Vegan dining options in and around Disneyland

I don't have a Whole Foods in my area, as I don't live in the USA. I'm not a big fan of the fake meats, but do love the Gardein Mandarin Chicken. I do now have the Daiya Cheese, but haven't had the time to try it out yet. I did find a bakery that has Vegan cupcakes that I checked out across town, and they were wonderful. And they make Vegan birthday cakes too! It's nice to have a basic idea of what's safe and what's not when visiting the mouse the end of next month, and appreciate all who have taken the time to post their knowledge. So that other's may use it on their vacations.

So, I'm here now and have mixed feelings about dining in Disneyland as a vegan. I will have a better report once our vacation ends, but so far it has been a real challenge. Surf's Up breakfast@ PPH the chef offered to make me a plate of steamed veggies and rice but failed to point out any vegan options on the buffet and failed to season the veggies and rice. It was fine, but a really really expensive plate of plain rice and veggies. I found fruit and an avocado/tomato salad on the buffet which was awesome. There were some cereals there as well that may have been vegan, and I'd bet they have soy milk available for those who ask, but I didn't ask. The chef was super nice though, and had I asked he likely would have seasoned the food and pointed out safe options on the buffet. I just didn't ask.

Blue Bayou was awesome. They made me a pasta with tomato and wine sauce with veggies. I ate it 5 hours ago and am still full (OK I have had a glass of wine 30 min ago so that helped). Haven't done much other DL dining yet, so I can't give an overall opinion yet. But City Hall does NOT have a list of vegan food. So you have to ask everywhere, which sucks.

Also, Sea World is SO NOT vegan friendly. Their popcorn is vegan, and they have fruit and bags of chips, but that's it. Bring your food and hide it under a sweater, and if you get caught tell them you have a dairy and egg allergy. They didn't really check my bag much but the bus driver said to mention allergy or special diet and they let you bring in food.

Thanks for the live report nancy drew! Any chance you are heading to Legoland? Your report of Sea World makes me concerned about other attractions...

No, we aren't going to Legoland this time. Try to ask around about bringing in food, because that may be your best bet there.

Still here, and things are looking a little better. I still haven't even tried any of the Mexican places. Bengal Barbecue, or Lucky Fortune, all of which likely have easily vegan foods, as we just haven't been around those places while hungry. I hope to get to those places befoe we leave, though I'm not even sure we will.

We did go to Whitewater Snacks at GCH and that has been a success for a few reasons. 1) They have a vegan veggie burger. The bun is NOT vegan, but the patty is (and it is great!). You can get it with fries that may or may not be vegan (the lady didn't seem to think they were) or fruit. 2) They have bread, bagels, and jars of peanut butter and jelly. Groceries! So I probably spent $10-$15 on bread, pb, and j, but that will make something like 10 sandwiches that I can actually eat (and my kids will eat a few as well) so that saves me a lot of hassle of having to ask. Now to figure out how to bring a sandwich into the parks (I don't really have a good container).

Also, at Tangaroa Terrace (at DLH) I was told they will customize anything if possible to make it vegan. I haven't taken them up on that, as I bought the fruit platter (huge, awesome, fresh fruit plate in a to go container), but I'll report back if we go back and try it. We are going to Minnie's breakfast at the Plaza Inn tomorrow, so I'll report back after trying that.

I'm glad we are here so many days, as it has taken me a while to warm up to asking and being slightly assertive/direct about my diet. I'm used to dealing with food allergies at WDW, where they seem to have it down to a science and have a set of alternatives ready for you to choose from. I was really thrown off at PPH where the chef suggested vegetables for breakfast, as at WDW my daughter, who had food allergies, was offered egg-free dairy-free Mickey waffles, pancakes, noodles, ice cream, brownies, cake, etc.
