VDH Opening

For those who haven’t seen these floor plans from the documents eons ago. I somehow giggle at there being 6 sinks in a 2 bedroom.

I wonder why they made the balcony in the 2 bedroom come from the primary bedroom (while the balcony in the 1 bedroom villas is off the living space). I could see if staying with immediate family that a dedicated 2 bedroom would work fine and if staying with friends you might want a 2 bedroom lock off so 2nd bedroom people don't have to come into your primary bedroom to access the balcony.

That is super interesting. My wife and I always loved to go out on the balcony and have a glass of wine and chat while the kids fall asleep in the living room of a 1BD. That couldn’t be done with the balcony off the living room.

I know there's been a lot of walk about what the points will look like.

But since it's only opening for cash in the beginning.....

Any ideas on what the cost per night would be? I'm mainly curious about the studio villas price compared to a standard hotel room at the Disneyland hotel. I searched some random days in early December and the nightly cost looks to be in the mid-500's. Just curious what the villas might end up being compared to that.

I'm not trying to thread crap, just genuinely curious...

Has anyone else cooled off on VDH since more information has become available?

For me, it started with the initial room renderings a couple weeks ago as i wasn't a fan of some of the rooms and found them to overall just be normal hotel rooms with no obvious charm. The lobby photos and video initially made a little more excited, but the more i look at them, I'm getting the same Marriott and in some cases even Howard Johnson vibes. Family members who I'd like to bring with me in the future unanimously say..."it's ok." I just look at it and can't imagine that Disney thinks the studios are worth 700-800 a night. The GV looks great, but~6k for a night cash? It's gotten to the point where with resale numbers being where they are, I've bid on a couple VGC contracts and may hold off indefinitely on VDH.

I just want to know...Is it just me?

No one knows yet. Articles speculate it will be the most expensive rooms at DLR when it opens. We'll find out on March 15th!

It's not just you. Plenty who's excitement have waned. But I'm sure there are plenty more who are very excited to buy. Personally, I view VDH as a really fancy Art of Animation. Some have compared the furniture and fixture as very IKEA.

No, not just you. I bought VGC resale with my savings I put aside for VDH a year and half ago. A DLH DVC was my dream. I said for years that I'd buy there in an instant, however, lack of studio balconies and suburban view were my biggest disappointments. That Walnut St view is the biggest Disney bubble killer.

I like the details of the public areas more than anticipated but I'm pleased I didn't wait to buy VDH. The lack of amenities and the room design don't do me any favours. The property isn't bad, just not for me.

My excitement has fizzled out a bit, between the pool and the princess and the frog rooms... it is really coming down to the point chart for me.

I had the opposite effect. I love the Grand Floridian but never been to Disneyland. VDH is just so different to me and I want to buy there and visit Disneyland every 3 years. I like the modernistic feel I guess. Or maybe I should just take some framed Disney art work and hang it up at my next Hyatt/Hilton/Marriot stay...

Nope not just you. I have repeatedly stated how IMO the rooms lack any sense of theme or decor. Yup, look just like a regular ‘ole hotel room ( yes I know it’s Disneyland Hotel). Wont be buying.

As some have previously stated, you may need some TP for your crap thread…LOL

I’m still super ready to buy but the point chart and price per point could be the dealbreaker. I guess resort themes aren’t a huge deal to me versus convenience as my preferred wdw resorts are BLT, BWV and BCV. I stayed at VGC last year and remember thinking the room to be super worn down and simple for what people are paying for cash. But being able to take a break from the park every couple of hours was amazing. I know they’ll refurbish the rooms soon at VGC and it’ll be wonderful again. I’ve been checking the resale for VGC regularly but I think I’ll still just buy VDH because majority of my points are resale and so most likely won’t be able to book there. I see VGC continuing to be difficult to book at 7 months and so I want a more consistent option for several short visits throughout the year. So I’m still super excited about VDH and hope they don’t kill it for me with an absurd point chart.

It's not just you, but not for the same reasons. We only visit Disneyland once every 3 years or so but we visit WDW at least 3 times per year, with almost everything booked 11mo in advance. I was chomping at the bit to buy a 50pt VDH contract since I've never stayed at VGC and want 11mo priority since booking at Disneyland is impossible without ownership.

What changed is I was able to very, very easily find a renter a few weeks ago who went out of their way to walk a reservation for a studio for me during probably the most in demand weekend for VGC in 2024 - Half Marathon weekend at Disneyland for $22pp. Since I don't have any problem getting $20-22pp for my Poly and VGF points, I no longer see any reason to own the California resorts so long as the rental markets are liquid.

I have not booked cash rooms before, if I decide next week to book via cash does that allow us to still get free parking? Are there also taxes and fees involved with that option?

I find it funny when people talk about a "Disney bubble" at Disneyland. There isn't one. That is one of the main reasons Walt started the Florida Project - so he could create a Disney bubble. The hotels across the street from Disneyland are closer to the parks than the Disneyland hotel is.

Respectfully disagree. The bubble is just much smaller and really only exists if you stay at GC or DLH as everything else removes you from said bubble. I'd argue that even DLH feels a little outside, but it also kind of creates it's own little bubble just outside the big bubble. But a stay at the Grand very much evokes WDW bubble vibes for me, and probably why I enjoy it so much.

Actually, I felt very outside the bubble last trip to DLH. The security gate is what did it. My entire party was asked to open our coffee cups in the evening on our walk over to prove there was no alcohol (there was none). That's some outside the bubble stuff that would never happen at the Grand security gates.
