VDH Opening

Same here...it's coming off elitist a bit at this point. It's like Kanye taking the mic from Taylor Swift. "I'm going to let you finish, but VGC is the best resort of all time!”

VDH makes a lot of sense to us for the number of times we go a year. Honestly... VGC doesn't make sense (especially at $300+ a point!) as we'd never be able to acquire enough points in the same use year for the amount of times and length of times we visit DLR. Hey, I'm happy for you! Welcome home!
Im so sick of the "value" comments too. Enough.... we know about the tax we know about the restrictions . I bought to save myself rack rate and to stay for the same price as the next door hotels who run $300+ TOT and aren't as nice. Sorry... they aren't staffed by disney and they just aren't but keep telling yourself they are. Enough.... I bought and I'm so excited. There are some smug responses that have now driven me to root for dues increases and other silliness when we are all one DVC family.

I got silenced on a Facebook chat for asking to stop treating these points like trading stock looking at long term reinvestment rates and shorts and just let me get excited about a freaking vacation. More excitement about a color changing splash pad and awesome headboards.... less about resale prices and what I can get per point on the rental market :)

Ok vent over

If VGC wasn’t my home resort already, I’d buy VDH. I’m very excited for those of you who are making it your home resort!

Thank you.

Welcome Home, neighbor! We bought as well and are SO excited!! 😊

10-11 Mins to the DL front gate on my old knees in the morning. 17 mins from the Tomorrowland Monorail station to the DL hotel (I timed it at the end of the day when our tired legs tried to get the monorail back and it was down!)
It's not a bad walk at all. It's not nearly as terrible as walking out of the Magic Kingdom and heading to your car the TTC late night.

I own VGC, and I too am happy for all those buying VDH right now. It’s a historic moment for west coast DVC and the new tower is beautiful. It’s really hard to compare VDH to VGC because they are such different products with very different size, theming and style. But considering there are only 2 DVC resorts in Anaheim, I can see how people can’t resist to compare. I’m just sad I can’t buy any more points.

I think VDH and VGC are both buys now … I like VGC more than VDH but if Disney Forward happens VDH is just as good. I think VDH is a good buy up to $270 ish and VGC is good up to $370 ish. Big variable is if people actually go to Disneyland and CA less going forward.

I like both the two California DVC resorts. Happy to stay at either one. Gives that true Disney bubble feeling with no buses or extra transportation to deal with. And the walk always takes you close or through Downtown Disney with the theme music playing and the smell of delicious food. Good for my shopping wife but not so good for my wallet!

Always end up at the gates with a corndog and drink in hand!

The trick is to eat that delicious food while your wife goes shopping. Win-win.

I know it’s just picture for now but in that photo just right outside of Disneyland Hotel to the right is Disneyland and to the right California Adventure. It would be pretty amazing it they built this.

And I’m so tired of people talking about how great VGC is in the VDH thread. I sure don’t think it’s worth $300/pp but was hoping to grab some if it dropped to less than $200/pp. VDH makes sense to a lot of us. Be happy for us.

Theme park would literally be right outside your VDH window if the expansion happens as envisioned so I’m not sure where the long walk would be. Boom - in the park. Unless they had attractions right there and made you walk all the way to the esplanade to enter the park which which would seem like cruel and unusual punishment when they have 3 entrances to DCA.

yup no long walks needed. We can dream :)

I was just talking about the comment where someone mentioned hopping over to ride Splash and then going back to the VDH pool. That was the long walk I was talking about. Just like you can't just hop over to, say, the Matterhorn, and quickly jump back to VGC. It's a bit of a walk. (Though obviously not terrible and not like hopping from parks to hotel at WDW.)

If Disneyland Forward happens, obviously all 3 hotels will basically be right inside various parts of the parks. I don't see anyone disputing that.

Yup! You mean the smug “ it makes no sense financially but as long as YOUR happy” replies?

We didn’t go into this blind, we know all about the TOT taxes, dues, etc. We ran all the numbers on various spread sheets. We’ve ran multiple scenarios before points charts came out and point prices using GCV, GFV and RIV for groundwork. For the multiple trips we take, days we stay and suites we stay in at DLH, we’ll recoup our initial outlay in less than 10 years.
Yes! I'm like I have 5 different spreadsheets with all my scenarios and I feel like I have to submit my homework to them to prove it does financially work for me over the imagined VGC contract that doesn't exist but theoretically has a price point and front loaded with points in my use year.

To me, I get it's a purchasing thread but it needs to be purchasing in reality.... it's so odd that on one side they are like the asking price for a stripped contract that closes in January is $290 can you believe it and then 2 seconds later are like well VGC is so much more cost efficient and a better investment.

I'm just beating a dead horse really but I've been an owner since 2015 and a dedicated rundisney person since 2007.... to have the Disneyland race finally return AND to potentially stay at my DVC home for a Disneyland race instead of the Marriott or Wyndham in ANaheim... I feel like I died and have gone to heaven. I'm not releasing my room at the Anaheim Inn until I get a reservation (I'm super nervous about the 16th) but it's going to be the best feeling when I do :)

Yup that was me with the potential dreaming fantasy of new entrance into critter country - Splash with Tiana and back to VDH pool lickity split. Correct currently that is a long walk.

I guess I’ll put in my two cents regarding the VGC VHD debate:
I owned 100 resale points at VGC and my plan was to add on 75 points at VDH to give me the “blue card” for that UY… I had told myself I would die holding onto those VGC points, even sell my actual home before selling my VGC home. Once the resale prices skyrocketed I had to do some soul searching. I called my guide and canceled the 75pt VDH sale I did on 5/2 and opted to purchase 175 split into 100 and 75pts.
I ended up selling my 100 VGC and it almost completely paid for my 175 VDH purchase.
So now all my cali points are direct and they can be used there or at New Poly\Fort Wilderness (assuming restrictions?).

Do I love VGC? Absolutely. More than VDH? Most likely. BUT I’m excited for the future potential of what could happen in the area. And I’ll still be happy if it stays parking lots.
I split up my purchase leaving the option for me to sell one of the contracts in the future and potentially rebuy into VGC a few years down the line. Or maybe I’ll always book VDH and waitlist VGC at 7 months for every stay and get lucky sometimes…
Overall I guess my point is DVC is very much an emotional purchase, and last time I checked feelings can’t be put into excel. And I love all the hotels because in the end I’m there to stay in the Disney bubble and enjoy the entire resort. I’m happy to be a part of this very passionate DVC family :)

I know that DVC is still a niche product but I wonder if or how VDH will impact the business of the good neighbor hotels and businesses outside of the bubble. Probably not much in the big picture but all these once patrons now buying VDH has to make SOME economic impact locally?

TBH the comments on this one haven’t been terrible, but I think I’m just immune now since there has been negativity with pretty much every new resort. Same when I was buying CCV and RIV, and RIV was the worst with downright mean comments. I don’t mind the comments about costs or decor or other things about the property, but I think negativity towards the purchasers as people is completely unwarranted.

I envy all those that bought VGC direct 14 years ago for less than $100pp. People will probably be feeling the same way about current VDH buyers 14 years from now. I totally agree that this is an emotional purchase. No matter how much you crunch the numbers, you can never replace that feeling of buying, booking, and staying at your new home resort. I wanna buy so bad!

Tee hee. Haters gonna hate.
Also… if you were to go back and track how many “never Riviera” posters ended up buying Riviera…. Haha. It’s a lot. :).
