)

Maybe it is better if we all stop posting, I think this is what she wanted.... :stir: :stir: :stir:

The point is special things happen at disney world... adults ride dumbo, and children stay up way past their bed time, it's all part of the magic

I agree!!

Also, there are other things to consider:
I can only ride mild type rides (Dumbo!) because of panic attacks.
Some people may have other medical conditions where they can only ride certain rides. But we shouldn't have to validate resaons TO ride Dumbo or anything else.
I paid admission, drove 10 1/2 hours to get there, will miss a week's pay, and have saved $$ for a very long time to go to Disney: so I WILL ride Dumbo, eat dinner with the characters, hug Pooh, laugh with Goofy, and stay up past MY bedtime!

I meant no disrespect to Universal lovers. She just kept talking about how much Universal was better so I suggested she go there that would free up spots in the Dumbo line for me :lmao: !!

Without us adults Dumbo would be nothing! Kids would not (ok, would much less)want to ride it if not for the parent/adults excitement over it. It is the most basic of all the rides in WDW (this prim-evil whirl and the carpet ride) These are rides that you can ride at any given school carnival. Given the choice between Dumbo or Buzz (without all the hype we plant in their heads) I'm pretty sure most kids are going to pick buzz. BUT we (the adults) LOVE Dumbo and force that upon our children. Brainwashing them in to believing it is the greatest achievement of childhood... to ride Dumbo! Because like others said, it's the commercial, its the tradition, its the childhood memories, its being young again. Take the adults out of Dumbo and you might as well take the magic out of Disney.

And so if I even end up in WDW without my kids... yep I'd probably ride it with my wife... and you know what... we'd smile the WHOLE TIME! And no I don't think I was stealing the experience from a child, I don't think I should have to feel that way. But thanks for planting the thought in my head and trying to stealing a little magic from me.

Okay, I know I am going to get a lot of flak about this, but I am posting anyway.

Dumbo is a ride that small children LOVE. AND it has one of the longest lines of all rides in the MK (usually). Small children (toddlers, preschoolers) have very few rides just for them that we KNOW will not scare them like dark rides, etc. I really hate seeing adults taking up a Dumbo seat without a kid. I mean, come on. Give this one to the little kids, okay? They have a hard time waiting in line as it is.

Thank you :)

Hey Mefordis - I get where you are going with this, but c'mon everyone is paying for admission and should be able to ride whatever they want. What if they, the adult, are scared of dark rides! :-) I've got kids who love Dumbo, but I don't think others shouldn't ride it if they don't have kids. We'll gladly wait in line with everyone who wants to ride! Or, at least I will...my daughter might not like the wait....but hey, it's a good lesson for her! LOL

So I get your point, but think that you'll need to broaden your horizon a little bit... Disney rides are for everyone, in my humble opinion.

Thanks!

ahhh...gotcha:thumbsup2 we red-headed stepchildren of the DIS are sensitive...always getting blamed for the fall out from our evil step-siblings;)

btw, shores up my point as to opinions...

nothing wrong with anybody expressing their like or dislike as to a ride, park, restaurant, etc. better than another:confused3 ; just need to be ready to hear somebody else's subjective opinion too, preferably in a non-judgemental fashion. Believe that's what's tripping up the child only dumbo die hards...until Disney figures out that they could offer a package & charge extra for a special FOTL pass for the ride:rolleyes1 ; we all have equal status under the current guidelines.:goodvibes

I agree! AND I don't think girls should be allowed on Tom Sawyer's Island, and boys should be allowed to eat at the castle or meet the princessess. I don't think Latin Americans should be allowed to ride el rio del tiempo... come on they slow down the line and they can just see that stuff at home. Heck if you are from the UK don't you dare try to make an ADR for Rose and Crown. Stealing my ADR when you can just get that stuff back home! While I'm at it... if you have two good legs no fair taking the monorail after the park closes. That forces us all to wait longer to get on one. I think you should just walk back to the TTC. And NO kids should be allowed on... Well you get my point;)

I think the lines at dumbo are about to get much longer, with the biggest percentage of riders being adults. :rotfl2: Guess I'll skip this ride so all the little children can ride.

What would you say about a mentally challenged adult who really wanted to ride Dumbo?
Sorry, this ride is for little kids. I know that mentally you are still quite young, but physically you are an adult and therefore cannot ride UNLESS you accompany a child.

.

Exactly! I have had a similar conversation with DS13 who is on the autism spectrum but fortunately, the ride was not at a Disney Park. That is why we go to WDW every year and felt justified in purchasing DVC. DS can be himself there without the Ride Police telling him he's taking up someone else's valuable space.

Let me be the umpteenth person to say that "everyone is a kid at Disney World!" Amen and Hallelujah!

Sorry....but is this thread for real? I am not trying to intentionally start something here, but I read the OP...this was meant as sarcasm, right?

