VDH Opening

I find it funny when people talk about a "Disney bubble" at Disneyland. There isn't one. That is one of the main reasons Walt started the Florida Project - so he could create a Disney bubble. The hotels across the street from Disneyland are closer to the parks than the Disneyland hotel is.

I also respectfully disagree.

The bubble in Orlando to me means terrible transportation options and mediocre food. I love that at Disneyland I can walk wherever I want, on-site or offsite, including restaurants, Starbucks that have normal menus and prices, drug stores that sell cases of water for $5, and the parks themselves.

And yet it all still seems very bubble to me in Anaheim, because the dated chintz of Harbor Boulevard is just another themed land. It’s DisneylandLand.

I had the opposite effect. I love the Grand Floridian but never been to Disneyland. VDH is just so different to me and I want to buy there and visit Disneyland every 3 years. I like the modernistic feel I guess. Or maybe I should just take some framed Disney art work and hang it up at my next Hyatt/Hilton/Marriot stay...
Put it up at the new Westin. Did a staycation there last year and that place is great! Walk could be a bit shorter though...

In many ways VGC is the "ultimate" Disney bubble. You could probably hit multiple mobile order places inside of DCA and be back in your room in a matter of minutes. I know that getting a chili-cone-queso and a churro and getting back to my balcony to enjoy them warm is on a bucket list and I'll be doing that in a few days...

For another note, I was watching this YouTube update today -

Jump to 12:40 (ish) to see the VDH section of the video.

I noticed something I had not picked up on before -

What are these rooms out by the pool?

Isn’t Candy Cane Inn pretty close and reasonable?

I do think there is a Disney bubble although my interpretation is probably different from yours. I like staying in the Disney bubble mostly for safety reasons. I’ve gone to Disneyland solo and I don’t feel safe walking down Harbor Blvd at night. I take an Uber for that reason. But if I stay on Disneyland property, I feel safer walking through Downtown Disney to get to the Disneyland Hotel.

Yeah, everything's more spaced out at WDW, but I love the WDW bubble. I love that as you go from park to resort you don't have to go outside of property and everything is pretty and manicured.
I love the view of Seven Seas Lagoon as one is approaching MK, especially when going via monorail.
I love Disneyland's smaller bubble as well but it certainly doesn't feel as removed from the outside world.

After years of staying on Harbor, we had our first stay at the Grand Californian this year. I've never really cared one way or another about the "Disney bubble." However, I do think it exists when staying at the GC. The 'vibe' of our trip just seemed different than our previous Harbor hotel trips.

Totally agree! We only stayed offsite until recently when we stayed at the DLH, it was more magical! Everyone also seems to be forgetting the advantage of early entry! Lots can be accomplished in that 30 mins at Disneyland 🙌

Early entry used to also be tied to tickets. No more? It wasn't unlimited like onsite but was available.

I just don’t see the need for that at Disneyland. Yeah you can do a lot but the parks are open for 14-17 hours a day and the locals come late, especially on weekdays. You can get everything done pretty well without it.

They're trying to make it more like a bubble with Disneyland Forward, but you're right it's nothing like WDW and will never be at that scale.

I'd argue it was more of a bubble back in the day than today. The Disneyland Hotel was once a destination on its own from the marina/boating, shopping, to the precursor to World of Color fountain show, lots of entertainment and dining options on site. Now, it's a hotel without even a sit down restaurant.

I love the nostalgia of the hotel, theming, the pool area and Trader Sam's, but right now purchasing a stake in the Villas at DLR is more of an investment in the future and the hope that Disney gets it done.

It remains my third or fourth choice at best at DLR with Grand Cal and the offsite hotels being 1 and 2 respectfully.

Idk, when you have littles it sure is nice to knock out all of Fantasyland first thing and then have the option to head to Galaxy Edge line before the masses. Or even skip that and basically have Frontierland and Adventureland to yourself when the park officially opens!

I second this as my little one is up at 6am every day and that extra half hour is nice. One of our daily templates is to do fantasyland before 8, watch the flood of people come running through the castle at 8, then move along to an empty frontier/adventure/new Orleans, have lunch and be back at the pool before noon. This can still happen after 8 but depends on the day and Peter pan must definitely be sacrificed.

Additionally, it's usually unnecessary to get genie when you can make this happen. After 8 I'm prone to buying it.
