Anyone can make reservations at Vero Beach correct? You don't have to be a vacation member, do you?

Thanks!

Cash reservations are available for anyone at Vero Beach, it's listed in AAA. We owners love cash visitors, helps us pay for the resort. Many locals come by just to eat there.

Some locals also come by to swim, but we'd rather they didn't.

Yes, anyone can make cash reservations there. You don't have to be a DVC member.

We've stayed many times on cash ressies.

When are you thinking of going? There may even be a discount available-if you belong to Disney Club or something. We booked a room for my MIL using it.

DO LOCALS ACTUALLY COME TO THE RESORT TO SWIM? How do they get in to the pool area-I know it's relatively easy with people going in and out all the time-but how rude. What if something happened to one of these people and Disney had to pay a big insurance settlement or something, wouldn't that make dues go up.

I've never seen a thread on this topic but it kind of makes me mad. I could see it you were a DVC member and happened to live right in Vero Beach or something. Is this a big issue at VB, just curious?

Skybaby please give it a try but don't let the secret out OK.;)

Yes. Locals get into the pool.Half the time the gate is not closed properly or they just wait for someone to come by and open it up with their room key and open it up.Have caught a few in the act. I'm guess what you call semi local or a nomad.Spend quite a bit of time in the area and would never think of going to swim there if not staying on site.At busy times of the year, this can be a real problem.

As Madcoco said above they do(locals), maybe they will start using wrist bands in the future(like SAB).

Yes, the locals do abuse the pool at Vero but Disney does try to put a stop to it. Disney had to really finesse the area residents to get permission to build the resort...they feared an amusement park was going up in their exclusive area. So, they did their best to become part of the community and invited people to come tour the resort when it opened. Some saw the potential for bringing their grandchildren to the pool for the day.

Steps they have taken include fencing in the whole pool area with a gate that requires a room key. As noted, people still sneak in this way. They also require showing a room key to get towels and to order from the snack bar. I've seen lifeguards keep an eye out and ask people to leave if he/she sees them come in from the outside.

It's difficult to police since you don't want to make the real guests feel like they are going through security to use the pool. They've cut back the number of trespassers but maybe they'll eventually go to the wristband system, especially in the busy winter months.

It's funny what people will do. I heard of someone who was doing this type of thing (friend of a friend) who lived in a luxury condo near the resort and brought their grandchildren to the pool. These people would never think of crashing any other hotel pool....I guess the Disney name makes everyone feel like family.

Yes, cash guests are welcome.
One reason why we decided to buy points at VB was because two years in a row there was no availability with cash ressies. If you want to stay during a busy time, book early!

PS- If I caught the pool crashers, I hope I could keep my cool as well as you all did!

My sister, her DH, DD, and my parents stayed there on a cash ressie.

DBF and I were staying at Coronado Spring at the time and we drove down to Vero and spent the day with them.

I don't remember much security, although maybe I do recall them having to use a room key to get us all into the pool area if I think real hard.

Gotta love that slide!

:)
