We are heading to VB for Easter, 3/19 to 3/24/08 and were wondering if visiting the Kennedy Space Center might be a good option in case of bad weather. Has anyone does this? It looks like a 2hr drive up the coast.
Any other suggestions for day trips outside the resort? My kids will be 11, 9 & 8.
Thanks:goodvibes !

I've traveled many, many times from VB to KSC - it is more like an hour and 20 mins if traffic isn't too bad - a GREAT day trip for people of any age!
Enjoy!!

My mom and I did Kennedy the year we took a Disney Cruise. We both loved it! It wasn't very crowded, and there was a lot of cool stuff to see.

I teach 4th grade and highly encourage my families to do a stop at Kennedy if they ever have a chance on their Florida travels. A few families have done it and said it was well worth the visit.

We did the VB to KSC trip in July. KSC is great!! IIRC, it was about a 90 minute drive. The Apollo stop on the bus tour is fascinating (I could have spent all of my time there). The Shuttle Launch Experience will remind you of Mission: Space. My kids really enjoyed meeting an astronaut. I also liked the rocket garden. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and didn't see the IMAX movie.

You can easily spend a full day there. So be sure to plan plenty of time.

I don't remember what the current entrance fees are, but if I recall, it isn't exactly cheap. Definitely not something if you only have an hour or two.

Years ago there was a considerable amount that was free, and the tours were the separate costs. Now you have to pay to get on site at all.

$ 38 for an adult admission, which allow for 2 days into the visitors center complex ( $ 19 per day ) - also if a member in the party has an annual pass ( cost $ 50 ) they can purchase passes at a discount ( $ 4.50 off each ) for upto 6 guests.

Count us as those who have made the trek up the coast from VB to KSC. It's a really great experience for everyone. Extremely interesting, even for the kids (at least my kids). When we went it was pretty crowded, but it was the day before a launch and they were randomly giving out tickets to the launch as you paid for your admission. I don't know if this is routine, but I wonder if the reason there were so many people there is that they were hoping that they would score those tickets.

Another KSC visitor from VB. Plan on an extra 15 mins and take A1A much better drive (views wise) IMHO.

I think the ages of your childfren play an important role here. 8 and up I would think is appropriate. I took my 6 yo DS and he was extremely cbored after 2 hours.

I agree with this route. Much nicer drive. Also, you might consider checking out the MERRITT ISLAND NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE.

It is located on the KSC gounds.