To say that adults without children should not ride a particular ride while at Disney....? I mean, it is a joke, right? Please clarify.

Read the rest of the OP's posts in the thread, you'll see that it is no joke, and that she thinks adults riding without children are rude and selfish.

Pot stirring? Maybe (or definitely) :stir:
A joke? It wouldn't appear not.
Funny anyway? Yes!

Won't stop anyone from riding Dumbo anyway and has inspired some of us who don't usually ride to ride again!! :dumbo:

Wow, I think that's sad :sad2: My fiance and I are adult-only travelers and we were mindful of children (letting them sit in front of us at the parade, etc) but we're entitled to be there as much as anyone else. We waited early for things to get good seats and I mean, why not?

Disney isn't just for children. Heck, Disney has an entire weddings division for ADULTS to get married AND Honeymoon there. Which is what we're doing by the way. And actually, I hadn't even considered Dumbo! Thanks for the tip! :rotfl2:

I understand what you are trying to say but I don't agree with it. Dumbo loads slowly because of its design, not because adult riders are clamoring to get on. Inconsiderate idiots aside (and there are always inconsiderate idiots everywhere) most of the adults w/o kids I have seen at the parks gladly make way for children when possible. If it was the last ride of the night and it was between me and a child I would gladly give up my spot. I learned how to wait patiently for rides like Dumbo (my fav. was Mr. Toad and remember how slow that would load?) as a child. I am sure today's children will live if they have to wait an extra 60 seconds to get on Dumbo.

Something that really rubs me about your post though is the idea that there are few things for little kids at Disney. There are also precious few things for adults only. Flame away but I wish there would be certain TS restaurants that had adults only dinner seatings. It is frustrating to try to enjoy a romantic dinner at CG or a Boardwalk restaurant at 8 or 9pm and be surrounded by cranky, crying little ones that should be in bed. But you know what - I lump it since WDW is for EVERYONE and if the only way parents can manage a nice meal is to bring a sleepy 2 y.o. to the CG so be it. I don't complain, just mind my business and enjoy my meal. I think the same can be said for standing in line for Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, the teacups, etc.

To the OP, I find it sad that you feel that way. You obviously just don't "get" what Disney World is all about. Your original post about Dumbo, the comment about character meals, the CRT reservation, how when your kids get older you will go to Universal....you obviously don't view WDW the way the majority of the posters here do. To us, WDW is an escape as well as a functional vacation destination.

The fact that my DW and I do not have children should IN NO WAY impact which rides we allowed to go on or not go on. For you to think that we should not be ALLOWED to ride is ignorant of the intent of Walt himself. As other have already said, everyone has paid their admission, everyone has waited in line. Everyone has the right to enjoy Disney World in a manner that makes them happy (assuming they don't do anything outside the established rules!). If that means a 90 year old grandmother gets a kick out of riding Dumbo, then I for one hope she gets to ride Dumbo. If it means a child is old enough and tall enough to ride Space Mountain and comes off the ride with the excitement that he can't wait to ride it again, who am I to complain because I had to wait in line behind him. That is the essence of Disney World. Obviously the "Magic" has been lost on you.

Your chief concern seems to be maximizing your own convenience until your children are no longer interested in coming to Disney. Here is a tip. The World does not revolve around you, your children or any one person for that matter. It is for EVERYONE to enjoy. Try it sometime. It might change your perspective.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, MY opinion is that it is sad that anyone would even suggest something so discrimatory on these boards. Walt envisioned WDW as a place where people could go to enjoy themselves, no matter what age they are. I doubt very seriously that he would have ever envisioned a WDW where others dictate where and when you can "enjoy" the rides. Very Sad.

Oh.... so now that there are (as you say) "FAKE" princesses inside the "FAKE" Castle it's ok now compared to when it was just the "FAKE" Castle?

With every post you make it becomes more and more clear that you just don't get Disney for what it really is.

You know what - they are fake princesses inside a fake castle. She does get Disney for what it really is - and in that her opinion is just as valid as anyone elses. If some people want to bathe in pixie dust and get tears in their eyes seeing the castle - that's really really cool. And there are going to be other people who see a huge and effective marketing machine - but one that their children enjoy. And that is what Disney REALLY is just as much as anything else.

I go to WDW as an adult to wonder at the logistics of the place - and there are a lot of Disney logistics geeks like me. Meeting fake characters in a fake castle isn't all that interesting to me. Autograph books interested my children when they were younger, but I don't see any reason to stand in line. I do understand that some adults want to dine with Cindy or ride Dumbo - and could care less about the tunnels under the MK and wouldn't dream of playing "spot the guy controlling the talking trashcan" - much less my husband's favorite game of "which is the security guy." For them, they do like the "magic" - but Disney is REALLY about a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

Oh, and by the way. :cool2: We went down the pool slide SEVERAL times at the resort and that was before the alcohol. :rolleyes1 Have fun and don't take life so seriously!
